Lrae must be in slumberland now, however based on my experience I would suggest that for images you use Picasaweb, Panoramio or Flickr. These offer at least 1 GB of free storage which in most of the cases should suffice.
For KMZ/KML files you can use one of many cloud based services, I use the public folder of Dropbox and the links remain unchanged even if I modify the KMZ/KML files.
Edit note: I forgot to mention that although Dropbox is good and I use it extensively, however one thing you should note that if you don't upload the KMZ/KML file to GEC and keep it in Dropbox then it will NOT get incorporated in GEC layer. So I use Dropbox for storing only those KMZ/KML files in Dropbox public folder which I use in blogs.
