|Google Goggles on iPod Touch 4g||gord1.ross||10/5/10 1:30 PM|
I was wondering if google goggles would end up working in the iPod Touch 4g as well as the iPhone. both have cameras, so I don't see why not.
Device: iPod Touch 4g
Country / Language: Canada/English
OS / Browser / build number (if applicable): iOS 4.1

I just tried that actually and it tells me that it isn't supported. I don't see why not as the Touch 4g has a all the necessary components.
btw i go to google moblie app > settings > goggles> your device is not supported is what i see.

On another thread someones said "since it requires an auto-focusing camera it is supported only on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 running iOS 4 or above". I think the Touch has a fixed focus camera so isn't supported.
It's a shame, and is down to Apple skimping on the camera. The photos I get from my Touch's camera really are poor.

Shame on you Google, Goggles should support iPod Touch 4g! I'm disappointed :(

Agreed! Google, fix this! I spent money on an iPod Touch 4 and not an iPhone 4 because I am using an Android phone! And yes, I have Goggles on my phone... but I would really like to have it on my newer, better, faster iPod Touch! I really don't give a crap about autofocus, even if the pictures are crummy, at least allow me to try.

God think about it you guys..it's not googles fault that ipod touch 4th gen isn't supported. The iPod Touches camera is WAY weaker than than the 3gs and iphone 4. It's lacking the auto focus that is needed. Why would a company have to implement non autofocused camera compatibility when they dont do that for other phones that aren't iphones/ipods.
Apple put a low quality camera in the ipod..and thats not a super bad thing they did..putting a 5-7 mega pixel camera would have raised the cost of the ipod by nearly $100

Download Noogle Noggles, it's free, has an easier UI and works great on the ipod touch.

Try Noogle Noogles It uses the Google Googles Software to Search!

I opened up noogle noggles and it worked perfectly! translated my text, identified my books, etc. The itouch 4g camera isnt actually so bad. However, when I opened the app, it said that google goggles was going to update soon, and that the google goggles version used for noogle noggles would not work anymore. So, google, explain this. If noogle noggles works so well on an itouch's camera, why not add the app to the itouch anyways? At least let us try to use it, if it doesn't function as well as an iphone, well then we know the reason why (no autofocus). But the fact that it works, yet you still continue to restrict us, is really annoying...

I know the iPod Touch 4g's camera doesn't auto-focus, but it is still not so bad that it doesn't recognize anything. Noogle Noggles which is in the AppStore works on the iPod Touch 4g. It picks up about 85 - 90% of what I take a picture of. It is using your service. On the results page it says "Support for this version of Google Goggles will be discontinued soon." Don't tell me that you won't support it because it won't pick up landmarks as great as the iPhone 4. There is a sudoku solver in the store that can do a live picture and solve it. Google Goggle would be great on it. Just because the camera is not as good as the iPhone 4's doesn't mean that it has to be left out of the reindeer games. Please add support for the fourth generation iPod Touch.

Noggle Noggles is a much simpler version of the Google Goggles. I would really much more like to have the GOGGLES app, than the NOGGLES, because it gives you much more options. It really should be available for the iPod Touch 4G. The camera is not the best and does not have autofocus, but that is not always very necessary.

I've now installed Noggles on my iPod Touch 4G and I would really like to have ALL features in the Google App even if it doesn't work with every shot, it works at least with the most. And on my opinion, that's enough.
