i started noticing this problem two days ago... glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem!
i'm trying to use regular gmail tasks (not google app tasks) on my iphone. (mail.google.com/tasks/iphone)
and i get exactly the same behavior as  kirk2734.
i'm on an iphone 4. on iOS 4.3.3.
