Hmmmm....I wonder if Steve Jobs had been at the helm of Google if this would happened? (Actually, probably yes, but that's another diatribe for another time.)
I've seen posted comments around indicating that Apps isn't really much of a revenue stream for Google, and the personal domain/single user apps users that make up the bulk of those frustrated by lack of access to Google + are probably a tiny fraction of apps users anyway, so why should Google give a frack about us? Oh, wait, maybe because we tend to be the early adopters and others who might, through good word of mouth, help insure the success of Google + in the face of Facebook's attempts to catch up. What genius at Google didn't realize this?
It is precisely because this group does include so many early adopters that the suggestion of using an alternate gmail account temporarily, even though it is likely to not be transferable, is silly on its face. As early adopters, we're likely to really utilize what Google + makes possible, and will heavily invest in its use - which most of won't do because we're pretty sure our invested effort will be wasted when apps users do get Google + access and we can't migrate all we've created. We're not the types who just test the tepid waters - we jump in with our whole selves. The folks at Google should be savvy enough to know this about us. |
