rosschn stated that we need Chrome to be more customizable. That won't slow it down. S/he wasn't suggesting that all the extensions be incorporated into the browser itself. It was simply a statement of dissatisfaction at Google's seemingly backwards priorities (focusing more on an extensibility infrastructure for thousands of garbage addons, rather than focusing on badly needed core functionality) and Google's uncaring attitude about the wishes of its userbase.
Look at these forums. There are a lot of very good ideas and a lot of very legitimate complaints. Yet the only time you see anyone from Google reply, it's merely to state that they will in fact not oblige anyone's concerns because it would go against their master plan of Chrome being as unconfigurable and inflexible as possible.
There are currently several open-source forks based on Chromium, but unfortunately the largest and most well maintained fork, is primarily concerned with integrating social networking sites into the chrome of the browser itself, and not so much with basic improvements. |
