|Page Rank dropped after change from http to https to zero||Baldur||4/26/12 6:14 AM|
I have read the FAQs and checked for similar issues:
My site's URL (web address) is:
Our pagerank dropped to zero as we started using https. All of our http pages were redirected (301 permanent) to https. I was looking into this problem for some time, but i was unable to find reason for the drop. Also i found article which said that reason for drop could be the redirect.

Yes, the reason for the loss of PR is indeed the redirect. I'd be quite confident PR will come back after some time. As the https-version likely doesn't receive any direct links so far, it's PR has to be zero. Google had to find and check every single redirect first, transfer PR to the new version and update the PR database accordingly. I wasn't surprised if this took several months to be completed and again some time before it shows up on the toolbar.
Rankings themselves should react far quicker than that.

Thanks -luzie- for the insights.
A similar drop in PR happened to my site after switching the site to HTTPS (or SSL). I checked Baldur's site's PR. It came up again (to 4). So, I guess I have to wait for a few months (to several months) to see an update on my site's PR.
Thanks again for your comment!

We have the same problem you had. How did you end up getting your PR back?

After about 3 months it got up again... we haven't changed a thing... and i still don't know what the issue was because it lasted for really long time... 3+ months.
It's wise to leave part of your page http only. It won't hurt your Page Rank and it also helps your visitors as they don't have to wait so long for connection hanshakes.

Read the explanation given by my first post. Try to understand it. What you call the "issue" is the normal latency of PR calculation necessarily caused by the crawling, indexing and updating process. Things need time to catch up with changes you make. Having to monitor billions of sites and webpages, the search engine is not and as of yet can't be a real-time system.
