HTC Sensation - Speaking Changes GPS Status

Hi there

I'm a relative Android newbie - so my apologies if this topic has been covered somewhere else.

Yesterday I installed the Google Maps based "Navigation" application.  This application required me to install the PicoTTS engine (for text-to-speech) as a dependency - I performed the install by following the prompts.

Once I'd completed both installs, the phone began announcing - speaking - changes in the status of the GPS signal - e.g. I'd take the phone indoors and it'd say "no GPS Fix".  This is happening regardless of whether or not the Navigation app is running.

The phone is not in "driving mode" and is not speaking other events (such as incoming calls).

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.  Pertinent details of the handset / OS are:

Device:  HTC Sensation Z710a
Carrier: Telecom New Zealand
Country / Language: New Zealand - NZ / UK English
OS:  Android 2.3.4.  Kernel 2.6.35.13.

If you need any further info, just ask.

Cheers
Dion
