I'd like to once again support this feature. I'm in a Skype group chat with some friends and we're sharing pictures all day. It's kinda stupid to have to open each link in the browser.
A possible solution could be borrowed from canv.as and plus.im - content, embedded in comments (not necessarily pictures) should have a small thumbnail preview and be expanded on click. Videos, GIFs and other animations should be paused by default and a small play/pause button could appear in one of the corners of the animation.

Currently, if you post a link into the a comment to a stream post, it will remain a hyperlink. I think it should expand the way it does in the normal stream posts. For example, imagine if you could post a picture in reply to a picture.
