Re: deleted mail will not delete, it goes away, and then pops back up. I am deleting the same message over & over.

Where are you deleting mail?  In email client like Apple Mail or Thunderbird?

Gmail IMAP is unique. Delete only archives the email. You can drag and drop emails from Inbox to [Gmail]/Trash folder.

Or go to Gmail webmail Settings.
1. In Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab > IMAP settings for Auto-Expunge, set to "Do not automatically expunge messages"

2. On the same tab, When a message is marked as deleted, select ~Move message to trash~.

3. In Labels tab, hide the All Mail folder in IMAP).

Then you can do a delete and mail will go to Trash folder.
