I have another interesting angle to it: Here using the proxy is more or less optional (for those who have admin rights). But if you use the proxy you need to enter user id and password as well.
The Chome Portable installer detects the proxy and starts using it and then does not give me a chance to enter the user id password.
What a lot of bollocks. I guess I have to download and install Chome portable from a different computer. I hope that once it is installed it will be all ok.
But that might be a work around for everybody: Install Chome Portable on a USB stick on a computer with unrestricted internet.
