|disable google related from showing on my website||InIdaho||8/5/11 4:22 PM|
I have read the FAQs and checked for similar issues: YES
My site's URL (web address) is: inidaho.com
Description (including timeline of any changes made):
A google related bar pops up at the bottom of sites now and is part of the google 7.1 toolbar. I would like to have this feature disallowed when people are on my site. If I advertise directly to a customer I don't think all of my competitors should auto show up at the bottom of my webpage. Also covers up content. Any help on how to disable site wide or even the name of the div would be great. Thanks.

I have visited your site 3 different browsers and I didn't seen any pop up ads.
Google 7.1 toolbar is a browser extention which may be installed in your browser and it displays the related Ads to the site. Better you can check it out through some other browser or PC.

Google Related pops up our competitor's website and we want to stop this. Why would we spend time, money and effort to bring people to a specific page on our site only to have Google lead them away to our competitor. How do I stop Google Related from popping up on my customers' browsers?

curnan raised a point:
why should we pay adwords to bring people to our websites, only to find Google lead them away with "google Related" to competitors websites.
This is definitive not right, and could be seen as a hijack attempt by Google. At least in webmaster-tools there need to be an opt-out option.

This is outrageous. I spent all this time designing my site so they could run advertisements on top of my website without my permission? And plus, they're steering potential competitors AWAY from my website?
I hope they get sued. This is criminal and unfair. It's not like they don't have enough money already, but it goes to show that they are no different than any other greedy monopoly. How this went live, I don't know...
I tried implementing the code but I think they disabled it. Everyone, start +1ing this post on the left!

I took the time to write about my concerns regarding Google Related on my blog. Please read it and comment. If you agree with me, please "+1", "like", or link the article so that it gets the attention this issue deserves before their program spirals out of control:

To update everyone, Google got keen to the CSS hide method that people put out there. They have now removed the class name from the iframe, so that it cannot be accessed. And all of the inline CSS has the !important; attribute to override anything. I don't know if there is another method now...they've officially hijacked all of our pages. We've just taken a HUGE step back in the wrong direction in the development of the Web. Google has cross a HUGE line here! I cannot believe they are not listening to the huge uproar from the development community on this.

You might want to try installing the Google Toolbar in Internet Explorer, empty the browser cache and see what happens.

Try this: http://www.seoegghead.com/blog/google/how-to-disable-google-related-with-jquery-p859.html
I suspect Google could break it again, but this works. I don't know how long this feature will last. It's upsetting a lot of people.

If you have a flash site, it will not show over the page. Look at vynl-nyc.com and you will see what we mean.
