I've uninstalled and installed the google video chat browser plugin many times, but I still have the problem where gmail is not recognizing the plugin at all

I get: Make voice and video calls to friends and family right from Gmail. It's free and installs in seconds.

I've tried many suggested fixes already- going to the appdata folder and running the plugin, deleting the port file, installing the plugin offline, as well as installing the 2008 msft redistributable C++ files (should not be a problem there because I have visual studios installed)

I've noticed that when I go to Firefox -> Options -> Add-ons manager -> plugins; google talk plugin is not listed, despite me installing the plugin many times.
