|Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||arnoota||7/17/09 9:13 AM|
I have Google Talk installed on my Blackberry, which I love because no matter what I'm doing with the device, it alerts me the second anyone starts chatting with me (similar to the desktop). When will we get the same for iPhone? Running Google Talk through Safari is no substitute when my overall objective is to be online and accessible to my chat contacts 100% of the time (not just when I'm staring at the Google Talk list on Safari).

there is an application called beejive IM which has google talk and also has the ability for push notifications. It runs at $9.99 but I think it is well worth the money because I have all my messaging clients on there, allowing me to be on 24/7 and receive notifications whenever someone sends me an IM.
I hope this helps

google team has to develop something to cope up with this major limitation in the iphone. being sucha a giant in the web it has to be overcome when there is no technical shortcome in the resourse sector .... please do let us know if there is a major outbreak that we could expect for the ultimate aim.....
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||iPhonejunkie||7/31/09 9:13 PM|
Been using IMplus for about 3 weeks $9.99. Again, it combines ALL of my FB, Myspace, Twitter, GTalk, etc. HATE buying apps, but Google and Apple will never play nice together it seems =(
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||lugon||8/17/09 12:20 AM|
There is also an app called eBuddy in the AppStore which is free and does MSN Messenger, GTalk, FB, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM and ICQ. This app also does Push notifications.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||MadPookie||8/29/09 2:12 PM|
IM+, Beejive, and eBuddy are all great Apps, but I definitely want something directly from google. I hate running my username/password through third party.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||amarimendez||2/8/10 12:39 PM|
I don't understand why we have to pay 9.99 for an app when ALL the other smart phones have free access to apps that give 100% connection to any of these major chats. Iphone is one of the most popular phones out there...why hasn't google made their own chat app for the Iphone...FREE!!
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||yz80477||3/12/10 9:51 PM|
it's not google whos charging for it it's apple they suck they charge google for it then google has to charge us when apple suld just not charge them because Google kicks A** and they know it so there trying to slow them down by doing this BTW if you get a google phone it fixes all of this (why would i bee looking for a ipone app if i have a google phone?) my firend has one and she has limited texts but unlimited internet so i figgerd with my google phone and her iphone it would work great because then she can save money on texting (because at&t charges when you text someone not on there network) if you want to fix this problem switch to sprint they charge $15 a month for unlimited texting on any net work and this means you can take you phone any where and text with it, i took mine to Canada and texted the hole time and wasn't charged any extra for texting (make sure you turn off your automatic email cheker unless you have unlimited internet too)

Please visit m.google.com and get Gmail app. No, it doesn't have push but it stays only for as long you want. Its FROM Google, so works for me.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||mvndaai||5/27/10 4:57 PM|
I have used tons, but the best on out there is Meebo, it is free and stays logged in forever with push notifications. I have also used eBuddy,Palringo and Nimbuzz, which all work, but they have their own differences from adds, to only being logged in for a certain time. Meebo is definately the best.

Google should definetly make a Gtalk app for the iPhone, just like they did for the BlackBerry. ASAP!

iOS 4 is out....
Anything on a gtalk app?
I can settle for the Google Mobile App handling everything else (reader, docs, etc), but gTalk needs a native
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||diftil||8/1/10 9:42 PM|
Crosstalk from Portable Knowledge was just put out last week, and as far as I know is the only iOS4 background Google Talk client. It works in the background on the iPhone 4, and also is native on the iPad (so when iOS4 comes out on the iPad it'll work there too.) It supports Google Talk, as well as Facebook chat and generic XMPP (Jabber).
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||jrhay||8/5/10 2:36 PM|
+1 for Crosstalk. Does background just fine on iOS4/iPhone4
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||diftil||8/5/10 3:29 PM|
The nice thing about an iOS 4 background app that doesn't use push is that your account info does not go through a third party server. That's why I like Crosstalk.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Pscytzo||9/17/10 12:35 PM|
wow, a lot of people are blaming google for not programming this app. I ask what someone else did, what about Apple?
I'm sad/disppointed that they never developed or released an iChat app for the iPhone... I'm betting its that naughty naughty bed they're in with AT&T... but this would solve MANY of these complaints.
I honestly forsee myself moving over to a Droid when my contract is up.... i love OS X, but hat the iLife & embrace "Google Life" a lot more... :-)
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Moses||9/21/10 10:36 PM|
still no google talk for iphone after so many years.....
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||bramel||10/21/10 12:38 AM|
Bring it on,gtalk for blackberry works perfectly, we just want the same for the iPhone.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||mruddy||11/21/10 2:16 PM|
Now that the iPhone has a front facing camera, a fully fledged google talk app is needed with text, voice and video chat soon. Google is falling behind Yahoo! chat and others. Google used to be the forerunner for new produces but it's falling behind. Just because Andriod is around, shouldn't mean you should give up on other platforms. Google needsa Gmail/Google-talk app soon or like me, a lot of people will start moving on...
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||bickb8||11/23/10 9:57 AM|
When will there be a Google Talk App for iPhone???
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Brady R||11/30/10 9:31 AM|
Just went to give Crosstalk a try but saw this....
"What's New in Version 1.3
-Background notification of incoming chat messages has been removed (however, quick app switching is still supported - you can leave the app briefly during a chat session and come back to see any messages sent to you)"
Such terrible Google Talk support on the iPhone.... This is the main reason why I miss my Android device (good reason for Google not to support it on the iPhone I guess...)
I'd be completely happy with just using the web app of gchat if there was some way to receive push notifications from it.
Meebo is still the best alternative.

Google is so innocent and brings innovative ideas for us people. Since i am running an online business so i have purchased one more iPhone and using Live2suppport.com 's live chat iPhone App.

I suppose that they want us to stick on the web .. or on Android.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Ashenshugar||1/7/11 12:37 AM|
Hey my partner works for Google and it's not their fault for the lack of / delay in getting apps pushed out for the iPhone.
Apple are actually the road block as they don't like Google and I know for a fact it was hard for Google to get a Google Latitude app available which thankfully it is now. I've downloaded Google Latitude on my iPhone and LOVE it!!! One of the best apps in my opinion.

|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||lordfett213||1/24/11 7:41 PM|
I made a quick list of the apps I have found and are listed in this thread. I currently am using IM+ free. It crashes lots, is slow and ends push notification erratically even though I have it set for 7 hours. Sometimes it will log me out minutes after logging into chat, sometimes I'll be fine for hours and then send an IM and get a notice my session expired.
beejive $9.99 no free version
IM+ $9.99 (crashes lots, constantly ending push) free version available
eBuddy $4.99 required to use an eBuddy login free version available
Crosstalk $1.99 no push no free version
meebo free required to use a meebo login
I am leery to use ebuddy and meebo because of their requirements to use their accounts. Crosstalk's lack of background/push is a killer for me, I can use the google mobile app's talk button for that and for free.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||lordfett213||1/25/11 7:13 AM|
fring free required to sign in through a fring account.
AIM $2.99 free version available, required to sign in through AOL, I already use AIM through my gMail, so this is going the other way. So far I am happy with this one, I have only been using it a day however.

Hey folks. What about GoTalk?
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||trickycoolj||2/8/11 1:07 PM|
+1 for a native GTalk app from Google. I'd be fine with only chat/push/always on capability so long as it comes directly from Google. I see that there are more full fledged native apps coming through lately (Voice, Latitude, Translate, Earth, Places, Books, Authenticator, Shopper...) Talk/Chat seems like a logical app to make. iOS is clunky in terms of multitasking but I can't imagine the hivemind at Google couldn't figure it out. That safari webapp is painful. While I'm thinking of it, a native Reader app would be fabulous too!
...Actually maybe I just need an Android phone.
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Startracker01||2/12/11 1:17 AM|
Martin NZ above mentioned TALKTONE, I tried it out and I guess it's the best. It supports background multitasking, it also connects to google directly. I'm using it with my google apps account.
Try it out guys, for a free app, it's amazing I would say!
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Martin NZ||2/12/11 1:24 AM|
I'm liking Talkatone a lot - I agree with people who say they'd prefer a Google app due to sign in reservations and all that - but once I got it installed and working, it does everything I'd expect a Google in-house app to do. Just the interface is a little 'clunky' And I've found that the voice quality is great.

USE E-BUDDY! They have a free version and it works SO great!!

There is an official MSN Messenger App. Google needs to make a GTalk app, or so they want people just to convert to Android? ;)
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||GoodOmens||3/20/11 12:45 PM|
Beejive just released a free gChat only version!
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Unallocated||3/31/11 9:32 AM|
Google has launched a webapp that allows you to use Google talk from your iPhone/iPod Touch brownsers. Go to www.google.com/talk on your iPhone or iPod touch and you will see the newly launched iPhone version of the Google Talk webapp. It's not quite a freestanding app like we all want, but it does work well.

Has anyone tried the Go Talk app for iPhone?
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||schmidtilicious||5/16/11 8:44 PM|
I've been trying to find an app that is similar to the gchat app on ANDROID in that when a message is received for example, on the computer, and you want to switch to the phone to chat - it will download the previous chat you had open so that you can resume right where you left off. I am currently using Beejive GT right now - and so far this has been the best app in my opinion (free) because it allows me to save my chats through the google database just like any other chat.
If anyone has any ideas or app names that do the feature + normal backing up procedures, that would be very much appreciated, otherwise, COMMON GOOGLE! WE NEED YOU!
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Dannybinaz||5/24/11 6:06 PM|
I used Google Talk on my blackberry devices (several different models) and never had any issues, it worked great and was always on...but since I left berry (because they were lagging with putting out new devices that didnt resemble their current line of devices,) I got an iphone4 and found out after the fact that Google Talk (native app with push notifications) was not available for the iphone4, it was kind of a let down. Ya, Google Talk is available via the browser, and other apps like ebuddy, beejive, etc...but the experience is not the same...If i want Air Jordans, I dont want the Carmelo Anthony or Chris Paul Jays with the jumpman aka Jordan logo on them, I want the real deal Air Jordan 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc...catch my drift??? Google and Apple/Iphone should play nice in the sandbox and just give the iphone consumer what it wants....a native Google Talk app with push notifications....how hard is it? If Yahoo and MSN have done it....I'm pretty sure Google can do it with ease.
GIVE IPHONE USERS A NATIVE GOOGLE TALK APP.......please :-)
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||DarkShadoe||5/25/11 12:44 PM|
BeejiveIM GT is the best, by far. It has so many options that other chats for gtalk are missing (like sorting by status and groups). This app is amazing... and Free! What's not to love!?!?
|Re: Google Chat / Talk on iPhone: Push?||Moses||5/25/11 6:10 PM|
I do not want give my Google account password to BeejiveIM or IM+ or any other other app. That's why we don't love it!

Hey all, is there a way that we can write something to both apple and google about our concerns and bring them to one forum so that they are answerable to us. Iphone is launched way back and there are no signs of gtalk app :(
WE ALL NEED A GTALK APP FOR IPHONE...Request to both APPLE and GOOGLE!!! Thanks!

i used fring .... i've been using fring it's been more then 3 years , 1st on my nokia 5800 and now on my iphone 4, it's very good and practical and it also supports voice calling .. and gtalk runs smoothly on it with push notifications
