Sorry for our lack of responsiveness. Unfortunately, there's no news to report on this front.

I've checked with our Chat team today regarding the length of time since the last update. We are still waiting for AOL to make some relevant changes that will allow Apps users to communicate with AIM contacts.

Given the outstanding request to AOL, I don't anticipate a reversion to the previous functionality. If this is a business-critical function for you and you're a Google Apps for Business user, I recommend opening a support case via your admin control panel, and our Chat team will register your interest in setting their priorities for the product.
