Sadly, I have had to abandon my plans for using Google Maps because it's quite simply unusable and most of what has been posted above, applies to me. Frankly, I really think that the team responsible for this Google product needs a serious shake-up - this problem has persisted for many, many months - apparently without any resolution. Sigh .... sniff ....
