Same problem here, and I can find discussions on this topic going back to January. Switching to Desktop mode locks you into an error loop on iPad. It's not even usable in the default mobile version. I can type about two sentences before all the text disappears and I receive the error message "This error has been reported to Google and we'll look into it as soon as possible. Please reload this page to continue". This is obviously a known issue, but I cannot seem to find it listed anywhere under "Known Issues". It's incredibly frustrating.
