Yes, this is very important!!! - Not every slide gets viewed on a projector or printed!  There are some things that are much easier to do in a Presentation than in a Document, for example, draw a diagonal arrow - right there, no going to the drawing editor, no forced alignment with text, etc. Also, I think it's easier to make a pretty table
