I was having the same exact issues as all the posters in this forum (using Mac OSX Snow Leopard). I was able to fix my font display issue by Opening Font Book, and 1) select all of the fonts that had "duplicate font issues" 2) Go to the top left hand corner and click on the "gear button" 3) in that drop down menu you will see an option to "resolve duplicate font..." I did that and all seems to be well so far.
