16. "SSL Security Error: Invalid Server Certificate"
Users are reporting a new bug that prevents Chrome from logging into services requiring SSL. The issue is being discussed in the Chrome forum and the bug report for the issue has been filed. You can follow along on the progress by clicking the star next to the issue number.
Update: We just released an update to Chrome Stable, that includes the fix for this issue. If you are currently on 18.0.1025.151, please click on Wrench > About Google Chrome. Once the update ready, click the Relaunch button. The new version of Chrome Stable is 18.0.1025.152. If you are still experiencing this issue after updating to 18.0.1025.152 please let us know in this thread.
Note that the fix for this issue only applies to Windows 7 (with no service packs). For those of you who continue to see this issue on Windows XP (or other Windows OS), you are likely running into a different issue that is currently being investigated.
Update 2: A number of issues relating to different operating systems are still being addressed in the Chrome forum. Users who are still seeing this issue on XP are likely running into a different issue. Please verify that the error you are seeing is " The site's security certificate is signed using a weak signature algorithm!" and if so, follow these steps to get more information about the certificate.
Depending on the information that is on the certificate, they may be running into two distinct issues that we are currently investigating; (1) man-in-the-middle proxy OR (2) malware related.
Update 3: For the users who are on Windows XP, a solution that users have found to resolve the problem is updating the Windows root certificate. After you have updated, check if the issue still occurs.
We are also tracking this issue that is specific to Windows XP on this public issue tracker. You can follow the progress of the issue by clicking the star next to the issue number.
Update 4: This issue has now been marked as fixed, as the common root issue has been resolved.
However, if you still experience this issue or one similar in nature and are seeing this issue on a non-Windows XP machine, please let us know about the following:
- Type "chrome:version" in the address bar and let us know what you see. Screenshot is fine.
- Click on the crossed out padlock (on facebook.com, or the site you are seeing this) and take a screenshot of the information there.
Once you have all the information above, please post it on our public issue tracker so that we can investigate further! |
