| Switching between Search and News results | Erik A.S. | 11/18/11 10:47 AM | Hi everyone, First off, we want to thank you for your feedback regarding this particular change in functionality, where clicking the News tab after running a query in Search takes you to a clean News page. As always, we welcome and take user comment |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Jovica | 11/20/11 9:11 AM | Hey Erik.. just one question I'm from Serbia and until two days ago I searched normaly, with English news and articles. Now, (I want something about John McEnroe) its all o.k for Any time, Past hour all the way 'til Past month (news and articles in |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Grano Salis | 11/20/11 9:57 AM | Ever since the debacle surrounding the discontinuation of news archive search, I have been astounded by the way Google treats the user interface like some kind of amateur beta site. I understand about growing pains, but grow up already! |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | moshoz | 11/21/11 3:05 PM | I certainly hope the switching process goes back to the way it used to be. This way is annoying and I really don't like it. I appreciate that you guys have noticed that it might be an issue and hopefully feedback can lead you towards discontinuing t |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | ms.andrea.carter | 11/24/11 7:45 PM | Google, Please change it back to the way it was. I think it is disruptive in a bad way because it interrupts the sequence of movements we are now used to performing when searching. Re-typing the search over again requires going back to look see how |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Alaska Wolf | 11/25/11 3:36 AM | Hey Erik, thanks for the answer. But who in the world thought this would in ANY way be of benefit to the users? It SUCKS. Wolf |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Tornoofo17 | 11/28/11 5:27 PM | This is silly. It works for image results, but then to switch over to news of the same subject on the left side of the window is a wasted motion and feels unnatural. We should benefit from the little changes and not get frustrated by them. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | mikemongo | 11/28/11 9:15 PM | ARGHHH. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | eric.rannaud | 11/29/11 12:37 PM | Change it back, it's a huge pain to have to retype it. It's one of the great things of the old behavior: you do a regular search, nothing shows up and you think "Hmm, maybe it's in the news, at it's a recent thing", click on the News tab, and voila!. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | onthehunt | 12/2/11 11:08 AM | I absolutely hate that Google removed the ability to search the web again via the news webpage. So many people complained about it when Google did that earlier this year, the web button was added back to the news page. Why the hell would Google rem |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | daynamcmullen | 12/3/11 5:27 PM | Where did the news archives go? I used to find old newspapers that had obituaries that are very helpful to genealogy research. Now it's gone. I HATE this new set up. PLEASE go back to the way it was or tell us where to find the old newspapers!!! Than |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | daynamcmullen | 12/3/11 5:28 PM | I don't know what Google was thinking. The interface does not even let you change the source at the bottom of the search box. It's crazy! |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Grano Salis | 12/6/11 3:11 PM | This problem has been raised in many threads by many people, and Google employee Eric has answered many, many times that the users clicked the wrong link: they tried to use the link labeled "News" when they should have used the one labeled "News". |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | ICONiQ | 12/10/11 12:58 PM | Erik, This is not a small change. This is a major source of irritation for many users. There is no reason nor rational explanation to have two "News" links that do two separate things, no matter what "larger improvements" may be further down the line |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | MichielW | 12/12/11 1:55 AM | Amazingly irritating. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | EricHei | 12/12/11 4:49 PM | About a week ago, the site rolled out some changes, but one of the side effects has been that it won't let me sign in, stay signed in, or present my customizations. Every once in a while, it finally works and I get my sections back, so I know it's no |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Floydian | 12/13/11 6:22 PM | The term "improvement" is subjective, especially from big companies like Google |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | phonecall4aphonecall | 12/15/11 11:46 AM | I suggest everyone give BING a try. You can search items and switch to the news tab located on top without having your search removed. Not sure why Google only allows the left news tab to keep your search results while the top news tab removes it. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Qal | 12/15/11 2:55 PM | Please get to fixing this shit. I'm not going to go into a long explanation about why this is stupid, Google doesn't hire fucktards and you know it's stupid and you know why it's stupid. You said that Google was 'making smaller changes like this one |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Flavia Martins | 12/16/11 9:11 AM | Hi, Erik and people from the group Researchers of a younger generation were about to enlist google news as a powerful research tool, I think. People like me were probably starting to comment on the possibilities google offered (yes, past tense). In |

| Re: Switching between Search and News results | gizmo192 | 12/26/11 11:47 PM | Not happy as well. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | DAN.1234 | 1/6/12 4:09 AM | Just found this this week, all for changes but can't see any benefit here, just irritating. At least there is a work round but hope it changes back soon. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | goomhe | 1/8/12 2:30 PM | Please change it back -- so that all the tabs work the same. Using the link on the left side is a nuisance, and is non-intuitive. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | ICONiQ | 2/12/12 12:20 PM | Yeah Erik… About those changes. I just saw them (because they were forced on me), and I'll be brutally honest: I hate them. Things that used to take one click now take 2-3. Searches that were easier are now harder. Conventional advanced search operat |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | manudavi27 | 2/14/12 6:35 PM | I agree 100% with onthehunt. What really makes me angry is that this is the the third time they have removed it. I remember an apology by Eric or another one of the Google heads on a past forum regarding this subject saying how sorry they were that t |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Tom-USA | 2/15/12 1:04 AM | This is one big annoyance for me. Part of search is being able to look through different sources. If I'm looking up something say, "Android alertdialog theme example." I'll actual use image search to find an image of a themed alertdialog in order to |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | ICONiQ | 2/17/12 8:01 AM | The "freshness" update absolutely sucks. I use Google for research. That means I look things up that happened in the past. You know, "the past?" As in "things that occurred more than a month ago???" Also, the skewed results favoring Google+ pages is |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | rootoo24 | 2/25/12 9:20 AM | There appears to be no advantage to getting rid of the old method, and i imagine it would take two seconds to fix. Please do so |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Floydian | 3/12/12 8:21 AM | The thing about small progressive changes is that it really brings out the theory of evolution. In this case, survival of the fittest. I'm not sure what internet user group you are changing your site to appease, but unless it is 90 year old non-Engli |

| Re: Switching between Search and News results | Conal Darcy | 12/14/12 12:10 PM | Well, now it's over a year later and no monumental change has occurred. And this annoying change is still around. Please tell your higher-ups to change it back. It's pointless and infuriating otherwise. |
| Re: Switching between Search and News results | sidartha gracias | 1/25/13 12:15 PM | Amazing work Google, its been been close to 15 months since this was raised and you still have the same retarded behavior.Well keep in up, A company that essentially relies on its entire revenue from search based advertising feels like its users don' |
