@albertmactan and @nfagerlund both recommend using the atsutil command.
This doesn't necessarily address the problem and the man page says "Shutting down the server is NOT recommended and will likely lead to misrendered text or application crashes".
Based on this, I would say don't use the atsutil commands they suggest, but if you really want to, make sure you run
man atsutil
first and read the entire man page.
