I also had trouble viewing the pdf files in Google Chrome with "error in reading the page (107)" with white pages and "insufficient data to display the image" with distorted images. The problems were born after the last update of Adobe Reader in July 2010, I guess.
I managed to solve these problems by repairing Adobe Reader in Windows Control Panel.

This is the information on my PC:
OS - Windows XP Home Edition SP3
Google Chrome version - 5.0.375.125
Adobe Reader version - 9.3.3. italian

Using Firefox I had no problems viewing PDF files.
