Is there a way to separate the notification/alerts volume from the incoming call volume in ICS (Android 4.x)?
If not, this is a major oversight that should be fixed. Many people like myself are on call 24/7. We MUST answer calls at night. It is necessary to be able to have the ringer volume up, but still have the notifications for things like emails, text messages and the other apps you may have silenced. Without this ability, it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to get good sleep because I have the ringer volume up when I go to bed, and then I get loud noise at every email, text message, instant message, facebook update, weather update.....
Yes, a workaround is to have the apps notifications set to silent. But not every app usses the OS notification default sound. I would have to set many applications individualy and I would have to do that every night, otherwise I would not hear notifications during the day.
This was not an issue in gingerbread. I can not imagine why google would combine these volumes. I am in the Army and all of my coworkers have this same concern. For now, I will recommend against any of my friends, family or coworkers buying an ICS phone. I will also be returning mine in January if I dont see indication that this will be fixed in the near future. I will not buy any more in the future if it is not.
