I had this issue on a Mac first. I couldn't trouble shoot the problem because it's a work computer with Admin access locked down. So, I abandoned Chrome at work :(

It started TODAY on my PC at home. After reading some of the responses on this thread, I started looking at how my fonts are installed. I use font manager software and only load fonts based on projects.

It turned out that I had Arial Bold and Narrow active in the System, and the rest of the family active from a personal Font folder using my management software. The entire font was activated, but by two different sources.

I deactivated Arial from my personal folder and copied the Arial family into the System Fonts folder. The system automatically activates the fonts. I restarted Chrome.

This completely solved the problem.
