I launched your 2 links http://www.aproom.com/cities_map.html and http://www.aproom.com/nodoctype.html in Chrome6 and in IE6 and found no difference.

 

Now you say "the older version of IE was more efficient". Could you be more specific about the IE versions? TIA,
