Enabling Java in Chrome web browser

I installed an updated version of Java in order to print some coupons, and I have gone around and around with this.  Everything time it ends up with "Java/JRE version" then "Java Not Detected" then "Supported Version 6.0".  Below that there is a message saying the Java is currently disabled on my computer, and please enable it.  Then it says to "click here" for instructions on how to enable Java in my web browser.  The problem is two fold:  (1)There are no instructions for Chrome and I can't figure it out on my own, and (2)the instructions they give for Internet Explorer show options that do not appear on "Tools" --> "Internet Options" on my computer: the "Java" option is totally missing below the "International" options. I have Internet Explorer (64bit) on an HP desk top that is less than a year old, so I don't think the problem is an out of date computer.  Can anyone tell me how to go about enabling Java???
