Currently I'm looking at embedding the url within a frame then within a thickbox. One link I provide is just the simple google map. However I provide another which shows the map with the get directions panel on the left, (with the destination of my choosing set). When it gets embedded it blows up and takes up all the space within the thickbox, not showing the side panel.
