I will close my Gmail accounts for business and personal.
Why? If you find an e-mail client you like just set it up to work with your Gmail account using POP or IMAP. There's LOTS of people that never even see the web-interface because they only interact with Gmail through the client of their choice.
I will not be subjected to a change in which I do not like nor want.
Do you hold that philosophy for everything else too? Do you switch your OS/computer when the provider rolls out something new (like Microsoft does every couple years)? Do you move to a different state/country when the political majority forces a change you don't like or want?
I'm not suggesting personal preference isn't a motivator for change. But I really hate changing my e-mail address and with other options available I'd pick something that worked for me rather than switch providers.
