Lalibela is a fantastic place in Ethiopia where a multitude of churches carved in the mountains exist since XIII century. When you put these stupid Pit-Stops in such places at least you could get some info about them. I know that for some americans this is perhaps "some old stones anyway" in Africa.
If anyone is interested to know, Lalibela consist in 11 medieval monolithic cave churches of 13th-century 'New Jerusalem' are situated in a mountainous region in the heart of Ethiopia near a traditional village with circular-shaped dwellings. Lalibela is a high place of Ethiopian Christianity, still today a place of pilmigrage and devotion.
UNESCO's International Council on Monuments and Sites has it on his World Heritage list .
