Hi Panamaguy2. Google is offering you the option of having a mobile number as an option to recover your account in case you forget your password, the account gets compromised, or something like that. You could then go to the page for lost passwords, select that you would like a recovery code sent to that mobile number, and you would be back in business in a matter of minutes rather than having to go through the Account Recovery Flow.
