I too have noticed the difference in the screen colors and look. I am not a fan. Honestly, I think it is not too drastic but enough to annoy me. On Auto Brightness everything seems more washed out, yellow, and dare I say pixelated. Maybe it is just my eyes playing tricks on me but my Voice Search button and Red arrows for missed calls look horrible and pixelated (something I never had a problem with).
|Re: I just updated Nexus S to Android 2.3.3 and, now I the colors looks muted and washed out. Ry Guy, please let me know ?||gunderson||2/24/11 4:13 PM|
Had same thing happen to me, screen colors have become washed out, and white areas have become off-white (yellowish/tan) with 2.3.3 update.
Samsung Nexus S
|Re: I just updated Nexus S to Android 2.3.3 and, now I the colors looks muted and washed out. Ry Guy, please let me know ?||glon||2/24/11 4:20 PM|
Same thing here. After updating to 2.3.3 and rebooting.
...phone isnt rooted or customized. Only has a few apps...
|leafs911||2/24/11 4:43 PM|
same problems! :(
running on 2.3.3 nexus s
|Anthony44||2/24/11 4:43 PM|
Do you guys really expect an answer. I wish you luck
|Anthony44||2/24/11 4:44 PM|
|Phariel||2/24/11 4:47 PM|
Anyone have tried the Galaxy Stock wallpaper?, its buggy too with this configuration of colors.
|captainmorgan105||2/24/11 4:47 PM|
I am noticing the same thing. Colors appear washed out or yellowish after the 2.3.3 update.
|MathGuy||2/24/11 4:55 PM|
I agree. The whites are very yellow now. Further, the auto-brightness level is to low to be useful for my old eyes.
|BiGMERF||2/24/11 5:48 PM|
i updated also.. the yellow tinit is horrible and i am still having data issues. WTF?
|Anthony44||2/24/11 5:58 PM|
Omg data issues still not fixed from bad to worse. Google what's up perhaps its recall time
|olypdd||2/24/11 5:58 PM|
I don't see this issue on my Nexus One. Interesting.
|Anthony44||2/24/11 6:00 PM|
Ill have to wait for ota but so far seems like a flop based on reports any one else with data issues still or better results
|MasterTM||2/24/11 6:00 PM|
Colors are horrible on the 2.3.3 update (Nexus S)
|clietz||2/24/11 6:04 PM|
Colors do seem a bit washed out now. I upgraded a Nexus One and Nexus S to 2.3.3 and compared the same wallpapers side by side - the S definitely is less vibrant (no pun intended).
|tnicolaou||2/24/11 6:19 PM|
Same here. Colors are really washed out after updating to 2.3.3. Whites look yellow and grays look horrible. Please fix this soon.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 6:21 PM|
Nexus One is not a super amoled display, thats why you can't tell.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 6:23 PM|
"Ill have to wait for ota but so far seems like a flop based on reports any one else with data issues still or better results"
yes I am, only after 2.3.3 update.
|jonathan3579||2/24/11 6:32 PM|
For me, the icons are larger thus looking more pixelated as well as off screen colors. On the bright side, no data or reboot issues. Yippee?
|marcscalper||2/24/11 6:48 PM|
same here~ after updating my nexus s to 2.3.3, the wallpaper's color looks much different
|_Hurricane_||2/24/11 6:50 PM|
Did you guys get the ota? or manually update it? just askin
|Anthony44||2/24/11 7:01 PM|
Ya know this update they said will take weeks. We may get a put back on the shelf before its rolled out because so far looks like major let down. I mean didn't they realize the colors were washed out and if so why
|jasondclinton||2/24/11 7:11 PM|
Update to 2.3.3 went perfectly for me... not having any of the issues you guys are reporting. On the contrary, the colors on the screen now look accurate whereas before they was a noticeable blue/purple tint. Browsing pictures in the gallery app now match what they look like on other devices.
No data issues either. Sounds like some you applied the update over some modified base firmware. Maybe you should so a full re-image.
|denis_y_s||2/24/11 7:13 PM|
After 2.3.3 update everything looks so yellow, colors are horrible! Contrast is way down and auto brightens is useless now :( Why did you have to mess with it Google???
|jasondclinton||2/24/11 7:15 PM|
One more thing: I noticed that the "auto" brightness now skews closer to dim than it did before which is a huge help because "auto" never got dim enough to keep the NS from blinding me in the dark. So, I think perhaps you guys are complaining about a combination in the auto level changing and the color balance being more accurate.
Try turning the brightness all the way up to see what I'm talking about.
|Anthony44||2/24/11 7:15 PM|
@Jason that's nice to hear. I have two questions did you update yourself which is probably yes and did you have reboot and data issues before update thanks
|jasondclinton||2/24/11 7:18 PM|
@Anthony44 Yes and yes. Update fixed both issues.
|Anthony44||2/24/11 7:19 PM|
@jason I didn't update yet but I must agree with you. I thought the auto dim was still too bright. I just hope the adjustment still allows it to be visible outdoors.
|MathGuy||2/24/11 7:23 PM|
It's such a darn shame ... The display was always perfect for me in "auto" ... now it is useless, much too dark.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 7:36 PM|
It's not about auto dim/mod, it's not looking good bright or dim. The screen looks a little 3D...OMFG, why do some people see this as o'k? the some of you need new eye's and, Google should look for some new eye's to because, sending out a update from a Super Amoled display to a LCD display on the Nexus S after Android 2.3.3 just lead me to think that we are all just lab rats...WTF Google?
|DevilD0g||2/24/11 8:01 PM|
Google, come on! The 2.3.3 update has messed up the color saturation and contrast on everyone's Nexus S screens, don't you test these updates before you send them out? Your lack of attention to detail is sad. This issue need to be fixed immediately!
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 8:17 PM|
Looks like we are all damed until Google stops being so death to the forums. Let's all not just flame Google, but flame Samsung to for crappy hardware tha at makes it so hard for Google to patch the phone. Please I need to know am I or us all stuck with this issue or should I just go and get a Iphone? I know that Google will to start feeling it when people stop buying there products and start sticking with Apple. What, It's been about five new phones that's been pushed out this month and every time I see a new one it makes me sick to my GUT! that company's are still selling lemons. Man Samsung, the Vibrant had you guy's on the EDGE!!! and you wan't to take Google down with you? huh, I told my self that I would try Google, one more time and this is it. Your time is up FIX OR NOT yeah! whats almost 600 bucks in this economy huh?
|msa34||2/24/11 8:19 PM|
This is really annoying
Random reboot or fucking color!:(
|KGizzle||2/24/11 8:20 PM|
can we change it back to 2.3.2?
|KGizzle||2/24/11 8:22 PM|
the low battery indicator was orange now its yellowish green color, wtf.
|Steven RM||2/24/11 8:23 PM|
I'm glad I found this thread before I manually updated to 2.3.3 (which is possible, for the impatient). This really is a sad lack of attention to detail by Google. When my 2.3.3 OTA update notification pops up on my phone, I'm going to decline it.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 8:26 PM|
Sad but i'll stick with the random reboot. The color just sucks that bad. Games look sick/Boot/Unlock Slide; Wait, maybe Google is posting out Nexus one update to the Nexus S and the Nexus S update to the Nexus one? Idk...could be dealing with Google.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 8:29 PM|
@KGizzle, just don't install it please don't it's that bad.
|KGizzle||2/24/11 8:29 PM|
this is so annoying. Going from one of the most beautiful screens out to this! I cant stand looking at my phone anymore...
|KGizzle||2/24/11 8:31 PM|
@jalyn2002, unfortunately i had already updated to 2.3.3. before i read this post, there has to be a way to go back right?
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 8:38 PM|
@KGizzle, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooW!!! that's how I feel, so when my mom or brother call me and the phone just reboot, I'll just remember that this is just my game phone and they will have to call me on my real smart Iphone 4/5/6/7/8/9/10 hope I'm not dead by then but, Iphone 99/100. Well I'll just tell my kids to never buy a WP7 or a Android device when I'm gone. No but realy this is sad.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 8:42 PM|
@KGizzle, Just Odin back to the stock Rom.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 8:45 PM|
@KGizzle, It will take you back to stock 2.3.1 and then jus update to 2.3.2 It's that simple.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 8:47 PM|
but that's will be taking us all back to reboot issue's but, I don't think that 2.3.3 fix the reboot issue anyway...lol
|irenicxx||2/24/11 9:59 PM|
@jalyn2002, why do you think 2.3.3 doesn't fix the reboot issue? You still have it? I don't have issue in 2.3.2 so I wonder should I update or not..
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 10:11 PM|
@irenicxx, I did have 2.3.3 but do to the color issue I went back to 2.3.2 in no time. I think that Google is better then this and, I do think that this update should have come very clean but, it did't. There was posted links of this update ever where but Google them self. So this update is a beta therefore, I don't think it has the fix we need. It just has more prob...we don't need.
|BiGMERF||2/24/11 10:16 PM|
how can i go back?
|Mkenya4t||2/24/11 10:24 PM|
Having same issue as well. Nexus S - Tmobile USA. Did manual update as the colors immediately seemed very pale. Hoping for a quick fix, while watching this paint dry.
|jalyn2002||2/24/11 10:30 PM|
|thegod2012||2/24/11 11:17 PM|
i updated from nand and my colors are the same i even but it through some test and its all the same
|kikaioh||2/25/11 1:29 AM|
Why did change the colors on the phone, android-devs? Why? The cooler color tone was way better.
|morodas||2/25/11 1:54 AM|
Yes.... Same Problem with me. Screen's turned a bit yellowish. Google, pls send a patch ASAP...!!1
|lazyn00b||2/25/11 1:57 AM|
I agree with jasondclinton, this update is an improvement. Whites and grays are now much more accurate, not too far off from my calibrated Sony Bravia.
And yeah, the auto-brightness now works in dark/dim conditions.
I think people just got accustomed to the garish color/contrast of the phone as shipped, they'll get over it.
|DirkGently1||2/25/11 2:29 AM|
|Dougalachi||2/25/11 2:51 AM|
Just giving my input that I have also noticed a change in color reproduction ever since I updated yesterday. I don't like it currently, but maybe that will change with time.
|kongkkm||2/25/11 2:56 AM|
Same problem facing here!!!What is happening?
|rag112||2/25/11 4:16 AM|
Me to just downloaded ota on nexus s last night and all my colors are yellow looks like its a cheap lcd screen google better fix it or iphone here i come
|windmill_81||2/25/11 4:34 AM|
After update whites are better. Compared side to side with Galaxy S now this one looks really blue.
|Rasty||2/25/11 6:17 AM|
|lfcosta||2/25/11 6:46 AM|
Pls, post a print to compare before and after colors...
|lfcosta||2/25/11 6:49 AM|
Ops, tnks Rasty...
|Naji02||2/25/11 6:58 AM|
The was the very first thing I noticed after updating was marked drop in contrast. I updated my phone manually, not from OTA.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 6:59 AM|
Wow Google is so controlling at times, they actually have some people that like this bleached out change in the color of the display. I my self and many of others don't like it and, think that it's a issue that Google did not intend. Google has not responded at all do to the matter; really people, this is so big of a change to the display I am afraid to accept the fact that, when I turn on my phone it almost looks like a freaking LCD and, if I wanted a LCD display I would have bought a Nexus One which is a better device.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 7:06 AM|
Let's start a voting pole, Vote NICE! if you like the change of the display. Vote UGLY! if you do not like it.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 7:09 AM|
|Andy.castro85||2/25/11 7:21 AM|
I think it has something to do with the brightness. When I put the brightness up to 100 the colors look fine. Still not happy with it though. I like it the way it was
|BiGMERF||2/25/11 8:30 AM|
OMG My data works 20 percent of the time now. this is terrible. I have done every reboot possible. Works fine when i switch to 2g (edge) or wifi, but 3g rarely works. I have 5 bars but it stays in the upload and then times out
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 10:29 AM|
Here is a video of the change of display colors from Android 2.3.2 to Android 2.3.3 I recorded it in HD so watch in HD to see if you can see the difference
|Ry Guy||2/25/11 11:53 AM|
For Nexus S, we have adjusted the color temperature settings to more accurately reflect darker colors at all brightness levels. The Gingerbread UI being darker, we found that the colors were not as accurate when the device was being used at lower brightness levels. For example, some users reported that the initial color temperature was too high leading to some darker greys having a reddish tone; with the new color temperature this is no longer the case.
|MathGuy||2/25/11 12:00 PM|
On my Nexus S, it is not a "slight difference" at all. The color is extremely yellow, washed out and the auto-brightness level is extremely dim and unusable for me.
This phone had a beautiful display before the update and is now unsatisfactory. If the screen were like this when I bought the phone, I would have returned it.
Is there a way to go back to 2.3.2 colors and brightness?
This upgrade is a big disappointment to me. I feel my phone is ruined.
|denis_y_s||2/25/11 12:03 PM|
@Ray Guy the problem is that not all AMOLED displays are the same, lots of them were purplish, but others were yellowish from beginning. Mine had yellowish tint from day I bought it, so now with this patch it looks way to yellow, I don't have white colors any more!!! It fixed issue for some people but make things much worse for others. Please let me know how I can now fix it!
|windmobile927||2/25/11 12:12 PM|
I noticed the same yellowish tint initially. I thought there was something wrong with the room that I was in and never in a million years could have guessed they actually changed it.
I personally think it looks horrible. Please bring back the old colour scheme or give us an option to choose which one we like. Like many have said, we paid a lot of money to have this phone for its amazing super amoled screen.
I really hope an update is coming up.
|rdbarclay||2/25/11 12:33 PM|
@Ry Guy The yellow tint is VERY noticeable on my Nexus S. It really does ruin what used to be a beautiful display. I am very disappointed. Please revert this change or allow us to choose - I don't have any whites anymore, only shades of yellow!
|supercurio||2/25/11 12:42 PM|
It is true that the new color profile fixes the purple grays but unfortunately the actual rendering is very far from accurate.
I'm working on Super AMOLED calibration in project-voodoo improvements since a few months.
Hopefully I can tell you it's possible to build perfectly accurate and pleasing color profile that makes everyones happy ;)
Talked about it to Romain Guy and Brian Swetland yesterday, both answered about a collaboration on this, and I would suggest to setup it real quick given the fast bad feedback spread.
For curious people:
SAMOLED research tools: https://github.com/project-voodoo/color
Kernel patches: https://github.com/project-voodoo/linux_samsung/commits/nexus-s-voodoo
Voodoo Control app activate already an alternate color profile that don't suffer from the purple deviation, and look similar to the pre 2.3.3 profile.
However i gave it the rating of 5/10 because it can still be improved a lot manually or using a hardware calibrator.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 12:43 PM|
thank you for your response Ry Guy, I have a few questions to ask Google. Why with all of the other things to adjust in Gingerbread like, HD video recording/dropped WiFi signal/Network signal/UI Lag. Why would you guy's do something risky like change the colors on the Nexus S? would't it have been more easy to just give us a app.apk for people who want to change the color of the Display? I never had a problem with the color of the Display and, there are many of us who love the colors of the Nexus S screen before the 2.3.3 update, Please bring a fix soon because I love Google and, if all of the bad press the Nexus S been getting make's me feel bitter. I know Google as a company feels worse. Thank's!
|DONT no what to do||2/25/11 12:44 PM|
Same problem ... google you guys need to think twice before you do things ... I sold my n1 for da nS and I have only had problem after problem ... so now yall will bring out a new one and we will be stuck with this S@"£ ! SLOWLY LOOSING MY TRUST IN YOU GUYS!!
I no you cant please all but really Yellow tint crappy pixels , that dosnt take a Steve Jobs to tell yall YOU SUCK!!
EX fan ....
|WestindiesKING||2/25/11 1:04 PM|
This isnt cool.It was better before. I wasnt complainin about the colors at all
|LuvAndroidGadgets||2/25/11 1:13 PM|
Yes it has changed my Nexus S and I very much dislike this new feel. I think we need a quick update on the same. Was this a result of UI change or some error?
Fortunately, this does not happen in Nexus One.
|megabyt3||2/25/11 1:32 PM|
@Ry Guy - can you at least tell us if there's a possibility of a separate app to do color adjusting?
I won't be updating with this release, but if there's a chance this will be "fixed" in the near future can you let us know?
|Anthony44||2/25/11 1:58 PM|
Guys lets chill first lets hope this update solves the reboot and data issues if it does and we make enough noise I'm sure they can fix the color with an update please most important is the phone working.
|tCC 0||2/25/11 2:10 PM|
was also afraid to update to 2.3.3, but I did it eventually :)
the auto brightness is much dimmer now and I kinda prefer the new color profile
|MathGuy||2/25/11 3:12 PM|
I never had random boots or data issues ... but I did have white as a color on my phone. :)
If someone could build an app to give me back my colors, I'm ready to buy it in the android market.
Definitely taking the XOOM off my birthday list now.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 3:22 PM|
Maybe the reboot issue is because of the UI? because I don't see any other reason to change the colors of the display.
|Teknojunkee||2/25/11 3:33 PM|
I for one will be reverting back to 2.3.2 Never had a random reboot problem and WILL NOT accept these colors.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 3:46 PM|
@Teknojunkee I don't think that this is a small problem or Google would have never change the display, I really don't.
|Teknojunkee||2/25/11 3:58 PM|
@jalyn2002. As was stated by RyGuy in the answer "...some users reported that the initial color temperature was too high leading to some darker greys having a reddish tone; with the new color temperature this is no longer the case..."
I personally do not think this was a problem, more a request from discussions on this help forum. I see it purely as to personal preference. Having said that, obviously the people who didn't like the display colors were in the same predicament I am in now.
The only way I can see this getting solved is to have an option as to the color profile.
You cannot start with one color temp. and then change it without first letting people know what will happen after the update. To me, that is not fair (to either side). I think there at least should have been some more thought as to what the outcome of this was to be. It is like purchasing a tv with auto-color and then after an update the color temps change. Would you accept that? What if you liked the temps that way?
|Alpha324||2/25/11 4:14 PM|
Yes, please add an option to select the color profile, this would make everybody happy.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 4:19 PM|
@Teknojunkee I agree.
|WestindiesKING||2/25/11 5:09 PM|
I also discovered in the gmail there is an update that states that it resovles an issue for 2.3.4 are they releasing an update to resolve this issue and other things?
|Rasty||2/25/11 5:27 PM|
Ry Guy, you can not create a small file that anyone who wants it can download with the old colors? there are people who bought the display with the colors because he liked the old way
|Packetknife||2/25/11 5:29 PM|
I'm finding this change quite unpleasant. Were there different batches of screen? Something isn't right here if this is an ~improvement~ for some and a displeasing change for others. :-/
|jpmorgan||2/25/11 5:38 PM|
Please consider an update providing a "choice" of what colour temperature to set.
I was not experiencing the "gamma" issue to the same severity as other Nexus S owners. For example I've had no "purple tint" as experienced by other users. So, this update has made my screen far less accurate than before. Whites are extremely yellow, and overall the screen is far less impressive than it was before.
If this isn't fixed in the near future I'll be forced to unlock the bootloader and experiment with voodoo colour profiles. I'd rather not have to void my warranty to get back the colour profile I had in 2.3.0-.2. This change honestly should not have occured without temperature options, not all SAMOLED screens are the same!
|WestindiesKING||2/25/11 5:39 PM|
Better yet a tool to control the screen. Just like a computer monitor or television
|Rasty||2/25/11 5:54 PM|
|Alpha324||2/25/11 6:07 PM|
@Ry Guy the new color profile is probably very accurate, but I guess in the creation some of the black and white levels were sacrificed. I think Google can do better, first I would suggest to add an option to select color profiles, and second I would provide the original profile and the new profile. Third, as an enhancement I would add some profiles in between, some with more contrast but still a little bit off. Or why not let users create there own profiles?
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 6:13 PM|
How about I can't sleep with this on my mind because I use the Nexus S as a alarm clock and, as soon as I wake up I'll see the UGLY screen...please fix soon.
|jalyn2002||2/25/11 6:18 PM|
really, what was Google thinking on this one. The Nexus S was a dream phone. With all of this heat coming at Google, I don't think we will see another Nexus? Hey, there's always Apple.
|Teknojunkee||2/25/11 6:22 PM|
There is no need for that here. This is to help google with our opinions.
|supercurio||2/25/11 6:25 PM|
Just published a 2.3.3 kernel with everything from the latest release except the new screen color calibration code & settings
You will find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876132
As it's a Voodoo kernel, you'll get access to the additional sound settings but also the alternate color profile, not perfect but correcting the previous purple shade issue.
|Capyvara||2/25/11 7:00 PM|
Comparison photo found on the internet:
|Ryan Paymaster||2/25/11 8:48 PM|
Can anyone provide a link to an old official 2.3.2 release?
My screen looks like a BlackBerry Curve 83xx now. The wallpaper is horrible and changed it to black.
|Steven RM||2/25/11 10:15 PM|
The fantastic depth of the colours and the trueness of the whites are among the top reasons for me buying this. Having seen comparison screenshots, I'm not going to update to 2.3.3 - luckily, still on 2.3.2 now - and I'm hoping, along with a lot of other people, that this gets sorted for 2.3.4, or whatever is next. If not, there's going to be a flood of Nexus S' for sale on eBay.
I've already been p****d off by my old HTC Desire having a horribly pinkish hue to the whites, so if I'm whacked with a similar horrible screen experience on Android, and unable to update my Nexus S, it's over to iPhone 5 for me, in the summer.
|oscillik||2/25/11 10:39 PM|
just got the update and VERY disappointed to find out that the colour is intentional. the screen looks like complete crap now. really do not agree with the fact that this change was not made public before the update went out.
|sibidominic||2/25/11 11:48 PM|
Android eventhough is an awesome OS....i dnt thnk its still perfect....
and changes like this are not welcome at all...are u guys goin in reverse direction after comin this far ??
pls dnt make us regret our decisions to be android....and get the best we thought..which is the NEXUS S...
am yet to get the OTA update...now am confused....
dnt know if this is happening for a few ?? or to all...
|sibidominic||2/25/11 11:51 PM|
and Ry Guy....we wud really appreciate if u wud come out and post wat u think after these many negative feedback on the new color temp.....
and we all hope there wud be a small update following 2.3.3 to revert the color issue....
pls keep us posted....
|converter42||2/25/11 11:55 PM|
@Ry_Guy With all due respect, what you've done is to change something no one was complaining about. In fact, the appearance of the display was one of the few qualities of the Nexus S that hadn't made me feel like a total tool for having spent the $500 on a shiny, black brick that rebooted every time I took a phone call. Please, for Pete's sake, fix the color profile so I don't have to take a trip to the mall and trade this thing for a G2.
|techtycoon1||2/26/11 1:31 AM|
I updated before reading this and now I am experiencing the color change. But contrary to most posts, it is not as bad as seen from the reactions.
It is still ok but yeah I am waiting for reversal of this color change. BTW .. why was this not mentioned on the android developer forums for the introduction of the 2.3.3 .... they just went blabbing around for the NFC things (which are mostly useless till now)

Battery power better after the update ,problem when tick and untick nfc is be sold,grrek menu thank you google.but why not greek keyboard?pblem with sound notify sms still here.why not videocalls?
|thenoic||2/26/11 3:42 AM|
I dont buy a expensive phone to have an ugly screen few week later! Please, reverse the change, I REALLY hate that?
Respawn my lost beauty screen... P_P
|Anthony44||2/26/11 4:13 AM|
Well I hope Google realize the uproar this has caused. I have an android because of the freedom it offers. Google we understand you were trying to help us and that's great. I think since you did this as stated by RY Guy simply put it back or atleast make it optional. I think that may be a win win situation different stroke for different folks. I know you will do the right thing here after all this is Android not that other system right?
|Parttimer||2/26/11 4:18 AM|
Updated to 2.3.3, screen has got a slight yellow tint know.
If this was not done for other reason and was done to get a more realistic colour response, fair enough but in todays day and age we need control over this our selves, so come on GOOGLE give us an APP or something to do this, then all would be happy with the display.
Could it be becasue some Nexus S are now being built with an SLCD screen?
|jm france||2/26/11 4:18 AM|
I was about to buy a nexus s but now when I see the 2.3.3 colour contrast, the black is no more black anymore, I am not going to buy it at all, I'll go for apple sorry google.
|yov001||2/26/11 4:30 AM|
Just updated to 2.3.3 and I hate this colour wash out that we now have, Please Sort it out Goolge my first thought was that the screen had been damaged!
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 4:40 AM|
@yov001, I thought the same thing. This has to be bad, who was in charge of changing the colors @ Google? because, they must have had a bad day and, my Nexus S had to pay for it.
|Rasty||2/26/11 5:02 AM|
|j4wzor||2/26/11 7:57 AM|
I'm on 2.3.2 ... is it possible to turn off the automatic update for this? I love the way my screen looks. I don't want it to change one bit.
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 8:58 AM|
if you change to a pure black background, the screen will look half as bad. Hope this helps for now...I know, we shouldn't settle huh?
|oscillik||2/26/11 9:00 AM|
@jalyn2002 - that is not acceptable. due to Google's intervention here, the screen on my Nexus S is now LESS vibrant and displays colours LESS vividly.
|Jelm||2/26/11 9:08 AM|
google, you'd better give the option for custom color profiles... This is going bad.
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 9:10 AM|
@oscillik, What do we do? Google just won't say yes or no on if there will be a app/ota, to change this widespread color error.
|oscillik||2/26/11 9:13 AM|
@jalyn2002 - well, Google don't class this as a "colour error", so it would seem that we're stuck with this. i'm really quite angry about this. it is akin to Sony removing "Other OS" option from the PS3.
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 9:21 AM|
If only they say yes they will change; sorry...They will let us change the color of the Nexus S display with a app/link to update, we will all feel safe. Being stuck with this is not a good feeling Google.
|oscillik||2/26/11 9:26 AM|
i'm very strongly considering getting a refund on my £430 Nexus S, since it was advertised as having such a vividly coloured display, which has now been retroactively taken from my phone. it is bait-and-switch, plain and simple. I bought the phone as an upgrade to my Nexus One mostly on the premise that the screen was better. now it looks just the same.
|Chuker||2/26/11 9:31 AM|
I love my nS and the color the way it is - I won't be updating either.
|oscillik||2/26/11 9:31 AM|
@Chuker - you won't have a choice, if you're on stock Android you WILL get the update.
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 9:34 AM|
@oscillik, If I'm correct, Sony removed "Other OS" for security reasons and, Google removed a good display of color for a bad display of color. Sony= a score 0 Google a score of -0
|Spooky Tunes||2/26/11 9:35 AM|
I for one like the new color temperature. Gray is now actually grey, not purple anymore.
|oscillik||2/26/11 9:40 AM|
@jalyn2002 - the fact of the matter is, "Other OS" was a feature that a lot of people actually wanted to use. Google and Sony are as bad as each other right now, for doing this.
@James Brost - my Nexus S wasn't displaying greys as purple.
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 9:48 AM|
@James Brost, that's my point. nine out of ten people don't like the change of the color but, a very few do. It's not fair to us that when the phone was released nobody complained like this, the color was great! to most. Google we are giving you a million dollar idea to bring us a app to equal this one out.
|jm france||2/26/11 11:34 AM|
before this colour change, the phone was really competing the apple retina screen, now it does not event compete its predecessor the nexus one, set up a new ota quickly or I will return the phone too.
no one complained before about the screen and the colours, on the contrary everyone was happy about it.
SO FIX IT QUICKLY
|mr.leslie.wong||2/26/11 12:02 PM|
I downloaded and updated with 98f3836cef9e.signed-soju-GRI40-from-GRH78C.98f3836c.zip yesterday.
Country / Language:English
I don't see a drastic color change. For example, the white background looks clean, with no tint, in Facebook, Twitter, Gmail and the Google search page with Browser.
I tried Navigation on a walk yesterday in full sun and overcast and the screen was fine.
The color balance of the photos I took with various manual color temperature settings with Camera look OK too.
|oscillik||2/26/11 12:03 PM|
@mr.leslie.wong - then i would suggest that either you are a rare case in this matter, or you need your eyes tested.
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 1:00 PM|

@converter42, I put a star. Hope that helps us all!
|MRJ25||2/26/11 4:55 PM|
Has anyone noticed that in addition to the washed out color any image with a fade Or dithering looks all pixelated. I had the new honeycomb logo image set as my wallpaper after the update it looks so bad I had to delete it. The new color makes my phone look super cheap.
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 5:09 PM|
@MRJ25, Yep I can see that even in the new app market. When you select a app like to install it, you see the bigger image of the app photo pix elated. Your not the only one, I'm with you to dude.
|MarkatPhoneFix||2/26/11 6:12 PM|
I am trying to gather up all the information on the issues related to the update.
I've put together a small blog at http://blog.phonefix.org/ to get information.
I'd especially appreciate thoughts on how we can escalate this with Google, can an app be made to fix this or is there a simple way to roll back to 2.3.2 release.
If you have learned something on the web and want to add to the resource pile, please stop by and contribute.
|AidenRaz||2/26/11 7:20 PM|
does anyone know if you can turn it back to 2.3.2, if yes how?
|jalyn2002||2/26/11 7:56 PM|
@AidenRaz, yes you can but, you would have to be experienced to do so. I wouldn't recommended that you do that because of the reboot issue. Just wait it out Google will figure this out soon, they always do.
|AidenRaz||2/26/11 7:59 PM|
@jalyn2002 Thank you for you advice! I think I'll just till google fix it!
|jalyn2002||2/27/11 12:22 AM|
Will we all get a fix Ry Guy? so we can all sleep good at night.
|megabyt3||2/27/11 12:47 AM|
Is there a way to stop this update from being installed on the Nexus S automatically? My device is not rooted.
|Rasty||2/27/11 1:20 AM|
|Paladin_Andrei||2/27/11 1:55 AM|
So, why not a "color temperature" setting for display, so everybody can set their displays as they like?
|Rasty||2/27/11 2:02 AM|
|jalyn2002||2/27/11 2:03 AM|
We will not stop until we get a fix, this is so wrong on all levels Google. This is so easy to fix a caveman could do it.
|richardlai||2/27/11 3:11 AM|
Shameless plug: I've taken some comparison shots here: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/27/nexus-s-2-3-3-update-adjusts-screens-color-temperature-we-go-e/
I honestly don't see any aforementioned issues here. In fact, I like this tweak.
|Rasty||2/27/11 3:58 AM|
|TRIUMF||2/27/11 5:31 AM|
I hate that yellow tint. Please, make colors back as it was before! I couldn't even imagine that someone can make such "fix" and make colors to be so wrong!
|jalyn2002||2/27/11 5:45 AM|
It has a piss color now...and, I'm not being funny, take a look for your self.
|jlbergqvist||2/27/11 6:02 AM|
I applied the update manually (this might be the key thing here, i dont know, also this is a UK phone, bought new in the UK, so that could be a thing too maybe) but my whites certainly aren't yellow. Maybe a little duller (which is frankly easier on the eye), but the whites are certainly white. Sorry if it came out a bit angry, but my phone does not have a piss colour. Frankly I like it.
|no_one_can||2/27/11 8:49 AM|
For all you guys can't live with the yellowish tint (like me) and don't want to wait for the fix from google, backup your system and try out voodoo custom kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876132), thanks to the developer (@supercurio). This is 2.3.3 with the original color profile (and some performance improvement, ~24xx quarant score). I may go back to the stock things when this color issue is fix.
|fizzydx||2/27/11 9:27 AM|
I'm another one that's not a fan of the new colours, something in between 2.3.2 & 2.3.3 i think would be better, if that's not possible then going back to how it was in 2.3.2 would be a lot better than it is in 2.3.3.
|bluemarc22||2/27/11 9:36 AM|
gosg, i don't like the new colors either, especially what it does to whites. aghhh
however, i like the new color coordinations in gmail labels and the new easier copy/past inside gmail. I wonder if the color temp change has anything to do with the label color sync? uhmmmm....
|mr.leslie.wong||2/27/11 10:47 AM|
@oscillik Did you see today's Engadget story? <http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/27/nexus-s-2-3-3-update-adjusts-screens-color-temperature-we-go-e/>
A comment from dimi goug may account for the difference:
I bought my phone in the US, December 16, 2010.
|Rasty||2/27/11 11:04 AM|
|oscillik||2/27/11 11:11 AM|
@mr.leslie.wong so we both need to accept that some people are having the issue and some are not, and this is due to negligence on the part of Google for not giving us a choice about the colour temperature.
|converter42||2/27/11 11:28 AM|
@oscillik I would characterize it as negligence for not thoroughly testing the result of the change across all known component variations in a wide range of lighting conditions with multiple observers.
Google seriously needs to start a development release channel for nexus phones. This issue would have been squashed long before release if developers had had the opportunity to test the change and express their disapproval.
|mr.leslie.wong||2/27/11 11:33 AM|
@oscillik: supercurio, at xda-developers, is working on calibration kernel based on 2.3.3 where you can change the gamma table and send direct brightness and gamma points commands to the panel.
|oscillik||2/27/11 11:35 AM|
@converter42 - even if they had tested across component variations (which i'm sure they did anyway), we would be left in exactly the same situation. the onus here is still on Google, and their very Sony like decision to change a major aspect of the phone in drastic ways without even notifying us as customers.
@bluemarc22 - no the gmail labels are a consequence of the 2.3.4 gmail update, that just happened to coincide with the release of Andrew 2.3.3
@mr.leslie.wong - i shouldn't have to root my device and void my warranty to get this issue fixed. as far as i'm concerned, that is an illegitimate fix due to the simple fact that applying that fix would void my warranty.
|DevilD0g||2/27/11 12:31 PM|
If this color change was done to help improve battery life, I don't see how it can. With the old color scheme, my battery usage for the display was 43%, now it's 59%.
Additionally, for the person who's been posting the white paper comparison to Google's home page all over the internet, I did exactly that, and my screen is not white. Correct screen calibration does not mean each person perceives that color calibration the same, and perception is everything. It's not whether it's right or wrong, it's how it's perceived.
|oscillik||2/27/11 12:45 PM|
@demo23019 - it took you 5 edits to use the bold tag, and you've used it in completely the most inappropriate manner. well done.
|demo23019||2/27/11 12:45 PM|
Thanks Google for ruining IQ
Colors are dull and TBH looks like my old Nexus one.
Defeats the whole purpose of having a SAMOLED screen.
My Samsung Vibrant had good white levels amd my Nexus S were very good now its crap IMO this is another way of Google sacrificing for better battery.
The whole point of the SAMOLED was the higher contrast ratio over standard AMOLED to help with direct sunlight plus make colors more vibrant.
Now outdoor visablity sucks like my Nexus one and games and movies look awful with dull colors ..especially whites
|demo23019||2/27/11 12:50 PM|
Yea becasue i copied and pasted what i said from another forum.
and then relizes i had to bold then type copy piaste doesnt work with bold you have to type all out
yet another stupid thing with google you would think a simple . would work here but NO
|oscillik||2/27/11 12:50 PM|
@demo23019 - you miss the point. your use of bold text is inappropriate. it is just as bad as if you had typed it all out in caps.
|demo23019||2/27/11 12:51 PM|
lol plus i cant spell ...
seriously bold is not the same as CAPS
|demo23019||2/27/11 12:51 PM|
it got your attention didn't it ;)
|jm france||2/27/11 1:40 PM|
It seems that some people do not have this problem with the OTA, so maybe the colour change is a bug otherwise google said that the 2.3.3 will change the colour, and so they said they did it on purpose to save time in order to fix this bug quickly. anyway they have no choice to fix it to many people are complaining as much as for the reboot problem.
|jalyn2002||2/27/11 2:52 PM|
And still nothing from Ry Guy. Please let us know if we are stuck, yes or no?
|jalyn2002||2/27/11 2:54 PM|
I thank all of the people that see this as a issue and not a good thing from Google.
|voidmain||2/27/11 5:58 PM|
not just the color, I found the accelerometer is changed too, it's way less sensitive than 2.3.2
|Qewbicle||2/27/11 7:05 PM|
I don't like the new color settings. When I bought the phone I was impressed with the way the colors looked. Now I am ashamed to show people the quality of the display. Give us a warm to cool slider, and possibly a contrast or gamma, so we can adjust to how we feel is suiting to our lighting conditions and our brightness level. What would also make it neater would to be able to save a few profiles that engendered your setting to your brightness level.
|Erdem U. Altinyurt||2/28/11 5:01 AM|
Nothing to say...
|Pflaumental||2/28/11 9:12 AM|
The posted videos (watch in hd) clearly show some problems with the new color settings beside the warmer tones: Many images that looked fine in 2.3.2 now look "dithered" as if they only had 256 colors or so. I don't think this effect can be only because of a change in color temperature. Looks like they screwed up some other things too.
|Anthony44||2/28/11 9:19 AM|
Wow the videos tell the story. I am waiting for the ota by choice and it hasn't come yet. I wonder what's the hold up I mean its not like 1million sold. I think Google will fix this when the ota goes out.
I ask anyone who is on 2.3.3 how does it look out doors in sunlight my guess is its probably useless. The sharper contrast of super amoled worked great outdoors with the adjusted temperature how is it now
|denis_y_s||2/28/11 9:25 AM|
@Anthony44 - It's quite bad now, I use my phone on auto brightness and it worked great inside and on a sun before the upgrade. Now auto is useless ((
|GPugs||2/28/11 9:41 AM|
Has anyone actually gotten the OTA? I'm still waiting for it on the S and One.
|Anthony44||2/28/11 9:45 AM|
@denis thanks for that troublesome news. I also use my NS on auto and its been great. I haven't received the ota yet hopefully Google realizes this must be fixed and corrects it in the ota.
I can't imagine what's taking it so long I guess they are waiting to see how the people who downloaded 2.3.3 reacted to this change.
I only hope they understand it needs to be reverted.
I will wait for the official ota though tempted to jump the gun. I pretty much boxed it since it had data issues thanks for your response
|Anthony44||2/28/11 9:50 AM|
@gpugs interesting question I've started a thread "did anyone get the 2.3.3 ota from google yet " and to my surprise no one answered yet.
We must ask where is it and what's the hold up. I have a nexus one and nexus s and neither has it yet.
|Anthony44||2/28/11 11:51 AM|
@rasty the ns users would say nice pics but appear washed out since 2.3.3
|Rasty||2/28/11 12:01 PM|
|Anthony44||2/28/11 12:12 PM|
The interesting point here to me is this 2.3.3 ota from Google. The people here manually downloaded it. I have yet to hear from one person who got the ota.
Google stated it was rolling out days ago but said it could take weeks. A ration person can see the bull here. Who has received it so far no me or anyone I know. Google a force to be reckon with needs weeks not days or hours to send an ota to so few in numbers. I haven't seen it on my nexus one or nexus s. Wtf.
Perhaps we are being spoofed.
Who has received the ota come out come out where ever you are.
The truth may be we or to say you are once again testers for Google
That's pitiful or perhaps its called stalling because the final product isn't done yet. Please explain why this ota should take weeks. I have never ever experienced a wait this long usually when its announced they say days. Not a month
|Anthony44||2/28/11 12:12 PM|
|Rasty||2/28/11 12:23 PM|
|denis_y_s||2/28/11 12:34 PM|
@Rasty - Maybe Google fix colors for some people but as I stated earlier not all AMOLED displays are the same, there many that had purplish tint but many that had yellowish tint from beginning. Mine had yellowish tint from day I bought it and now with this update screen looks like a crap! That is not fair for me and others who have this problem!
Google - give us a chose to select a color temperature for everyone liking and need!!!
|Toby Satchell||2/28/11 11:29 PM|
Thank you Google for the update. I downloaded it today. It seems to have improved wireless connectivity. However the colours are indeed washed out. Please can you provide an extra setting or option in the display settings for choosing the warmth of the colours. On the display I have the whites are now more yellow and not a true representative of what they should be.
Device: Nexus S
Language: English UK.
|Afonso Juno||3/1/11 2:07 AM|
Same here as a Nexus S user updated to 2.3.3.
Things seem all good except the color tone turns to abit yellowish.
The grey color is accurate though I would say.
Please help tuning the color temperature, or provide options for us to change the temperature profiles.
|jalyn2002||3/1/11 6:05 AM|
Good morning everybody, and good night for some...lol. another day, but no answer from Google about a change back to original stock display colors.
|Rasty||3/1/11 9:17 AM|
|denis_y_s||3/1/11 9:37 AM|
Another photo of comprising 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 screens were posted on http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15039 that shows a color banding problem with 2.3.3 update. Here is the link for picture http://android.googlecode.com/issues/attachment?aid=5390082785082055754&name=233v222colorbanding.JPG&token=b9c203397a989f8f9f60b770090331b7
I also noticed a color banding on my screen..
|jm france||3/1/11 10:52 AM|
did someone get the OTA so far?
|edkim4583||3/1/11 1:50 PM|
I Just installed 2.3.3 today and the screen is a laughable yellow joke. Everything is tinged with urine yellow. It reminds me of a very old badly calibrated crt display from the early 90s.
Why doesnt Google do the right thing and change it back or give us the option to change back to 2.3.2? I cant believe I paid 500 dollars for a phone that is forced to have a yellow screen.
|jalyn2002||3/2/11 7:33 PM|
Google I don't like this at all. Are we going to get a update yes or no? this is on my mind all the time, and I still have some hope left. People don't let up on this because if we don't talk about this, then we will get this all the time from Google.
|Anthony44||3/2/11 8:20 PM|
Ya know you can yell and scream all you want Google as far as I can tell hasn't sent out the nexus s ota. I have both nexus devices and got the PTA for nexus one today. I know no one that got the ota from Google for the nexus s Google cares little for us thats reality. We gotta see what happens when the ota rolls out perhaps it will contain a fix.
I really believe though Google said the ota was rolling out I think the uprising and rightfully so may have halted the send button perhaps it'll be fixed but we gotta wait for the ota then off with their heads matey
|jalyn2002||3/2/11 8:41 PM|
@Anthony44, I agree.
|Rasty||3/3/11 3:01 AM|
Some people have received ota today, however there are differences from what I understand. I expect google to communicate something about the problem of color again.
NS was released in Europe with pre-installed version 2.3.3 and SLCD yesterday.
|Colourfielding||3/3/11 11:39 AM|
Why would you change the screen color on new phone? Don't you think the consumer that bought that phone just might have done so possibly because they liked the look of it when purchasing it? It's like buying a new deep blue colored car and going back to pick it up and have them give you a washed out baby blue colored car? I mean my friends 4 year old iphones screen now looks more vibrant than mine. I think i'm old enough to know what i like and what i find pleasing to MY eye. You need to at least have fix for those that would like to restore their screen to what it was. After all, i always touted to everyone how brilliant your screen was until now.
|maxib||3/3/11 11:48 AM|
I noticed this the minute I switched the phone back on again. The colour change is TERRIBLE and I can't believe that I can't switch it back. This beautiful screen was one BIG selling point for me and it blew friends' iphone screens out of the water. Now, I'm just embarrassed and VERY annoyed. Google you MUST give us an option to either change back to the 2.3.2 colours or to adjust the new version's temperature. I can't stand looking at this grainy, yellowy, washed out screen. You're shooting yourself in the foot with this one google as the screen was a big selling point.Also the fact that I thought the whole point of android over iphone was the freedom of CHOICE over things. If I don't like something, I should have the freedom to change it - don't turn into apple!!
|Slyescokat||3/3/11 1:17 PM|
Will someone who got the official OTA come forward and put everyone straight on what the real deal is?
|oscillik||3/3/11 1:18 PM|
@Slyescokat - i have the official OTA. the deal is: it makes your screen yellow, grainy, and looks like crap.
|Colourfielding||3/3/11 2:07 PM|
I got it last night too Slyecokat. It looks horrible!
|hypermotard||3/3/11 2:20 PM|
I've update my nexus s by myself, cause I couldn't wait over ota. Shame on me!
My screen is ugly!
The auto dimming sensor seems that it couldn't work anymore....
The default brightness when auto dimming is on is too low now, and doesn't react as it should be. In fact in real conditions, with real daylight, it seems that it doesn't work.
The battery level indicator, and the network indicator looks grainy and when battery is about 30% capacity, the colour isn't orange as before, but lightly green and you couldn't make difference between charged more than 30%(green) and less(30 to 15%).
The whites are now displayed with yellow tint.
The screen doesn't look as colourfull and sharp as before. It looks washed out!
Please google developpers, give us a patch to make our display like before update!
Or at least a new update to calibrate our super amoled display as it should!
I didn't paid my phone 700$ to have the same ugly display as slcd european nexus s!
|MarkatPhoneFix||3/3/11 2:58 PM|
I agree with both the color issue AND the auto brightness concerns.
There seems to be some focus on the color, but little about the brightness level. I can't see it in low light or in sunlight. It used to be an awesome display and I bought it for the display it had.
I have canceled by Xoom order until I see if this gets fixed.
Trying to collect information at http://blog.phonefix.org/ if you would like add information or see some links to other threads.
|Colourfielding||3/3/11 7:46 PM|
And so it begins. Four of my friends that were planning on buying this phone prior to the update have now decided to not purchase it after seeing the color changes that c
ame with the OTA. The comment I heard most was..."why would they screw with one of the biggest selling points of that phone?" Good question? Google? At least the "X" graphics that come up when I turn my phone on don't seem to be all washed out so it will remind me of what I used to have. Google...you need to at least give us a "fix" for this as we bought your phone partly based on it's look. Its only fair.
|jalyn2002||3/3/11 9:48 PM|
How long do it take just to send people out a link of a update for the people who don't like the new colors on the 2.3.3 update? just give us the link to a 2.3.3 update, with the original colors. Google I thought that this company was the future, but now I see how Google work. So big of a company can't even put the original colors back; don't even have to fix anything Google already know what they did wrong, and that's coming out with this new color crap and trying to sneak it on people like there dumb, but I got something for you guy's, WE ARE NOT DUMB AT ALL BECAUSE AS SOON AS I REBOOTED MY PHONE I KNEW THAT GOOGLE HAD PISSED ON THE COLORS. PLEASE FIX SO I CAN TURN ON MY NEXUS S, AND PUT MY BEAUTIFULLY NON COLOR CHANGING T-MOBILE VIBRANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|Rasty||3/4/11 2:44 AM|
|denis_y_s||3/4/11 7:39 AM|
For Google engineers,
please read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971987
That's how it should be done!!! Please implement it and everyone will be happy and love you again )
|Anthony44||3/4/11 8:00 AM|
@Denis that's great info perhaps you should place that on a stand alone thread. Google may not be reading here anymore
|denis_y_s||3/4/11 8:48 AM|
@Anthony44 - well, that's only will be effective if everyone would abandon this thread and go to the new one. Here it is http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=7a6cdbc6683f50e2&hl=en
So, please everyone now add your comments there, thanks!
|artfhc||3/4/11 9:27 AM|
I just brought the phone yesterday. The screen was super awesome at first, until I was stupid enough to upgrade to 2.3.3 from OTA.
I own a nexus one with 2.3.3 right now, and to be honest, I think my N1 screen looks way better than my NS now even without comparing them side-by-side. What a shame! AMOLED > Super AMOLED just because of a software change?! What have you done, Google?
Please Google, don't ruin my expectation to the Nexus series. Change back the color to where it was supposed to be. I am begging you.
|Paladin_Andrei||3/4/11 9:51 AM|
Ok, so it seems there are at least two types of screens: the ones that Google tested, and some users reported, that had a purplish hue and on which the update looks good, and the other ones, that had good (or satisfactory) colors and the update makes yellowish.
How can we find out the kind we have?
Also: On a screen this small, over-saturated colors are much better. Most of us are not professional photographers, we don't need strict natural colors. And the colors of the AMOLed jump at you, making this display great. An Desire HD would've had more natural colors, but most of us went to the Nexus S for the bright, oversaturated colors.
|MarkatPhoneFix||3/4/11 9:55 AM|
In my case, I'm just wanting the phone I bought.
I liked the screen ... I bought the phone for the screen ... now it is a different screen I would not have bought.
And the auto-brightness is now useless at all light levels. Finally, I can't see anything outside on the phone ... it was no problem before.
Sounds like a great app opportunity.
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 11:52 AM|
@Anthony44, and @denis_y_s,Trust me Google's reading every thread, especially the thread with the most hits. It's not that they are not reading the threads it's that they don't care about changing the color back because they feel like the color has been corrected. So I know two things. They are going to make a change in the next OTA in months to come, or they are going to color correct in the next mobile os Android 2.4 but, I don't think that Google takes this as a issue and will move on unless we all show Google that this is unacceptable, and a fix to some is a MUST! People look at how long it took to fix the rebooting issue, months and tht was big plus that hurt Google as a company BAD! so how long will this take? months. you guy's need to hold your hat's and chill out! until Google figure this one out.
|Anthony44||3/4/11 12:09 PM|
Noted the main reason for me switching from my nexus one to the nexus s was because outdoors my nexus one was useless. The super amoled fixed that issue. I loved that about this phone. I actually kept it at auto never had to turn it up. I think now with the so called adjusted temperature. I have something that isn't what I intended to buy. Google owes it to us to atleast have a choice isn't that what this while thing is about freedom to choose. I would have got an iphone if I wanted my choices made for me
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 5:52 PM|
I could not take it anymore guy's, I went back to Android 2.3.2 it looks great! Android 2.3.3 looks to ugly.
|oscillik||3/4/11 5:54 PM|
@jaylyn2002 - how did you do that? did you have to root your Nexus S? i'm interested if it can be done without rooting the phone
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 5:57 PM|
Looking at my screen, and thinking to my self what was Google thinking about when switching around the colors like that...Wow Google, Wow.
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 6:08 PM|
@oscillik, No you don't need to root.
|oscillik||3/4/11 6:09 PM|
@jaylyn2002 - can you please direct me to a link on how to go back to 2.3.2 please?
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 6:15 PM|
@oscillik, I'm going to post a YouTube video on how to go back to 2.3.2 just follow this link to my YouTube video, I'll post the new video tonight @ 11:00pm maybe sooner; when done. This is for the people that keep asking me how.
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 6:17 PM|
Here is the link to follow for new how to video
|oscillik||3/4/11 6:19 PM|
@jaylyn2002 - that isn't a how-to video, that's just a video showing the damage that has been done.
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 6:20 PM|
No, I'm doing the video now.
|jalyn2002||3/4/11 10:25 PM|
Here it is, how to get back to stock Android 2.3.1
|Rasty||3/5/11 12:25 AM|
|oscillik||3/5/11 3:44 AM|
@jaylyn2002 - thanks for going to the trouble of making the video, but i'm disappointed to find out that it requires a modified bootloader to downgrade :(
unfortunately because of this, i won't be following your guide :(
|jalyn2002||3/5/11 4:01 AM|
@oscillik, what I posted was from samsung them selves. Good luck.
|maxib||3/5/11 4:48 AM|
@jaylyn2002 - have you removed the youtube video showing how to get back to stock 2.3.1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=w04A0qm_Gvk)? This screen is driving me insane!
|jalyn2002||3/5/11 4:54 AM|
Yep, because I thought about it. I don't want people complaining about this and that getting off topic, let's all just hope for a OTA from Google...Sorry.
|maxib||3/5/11 5:08 AM|
Oh no, please don't do this to me - I can't tell you how excited I was to see there was a way to go back without having to root. I can't take this screen anymore! You were about to become my all time hero! Where can I find how to do this?
|jm france||3/5/11 10:23 AM|
have you guys read Rasty comment, it mentions that google are working on a fix, and I am sure they are, because almost the totality of nexus s owner are complaining about the colour issue, so sooner or later a quick change will occur.
Does anyone receive the OTA?
because maybe they stop the running of the ota to add the color fix.
|Parttimer||3/5/11 12:25 PM|
@ =jm france
I cant see they would stop the OTA to add a fix otherwise there would be 2 3.3 versions out. At a guess there will be something in the next update when it gets released.
|jm france||3/5/11 2:54 PM|
sorry I said stop, but what I mean is launch the ota, no one said he got the ota for the nexus s so far, maybe I am wrong
|maxib||3/5/11 4:43 PM|
@jm france - I got my update OTA two days ago.
Regarding another update, does anyone know how long generally between updates?
|jalyn2002||3/5/11 5:02 PM|
@maxib, whenever Google feels like it.
|Paladin_Andrei||3/6/11 2:10 AM|
Because i don't want a washed-out screen i didn't update manually, and i never got the update (i can live with a reset a few days, for now). So i think (hope) Google is working on something, otherwise they would've got around to sending the update to all phones.
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 2:33 AM|
@Paladin_Andrei, I do think that Google's working on a better color for the Nexus S, but if only they would let us know if they are, because of people like you, and many of other people who are holding out on this update because of this color issue. So, people are suffering do to the reboot issue as a result. Come on Google, this new color change has to be bad because of me, and many of other people rather suffer, and stick it out with this reboot issue in Android 2.3.2 then to go with the new horrible colors that come's with Android 2.3.3. Can we please get a YES or No on if you guy's at Google are working on a better color for the Nexus S
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 2:35 AM|
How long will this go on Google?
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 2:36 AM|
People want to know!
|hol3||3/6/11 2:40 AM|
Very happy I have not yet received the 2.3.3 ota update. Can I choose not to apply it or does it automatically install?
|Anthony44||3/6/11 4:41 AM|
Well I'm pretty pissed here's why. I refuse to manually update and I've yet to get an ota. I chose to wait because I believe its been halted. I have a nexus s that is completely useless it will not keep a data connection long term. I have to pull battery 6 times a day. I read this ota from Google also addressed this issue.
I placed my nexus s back in the box Google /samsung its presently a liability to my business if it was an employee it would have been fired weeks ago.
I fortunately still have a nexus one so as to date still have one of the best phones.
Google the nexus s
1. Phone reboot
2. Data loss
3. Now washed out screen (those updated)
4. Promised ota fix weeks ago duh where is it
5. Typical Google silence
What the hell is going on we are customers not cattle.
|Anthony44||3/6/11 4:57 AM|
On the flip google announces Ry Guy says
Hey guys we realized a lot of you weren't happy with the last update. We decided to halt it to fix it.
I wont be happy but at least ill know why this ota is taking so long
We must realize something is wrong here an ota coming from PLUTO
Would have arrived by now
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 4:59 AM|
@Anthony44, If I here you Google here's you. I did the something even before there was a 2.3.3 "Put the phone back in the box" now that there is a 2.3.3 update I went back to 2.3.2 because of the colors. I did not get a OTA to this day, and I'm not even waiting for it. Yes I did buy this phone so I do want it to be updated, besides the fact that I now own a 600 dollar BRICK! I have learned my lesson, and that is to wait like hell before buying a product, to see what the press say's. For Google to be so big of a company why on earth do I only see Ry Guy, responding to the thread's when he feel like it? Google is a big JOKE!...LMAO
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 5:00 AM|
@Anthony44, where did you here about this? post a link.
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 5:07 AM|
|Anthony44||3/6/11 5:10 AM|
Absolutely like I said this ota is a joke. Google got themselves a dog here. We will suffer for this. I agree with you never again will I buy another nexus phone at launch.
We purchased ten nexus one phones at launch. We. Had many issues and swore never again. The issues were resolved at least most of them
The nexus s we purchased 20. We thought Google learned from last time unfortunately for us they regressed. The nexus s issues are almost laughable and the assimilation of news is ludicrous.
Google lied that's basically the truth here
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 5:11 AM|
Well, I am looking @ my screen now, and there was nothing wrong with the colors, they are just so beautiful coming from 2.3.3 WTF Googl.
|jalyn2002||3/6/11 5:19 AM|
all of the hype this phone had, and Google just messed things all up. A friend of mind said that this is what I get for getting this phone the same day he tried to get me to get the iphone 4g, and he is so happy and I feel so dumb for putting my faith in Android. READ THIS, I WILL NOT BUY A FRAGMENTED BRICK AGAIN G$$GLE
|maxib||3/6/11 9:25 AM|
If Google really have halted the OTA to introduce a fix for the colour issue, what happens to all us poor beggars who installed the crappy version? Would we get the option to upgrade to the new(er) 2.3.3?
And can ANYONE from Google tell us at least what's happening?!
|Anthony44||3/6/11 9:37 AM|
Google wont answer you they do what they want. The people who downloaded were unpaid testers. Google announced the ota but never sent it out at least not really
|Parttimer||3/6/11 9:56 AM|
<w:LsdException Locked="false" Priority="66" SemiHidden=...
|Anthony44||3/6/11 10:04 AM|
That's how people that don't care operate
|maxib||3/6/11 10:05 AM|
I don't get why everyone is saying Google haven't released the OTA? I got mine OTA...really wish I hadn't because I probably wouldn't have even know about an upgrade if it hadn't popped up on the phone. And I didn't have any problems with the phone before, now there's the washed out colour, dodgy GPS and pain-in-the-backside wifi/3G issue.
|jm france||3/6/11 10:08 AM|
Ry Guy will say something soon (I hope), now there are more people complaining about the 2.3.3 color issue that people who complained about the reboot problem. so hurry up google
|Anthony44||3/6/11 10:25 AM|
Soon perhaps not when its needed that's the point
|JPH3||3/6/11 10:34 AM|
The best solution to me would be the release of a Google authored market app that would allow manual color adjustment.
The update could continue as planned, the folks that are happy with their screens could get on with their lives, and the rest of us could install the app, adjust the colors, and be done with it.
|Anthony44||3/6/11 10:35 AM|
Another not the ota if its going out is the slowest I've ever seen. I know no one who has it. I smell a rat
|maxib||3/6/11 11:03 AM|
@Anthony44, I HAVE had the OTA (I hope I'm thinking about the same thing - over the air dowload?). But my wife (same house, same phone bought at same time on same contract) still hasn't so something weird going on - I hope that means they have halted it SO THAT THEY CAN FIX IT (if you're reading, Google)!!!!
@ JPH3, the app would be fine if it allowed the colour to be changed to the original setting. What about fixes for the other stuff though (GPS, wifi)?!
Mind you, I'd settle for that rather than nothing though! It's the screen that irritates me the most.
|Anthony44||3/6/11 11:18 AM|
@Maxib yes that is the ota we speak about. I hope it was pulled so it can be fixed. The problem we have is communication a basic skill all companies should master.
The ota was suppose to fix the reboot issue as well as data/network connection issues did you have any of these before the ota and if so are they resolved
|maxib||3/6/11 11:24 AM|
@Anthony44, I have to say I had no issues before the OTA. Never had a dropped call, reboot or data/connection issues. In fact, the "fix" has actually messed up my wifi/3G automatic toggling. I now have 3G permanently on even at home with the wifi on - so am eating into my data allowance too unless I manually turn the mobile data off. But this is a real pain if I have to keep switching it on everytime I leave the house.
The only thing I can see fixed is a problem I had on an app (google sky map) which meant I had to turn the phone of and on again to restore the accelerometer (changing to landscape mode in texts, browser etc) - that's fine now, but tbh, it was a non-issue for me to begin with.
|Anthony44||3/6/11 11:35 AM|
Wow so 2.3.3 actually was a step back.
I have so much data issues that I boxed my nexus s. I exchanged it twice and switched sim cards three times.
Samsung is useless and tmobile says all is well on their end.
I am fortunate that I still have a nexus one as a back up. I could easily download 2.3.3 but I'm hoping the delay is a real fix. I find it hard to believe were having so many issues. The logical thing may be send phone for repair but all did the same thing and Google acknowledged there is a data/network issue. I think its unfair that my nexus s purchased on 12/16/10 still isn't working
|maxib||3/6/11 11:52 AM|
I had no idea the nexus s was plagued with issues. TBH I thought it was the perfect phone until two days ago when 2.3.3 came along. Loved the way the screen would leave iphone lovers with their mouths open, thinking they had the best screen and all; well, they do now. And all the while I've been going on about how android gives users the CHOICE as opposed to apple - and then they go and make me look like a fool for saying it. Come on google, at least an app which allows users to choose colour temp!!
|Anthony44||3/6/11 12:09 PM|
@Maxib here is the short version. The nexus s under phone info is on gsm/cdma auto by default. The phone once there is super. The phone in weak signal areas switches to wcdma preferred and wont work there. The phone will still show solid green 3g but will not have data. The. Remedies are wait that's an undetermined time sometimes ten minutes or three hours. The other way is a battery pull. I swear I need a hammer
|maxib||3/6/11 12:20 PM|
Never had issues using the 3G in weaker areas before, the wife neither. I'll give the 3G a go tomorrow and see if this update has screwed that up for me too.
|maxib||3/6/11 12:24 PM|
Actually, just tried 3G in the house, switching off wifi and it works fine. Fingers crossed something's ok!
|Anthony44||3/6/11 12:44 PM|
I know when I first got the nexus s that was the official release date. The phone had no issues it was superb. Google released a ota soon after that I forget the number but after that ota the phone instantly became a dog. I only hope 2.3.3 saves the day. I heard that there is another radio out there though that is said to be awesome. I hope the delay here is because Google is paying attention. The issue is if Google changes things what will happen to those that downloaded 2.3.3 perhaps google will just rename it.
I don't care if the call it donkey dong 2.5 just fix this thing.
|maxib||3/6/11 1:27 PM|
Yes I'm concerned about those of us who have already downloaded the crappy upgrade. I'd settle for donkey dong 2.5 too if it means I can go back!
|Colourfielding||3/6/11 2:24 PM|
With the lack of response from Google maybe it's time to take this to other platforms as well. Maybe when others see how Google does or does not respond to the people who buy their products they might step up. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Google-screwed-up-my-Nexus-S-phone/206331152712039
|jalyn2002||3/7/11 12:32 PM|
Still nothing from Google?
|maxib||3/7/11 12:51 PM|
Still waiting...and hoping
|jalyn2002||3/8/11 11:23 AM|
You guy's must remember that this is how Google treat the people that buy there products. Remember, how Google keeps silent when you ask questions, remember we are the people who allow Google to grow, and last but not least, remember all of your trouble we all been threw the next time you are up to buy the next nexus to come. REMEMBER!!! And I promise G$$GLE will REMEMBER YOU!
|jalyn2002||3/8/11 11:24 AM|
And respect you...
|arnoutvos||3/9/11 12:47 AM|
Just to support supercurio (Arve): The colors are bad in 2.3.3. I'm very happy I can adjust it trough Netarchy's custom kernel... with voodoo code from supercurio.
I'm also wondering: maybe it's not only a matter of taste. Maybe there are 2 kinds of Nexus S sAmoled screens: for one part the color adjustment is ok, for the other part the adjustment makes things more worse than 2.3.2.
|jalyn2002||3/9/11 1:29 AM|
@arnoutvos, the colors on 2.3.2 was great, not a problem.
|Eam0n||3/9/11 1:54 AM|
The colors are really messed up, in 2.3.2 the purple tint was annoying but I'd rather have that then the horrible colors of 2.3.3. Please fix this google, ASAP!
|danielvc||3/9/11 8:39 AM|
My screen looks really bad. Please fix this!
|oscillik||3/9/11 7:04 PM|
there is also another problem with this update - i have had at least two random reboots since getting this update.
|jalyn2002||3/9/11 7:59 PM|
@oscillik, me 2 I just had a random reboot. Guy's what do we do? Think Google's going to give us back our money back? I will never buy another Samsung product in my LIFE!!! Wow! it's not really Google's fault, I know it's $am$ung.
|danielvc||3/10/11 4:12 AM|
Is there a way for Google to add an option to select the color profile? That would be great.
|maxib||3/10/11 9:51 AM|
Why have I received posts to this thread on my phone, but when I come to check it on the computer in the evening, the posts aren't here? I got one this morning with a useful link to an app that can address this stupid colour issue, but it's not on here now. Are Google removing posts from here? It's not the first time I thought I'd reply to one that cam through on the phone but cant then find it later on the thread. This is all a bit dodgy - the post said something about google not answering us, so check out an app on the market...
|JPH3||3/10/11 10:11 AM|
@maxib You're right. That post was removed. That's interesting.
|maxib||3/10/11 10:27 AM|
And I've just found that after this update, during the sync with the computer, it's deleted all my pictures and videos. AAAARGH, this update is doing my head in. SORT IT GOOGLE!!!!!!!
|Anthony44||3/10/11 10:29 AM|
Google this you (zzzzzzzzzzz) sleeping on the job
|denis_y_s||3/10/11 10:41 AM|
@maxib can you re-post missing post with the link to the app? I want to see what I am missing..
|maxib||3/10/11 11:09 AM|
@denis_y_s Ok went back into the market, it was the voodoo control app - there's a free version and a £8 one. Seems to control the sound primarily but there's something about being able to manually control the colour. All technical stuff about gamma v1 and gamma hack sliders which I dont quite understand. That's why I wanted to ask if anyone had used it before trying. And if I understood properly from the comments, a galaxy s would require a voodoo kernel (I've tried reading up on kernels, roms, roots, but still remain clueless) but the nexus s shouldn't need it - just this app. Don't know if you understand any more - please help me out if you do!
|denis_y_s||3/10/11 11:27 AM|
@maxib - thanks, yes to use this app you will first need to flash voodoo kernel on Nexus S as well, and I don't want to do it for now.. hope Google will fix it and I can stay on stock firmware.
|maxib||3/10/11 11:39 AM|
Oh no, I was hoping I only needed to download the app. Is this flashing kernels easier than the rooting process? There's so much else going wrong with this phone now after the upgrade, that at least if I can get the colour fixed, I'll feel less like smashing it against a wall.
|denis_y_s||3/10/11 12:03 PM|
There should be a new slogan - "Nexus Does, Google Doesn't"...
Because Nexus S screen can produce beautiful colors, but Google doesn't allow as to see them! Shame on you Google!!!
|denis_y_s||3/10/11 1:07 PM|
@maxib - here is the info on how to flash voodoo kernels - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BpoZycEkNHDr28bkUb1KdJy2xdQ7ZDowpHVMGpXheGc/edit?pli=1#
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:01 PM|
Now Best Buy is selling the Nexus S for 100 bucks with a two year agreement...Wow, Google is selling this phone for a 100 bucks, now that's just called giving up Google, and already working on your new phone, I think it's called THE NEXUS BRICK...Lol...And this new Nexus Brick will have a even buggier OS then Gingerdead. I can't wait to test this new phone from Google...NOT!!!
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:04 PM|
Anybody want to buy my Nexus S for 250$ I will post a link, Ebay soon
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:05 PM|
Please buy this phone so I can get the Iphone 4...Please.
|Anthony44||3/10/11 5:09 PM|
@jayln says for two weeks noticed full price the same. Google hasn't abandoned the phone been through this same thing with nexus one .
|converter42||3/10/11 5:11 PM|
@jalyn2002 if this is so I'll actually buy another (I had my doubts for a while, I'll admit), unfortunately, Best Buy's site and Best Buy Mobile are still listing it for $199 on a 2-year ($150 if you add a line).
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:20 PM|
Here is proof that the Nexus S is a peace of cheap crap that Google do not want to deal with anymore.
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:22 PM|
Why would you guy's buy a brick for 100 dollars on a 2 year agreement?
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:28 PM|
I think this mean that they are dumping this phone. The best way to buy a brick of a device is to buy off contract, and not be stuck with a rebooting 2 year agreement. Plus Ry Guy the 2.3.3 update did not fix this rebooting issue for some, and for the people that have not had a reboot yet with 2.3.3 it will happend, but like I said it's not Google it's $am$ung crappy hardware as with with the Vibrant GPS issue.
|converter42||3/10/11 5:28 PM|
Mine works well. The color profile sucks at low brightness levels, but I'm Ok with it otherwise. The alternative is to switch carriers and go buy hippie phones from Cupertino. I'll pass.
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:30 PM|
Damn Google suck on this one. Did the Nexus Dumb? One have so many issues like the S
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:34 PM|
With all the money that Android is bringing in, you would think that fragmentation would slow them down and work on one good decent device?
|jalyn2002||3/10/11 5:40 PM|
I here that the Nexus One people are having rebooting issues as well. Google PLEASE JUST THROW GINGERBREAD IN THE TRASH< AND DON'T RUSH THE NEXT OS FOR CASH PLEASE!!! WE ARE PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU.
|Colourfielding||3/10/11 11:23 PM|
I think its just plain retarded that I have to be a engineer of some sort to get my phone back to what it was before I downloaded that damn update. Is anyone aware if someone is working on a app to return my nexus s colors background to what I had when I bought this previously beautiful machine? From the silence from Google it doesn't appear that they are. Sounds like a great app idea to me and the thousands of others that are extremely unhappy with the change.
|jalyn2002||3/11/11 12:32 AM|
@Colourfielding-Google's not going to do anything about this until the next mobile os.
|jalyn2002||3/11/11 12:37 AM|
But if we keep showing them that we won't stand for silence, I think they will respond. Just think about how many people past this thread, and said I'll wait on the Nexus S? that's not good for Google at all. For the people that are watching, speak your mind and lets make hope Google will give us a answer.
|maxib||3/11/11 11:25 AM|
With these lame colours, I'd have thought the battery life would improve but it's actually gotten worse. IS there anything good in this update or was i just the free guinea pig for them to test on. I wouldn't mind if I was, so long as they tell me, so that I know they're working on something better, but this silence is really getting on my nerves. Surely SOMEone from google must be reading this. Come on guys, just a hint...?
|jalyn2002||3/11/11 9:43 PM|
Are you there Google? we have issues.
|maxib||3/12/11 1:08 PM|
Is there no other way to talk to someone from Google? I can't believe after all these posts that no one has even dropped a one line answer; even if it's something like "Patience, guys, we're working on it." But NOTHING? Can't they see that the lack of any response shows contempt towards their paying customers and it will drive some of us to apple? Like I said, it's not only the colour thing but many other issues - and they aren't responding in the other threads either.
|jalyn2002||3/12/11 1:48 PM|
@maxib, Google has had it with us unhappy customers! They feel like if they don't respond then, we will shut up about it. I never thought Google would ever put us on TIME OUT! because of $am$ung's crappy hardware, or Google's buggy os. Google, it's not our fault that you guy's don't care about the the bugs in your os, or the defective hardware in your flagship device. You guy's got slapped with Sam$ung's crappy hardware, and we have to pay for it, I bet that they already knew about all the trouble we all was going to go threw even before the the device hit Best Buy. Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care!
Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care! Google do not care!
|jalyn2002||3/12/11 1:54 PM|
GOOGLE PLEASE TAKE A LOOK @ THIS AND TELL ME IF THIS IS YOUR DAY TO DAY DRIVER? CAUSE IT'S NOT FOR ME
|jalyn2002||3/14/11 8:41 PM|
I know Google is happy that this thread is slowing dieing, But I will not stop until...
|maxib||3/15/11 11:05 AM|
@jalyn2002 - count me in too, mate. I don't think we should let this drop - get the post count higher. I continue to be annoyed every day I look at this phone. It's made worse because I can see my wife's screen everyday (no OTA for her yet and even if it came....as if!) and I compare it to mine - the right words to describe it would probably be censored by a moderator. Mind you, if there are moderators, why haven't any of them responded? Come on google I'm fed up with this silence - just let us know what the hell is going on - do I wait a month or two (I could manage this if I knew this was the case) or just ditch this ugly sickly looking phone?
|jalyn2002||3/15/11 1:13 PM|
@maxib, same here, but I'm looking at my wife phone which is a Samsung Vibrant, and her Super Amoled display blows the Nexus S out of the box! Funny how she used to get upset when she saw the Nexus S display, and she said I'm a lucky guy to not get the Vibrant, and that I waited it out for the Nexus S because of how the colors stand out so well on the Nexus S. I showed her the screen after the 2.3.3 and she said "what the hell did you do to the phone?" I replied, It was not me who pissed on the screen, it was Google. I AM NOT HAPPY @ ALL WITH THIS NEW COLOR CHANGE. HOW HARD IS IT TO THROW IN A OPTIONAL APP? HUH GOOGLE? HOW HARD? OR IS THAT WE ALL ARE NOT IMPORTANT? PLEASE I WILL GO AWAY IF YOU JUST GIVE US THE WORD YES! OR NO! THAT"S IT.
|Jeff Petersen||3/15/11 1:41 PM|
I think the color looks much better after the update, it was way too hyped originally. I bet you complainers don't calibrate your TVs either. You must like having your eyes seared by the bright colors.
|maxib||3/15/11 1:56 PM|
Rubbish. TV and mobile phone are completely different things, how on earth should we compare properly calibrating a 46" flatscreen for correct colours when watching films, documentaries etc with "true representation" colours on a small phone screen?! The tv screen serves a different purpose entirely. I liked the phone precisely because of its stand out colours and oddly enough it was the one stand out feature that ALL reviewers raved about for this phone and the galaxy s. Doesn't mean I have my tv set to extra vivid (I don't, it was the first thing I changed)- but it serves a different function.
Besides, that's not the point. The point is that this has been forced on us, whether we like it or not. There is no option to set it as you want it. If truly realistic colours are what you really want from a mobile phone, then that's great for you. What if you don't? What if the wow factor your screen had before (you know, the one where everyone goggled at it and said how much better it was that the iphone etc) was important? The whole point of android over iphone is the freedom of choice. Not what steve jobs wants but what WE want. Google has shot itself here by going back on its true selling point and following the apple route by dictating. GIVE US THE CHOICE!!
Now I'm ranting...Oh dear
|duanev||3/15/11 3:45 PM|
When I first got my Nexus S (in December) I noticed that the colors were indeed off (redish grays like Ry mentioned). Comparing it to a Vibrant the difference was stark and I was very disappointed. If this update fixes that then I'll be happy (but I still haven't got the 2.3.3 update yet to compare).
|MarkatPhoneFix||3/15/11 4:05 PM|
Since there doesn't seem to be an answer coming from Google ... maybe we can get Samsung to help us out.
What if we all called them and did a live chat session about the issue?
I did both today and did not get a positive answer, but maybe lots of folks calling and messaging could get them to move.
Contact link is http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/GT-I9020T.It couldn't hurt, right?
As always, I'm collecting info at http://blog.phonefix.org/ if you want to pile on.
|raver27||3/15/11 5:02 PM|
I have not heard of anyone getting the ota lately, maybe Google stopped pushing the update...don't really know cause Google ain't said nada...
|jalyn2002||3/15/11 5:45 PM|
@maxib, Exactly...Well said.
|jalyn2002||3/15/11 6:20 PM|
The new colors looks like a mustard color. If you think that this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5IIxMlRdnQ Looks better then the 2.3.2 color then, that's your decision. I don't like the new color, and many of other people agree with me. So Google lets get it back to 2.3.2 color please!
To the people that are trolling this thread. I, or many of other people did not say change the color to 2.3.2 and leave the people who like this new color that comes with 2.3.3 out for dead. We said to make a app/ota for a optional way to change between 2.3.2 or 2.3.3 colors. We are being as polite as polite gets off the back, unlike you guy's that say keep the color. It's just not FAIR!
|jalyn2002||3/17/11 12:12 PM|
Hello everyone, I am going to sell my Nexus S, and with the money I collect from selling it I'm going to buy me a Iphone 4. So, I will not be a android fan boy anymore, I'll be a happy Apple customer. I will not be posting anymore Android threads, and to the people who help get Ry Guy to talk a little... thank-you so much! Wish me luck on my new smart phone future with Apple.
TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO BUY A ANDROID DEVICE HAZARDS! ARE AHEAD, AND WAIT AT-LEAST A MONTH, AND SEARCH FOR ISSUES ON THE ANDROID DEVICE BEFORE PURCHASING IT, BECAUSE THERE WAS ALWAYS A PROBLEM WITH MY SAMSUNG VIBRANT, GPS ISSUES/ HTC MYTOUCH 3G, LAG OF DEATH/ NEXUS S, REBOOTING DURING IMPORTANT PHONE CALLS/ HTC EVO, BATTERY DRAINAGE/ T-MOBILE G2 BROKEN HINGE, AND ANDROID FRAGMENTATION GROWS BIGGER EVERYDAY. HOW DUMB I WAS TO EVER PUT SO MUCH INTO ANDROID. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY WITH A ANDROID DEVICE, I'M GOING WHERE THE GRASS IS GREENER, AND THAT WILL BE WHERE ONLY ONE APPLE GROWS ON ONE BIG TREE; WITH NO FRAGMENTATION...APPLE!
|maxib||3/17/11 12:23 PM|
Sorry to see you go, Jayln - who else is going to help keep this thread alive and kicking for the benefit of the elusive google techs? Understand your frustration though and I think Google should take heed of this and see that they are doing themselves no favour by their silence. All we want is an honest answer - even if that answer is that they are not going to do anything about it - at least people would know. I was just wondering today how many of the phones in the shops are going to be sporting the 2.3.3 screens - given that so much of a "first impression" is given by the look of the device and that is what drew so many to the nexus, can't see this doing anything but damage to that marketing tool that they had already sewn up with their original colours and contrast.
Anyway, all the best mate and good luck with the apple!
|jalyn2002||3/17/11 12:54 PM|
@maxib - Thank you. You are great at understanding a issue on all levels, and yeah, I made up my mind on this one after a long three years of nothing, but issues with Google's Android devices/ Android Os's. I would love for you to follow me on YouTube; yeah, Google again...Lol...@ http://www.youtube.com/user/2002Killzone?feature=mhum send me a friend request, I look forward to discussing future devices; I'm always into new gadgets...
|maxib||3/17/11 1:10 PM|
@jalyn2002: Yeah, will do. Hey, you never know, might be joining you with apple if google don't make some sort of a response soon!
|jalyn2002||3/17/11 1:17 PM|
@maxib- "might be joining you with apple if google don't make some sort of a response soon!" Yeah, hope to see you, and many of others SOON!
|Colourfielding||3/17/11 7:29 PM|
Well I dipped my toe in the Android market and i must say I'm not impressed with the customer service or the lack there of. Not a peep from Google concerning this page or our concerns. I will be getting out of my T-mobile contract if I can and be getting rid of this brick. I also NOT be purchasing my employees Android phones as planned. Sure 20 phones may not mean that much to Google in the big scheme of things but I'm sure the people at the Mac store and ATT will be happy to take my money. Live and learn I guess. Good luck to all that don't have the options I have available to me.
|alanudi||3/18/11 8:17 AM|
Yeah I don't know who you've been talking to, but there was no problem before, and now there is. Maybe you should consider going back, we never noticed any problems before, but now all the colors are ugly as crap.
|maxib||3/18/11 1:29 PM|
Hope Google are checking the temperature of this thread and its users - this ridiculous silence is actually starting to turn current users away towards apple, let alone the potential customers who will be reading up on this. All we want is some response from a Google tech. Where is this Ry Guy from the original post?
|jmsward||3/18/11 2:25 PM|
Having the same issues as mentioned and the battery statistics are all over the place. Not happy with the explanation either. Very unhappy )-:
|JPH3||3/18/11 2:37 PM|
I'm noticing some battery drain as well. I need to top off 2x a day now to make it thru.
|Parttimer||3/19/11 10:26 AM|
With regards to the battery try calibrating phone by letting it discharge fully, then do a full charge, and then do another full discharge. Now charge it up and see how it goes.
|kumaraswi||3/20/11 6:14 AM|
I'm really upset with this phone ! I'm tired of this Random signal loss & Now I'm facing issues with WIFI as well.. When ever the phone is idle, It automatically uses EDGE connection, rather than using WIFI.. It's starts using WIFI only when I touch the screen and do something in my phone ! More over poor WIFI reception ! What was in Google's mind when they launched this phone ? To upset millions of people ? This is my first Android smartphone, I had to wait for a long (Financial factor) before I could grab my Nexus S and the result is HUGE disappointment ! I'm Upset to the core ! I know U (Google) are never going to reply to my post ! More over I'm still stuck in 2.3.1 with no OTA as well ! Now even If I get, I'm afraid to update due to this SCREEN COLOR issue ! Now for GOD sake please do something to FIX all these bugs ! Come on U people can do it !
|sibidominic||3/20/11 6:17 AM|
@above : tat might be because u might have ticked on the option to idle the wifi when the screen is turned off...
goto -> wireless and network settings -> wifi settings -> click the options button and select 'Advanced'..
select the wifi sleep policy and select 'never when plugged in'
|kumaraswi||3/20/11 10:22 PM|
@sibi Thanks a lot.. That was really helpful ! :)
|jmsward||3/21/11 2:20 AM|
I now want to say to be fair to Google that now after a few days use the screen colour issue is not as bad as I first thought. I'm not sure if this is just because my eyes have re adjusted! I do now agree that the over all screen colour over all brightness levels is slightly more faithful. With regards to the battery statistics I'm going to keep monitoring it. I have done several charge and discharge cycles and its still 'choppy'.
|maxib||3/21/11 9:09 AM|
@jmsward - my problem is that I always see my wife's 2.3.2 phone every day and the screen difference between hers and my 2.3.3 is night and day. So much sharper and the colours are so much punchier. The new colours on my phone are so washed out in comparison and the contrast is just pure lame. Come on Google, still no word??
|Andy.castro85||3/21/11 9:14 AM|
Yesterday I noticed that when I pulled the notification bar down, I was able to see the keyboard as if it were "burned into" the screen. Can you guys check to see if you have the same problem? It would probably be easier to see if you checked in a low-light setting.
...I am one of the unfortunate ones running 2.3.3 as well :-/
|Parttimer||3/21/11 1:33 PM|
From reading on the net it seems like Google are rushing to get 2.4 (Ice Cream) out and 2.3 will be replaced. When you think about no manufactures seem to be bringing out Gingerbread phones.
|converter42||3/21/11 1:46 PM|
Gingerbread was definitely not ready for prime time. I only hope Google's silence means the developers have their heads buried in a major rewrite that will actually get some QA testing before it ships. If Google puts another crapfest like Gingerbread on one of my phones I'm switching everybody to iPhone (shudder).
|maxib||3/21/11 2:01 PM|
@Andy.castro85 - checked my screen and I can only see it if the keyboard is open underneath. The effect is stronger if the keyboard's been open a while, but then disappears after a few seconds. I wonder if this means screen burn?
@Parttimer and converter42, let's bloody hope so. I want my show-off phone back again! It would be nice if one of those developers working hard on restoring our faith in them could spare just a few seconds to let us know. It's called reassurance, Google! Come on, tell us the good news
|alanudi||3/22/11 11:35 AM|
@kumaraswi Wifi Fix:
Go to settings, turn off "Wifi Sleep Policy"
Look it up to find out how. RTFM next time...
|JPH3||3/22/11 8:57 PM|
There is no way I'm letting this slip off the front page.
|JPH3||3/23/11 12:16 PM|
Now that it's out the Sprint NS 4G will release with version 2.3.4, I wonder if the screen will still be puke yellow.
|maxib||3/23/11 12:27 PM|
@alanudi, I have RTFM and this doesn't work for my phone. I still get the 3G sign intermittently with the arrows too whether the wifi is set to sleep or not. For some reason I appear to have ALL the 2.3.3 bugs together, this one included.
Any other helpful suggestions anybody? Google?
|JPH3||3/23/11 12:30 PM|
I have that bug too as well as all of the others. When I'm on wifi, the 3g icon pops up every few seconds. There's another thread here covering it. At least Google acknowledged that thread and are looking into it.
|maxib||3/24/11 12:29 PM|
Any news on the 2.3.4 you mentioned JPH3? Someone in another thread I think was talking about "ice Cream" being the new version. Taking the mick or is this a real one? List of things to fix: yellow screen, wifi/3G, screwed up compass, battery life, dodgy GPS (don't know if this is related to the compass issue), usb docking says Turn off all the time. This would do for a start. Back on the front page with well over 300+ posts - any answers for us, your customers, Google?
|JPH3||3/24/11 12:38 PM|
I think Ice Cream Sandwich will be the next major version, perhaps something more along the lines of 2.4?
Still have no idea what 2.3.4 contains, but it is shipping with the Sprint NS.
|maxib||3/24/11 12:47 PM|
Oh wow. Didn't realise there was actually a 2.3.4. This available a couple of weeks after they roll out 2.3.3?? I don't get it. Is it a rushed fix to 2.3.3 or what? And if yes, I want it - yesterday
|Parttimer||3/27/11 11:34 AM|
By the sound of things 2.4 should be out June or May be as early as April according to some sites.
@ maxib. Apart from the colour change with 2.3.3 I get non of the issues you seem to be having. It may be you have a faulty phone.
If you have wifi and 3G on you will get the 3G icon on any time no wifi is connected, like when waking the phone up and the wifi was asleep until the wifi connects. Battery life is usally down to apps/system apps running when the phone is in standby etc. Try an app like Fast |Reboot and see if it helps. I get about 40 hours with moderate use. The Usb docking message is a warning that if use your phone like a flash drive any Apps currently using the SD storage area may have problems so it warns you before turning of the internal storage to the phone.
|maxib||3/27/11 12:08 PM|
@Parttimer - Cheers for the advice mate. Have to say, I really don't think it's the phone that's faulty as before the update it was flawless, NONE of these problems at all. With the wifi, even when the wifi returns and is connected, the 3G sign pops up - even when I set the wifi to never sleep. As far as battery drain with apps - I hardly have any and, in fact, uninstalled two since the upgrade - so even fewer apps and poorer battery life. The USB thing is about the little button at the bottom of the screen - when you usually connect, you press this (Switch USB on) and then the button changes to switch off, to disconnect. Now the button says the same thing whether you are connected or not! OK, I can tell whether I have the usb still mounted or not by the colour (orange if connected, green if not), but it was a bit confusing - I'm the type who always safely ejects his usb rather than straight pulling after a bad experience losing years of work!
These aren't only issues for me, but for many others too and Google NEEDS to acknowledge and, preferably, apologise for this ridiculous silence. It shows complete contempt for its customers and has already caused such irritation that they have started to leave. Come on, a little one-liner from a Google rep isn't too much to ask for!
|maxib||3/27/11 12:08 PM|
Bring on 2.4. IT can't be any worse than 2.3.3!
|maxib||3/27/11 12:11 PM|
Or could it?
|Parttimer||3/27/11 12:37 PM|
@maxib. Couldn't agree more about googles silence on their own forums, its unbelievable that a company the size of google dont at comment on these things on a regular basis.
With battery life, I found the standard browser seemed to be part of the problem, after all it never closes. I know use one called Miren Browser which seems better and you have the option to exit the app and clear cache when finished.
|maxib||3/27/11 1:47 PM|
@Parttimer, thanks, I'll check out that browser! At least we dissatisfied customers can get some help from each other as opposd to waiting for google to take care of us!
|JPH3||3/29/11 12:47 PM|
If you haven't noticed, they are only silent on this thread. I am also monitoring other threads in which Google employees are actively participating (e.g. No GPS lock issue).
|maxib||3/30/11 11:49 AM|
Funny, I sent a reply to this last night. Where's it gone? Let's try again. I think there are responses (few and far between, mind) on the other issues as those are clear bugs that need fixing. This, however, is a clear and deliberate change made by Google, not a bug. That they thought it was a good idea is not the issue - some people might like the "more natural" colours, but I think the general uproar should be proof that the general user would want the OPTION to have the original colour temperature back should they so choose. I think it's ludicrous that Google would not, at the very least, acknowledge the opnions of its customers and let us know what, if anything, they are planning to do. I know that would involve them admitting that they might have misread the wishes of their customers...
|JPH3||3/30/11 1:09 PM|
I agree 100% maxib. I still wretch uncontrollably every time I have to look at my phone. Puke yellow with all the icons blurred and bleeding. It may look fine for some people, but there is no question that I have a phone that was ruined by this "improvement."
Even with all the bugs and issues, I'd still rather have a broken Android than a working iPhone, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit the NS has been a test of patience for me.
|MarkatPhoneFix||3/31/11 12:09 PM|
I finally gave up waiting for a fix and rooted my phone. (http://blog.phonefix.org/)
I am not a hacker of phones by nature and only the frustration of the awful colors, faded screen and low brightness drove me to risk ruining my phone.
After messing with various ROMs, I went back to stock 2.3.1 and have returned to my happy place. My phone looks great and runs like a champ.
Rooting is not easy (and I had at least two missing steps for my system) and can cause serious problems ... and a scare or two along the way. I am not suggesting this is a reasonable solution for most folks ... not even for me if my phone didn't look so awful.
I doubt I will ever upgrade again with an OTA update and will miss out on lots of new features, but maybe a fix will come along the way ... or a great new ROM with 2.3.1 colors.
Always a strong Android supporter, I now understand the attraction of Apple and its closed system. If every iPhone looked like my Nexus S after an iOS update, there would be much complaining and it would get fixed.
|maxib||3/31/11 12:38 PM|
Well done, mate. I would love to root my phone if only to fix this issue, but have no idea about these things and am worried about messing the thing up. The simple fact is that you shouldn't have to worry about this to solve the problem, all we need is to be given an option. I chose not to go the apple route mainly on the understanding that android was a platform which gave all its users CHOICE. So far, I feel seriously let down and am beginning to wonder if I shouldn't be eating my words about apple...
|MarkatPhoneFix||3/31/11 12:46 PM|
I agree ... one should not have to root to get back to what we bought in the first place.
And I was definitely worried about messing up my phone.
|darkanett||3/31/11 1:32 PM|
Yeah, I'm looking at others smartphones, even Samsung and HTC, and colours are much more beautiful than onmy Nexus S. I'm sad and hoping Google with fix it very quickly!!!
|Naibu||4/1/11 12:13 AM|
Google may be you create user function to change color scheme ?
|Naibu||4/1/11 12:14 AM|
So the user can choose what he likes
|john3||4/1/11 10:33 AM|
Frankly I don't care a whit about the color issue! I WANT MY OTA UPDATE!!!
|converter42||4/1/11 10:42 AM|
@john3 just google up the link to the update package and the how-to and install it manually. For all we know google has pulled the plug on the OTA (not saying they have pulled the plug, but it seems like a lot of folks are complaining that they haven't received it and I haven't seen comments from anyone claiming to have received it in weeks).
|Anthony44||4/1/11 10:48 AM|
Yes it seems google has pulled the plug perhaps more reason to wait obviously something is wrong. I know three people who purchased this phone last week and it hasn't updated past 2.3.1 all are working fine.
I sent mine to Samsung for repair couldn't stand the data connection issues. The phone was sent out with 2.3.2 and came back with 2.3.1 and so far I have no issues.
I can only assume Google has software issues from 2.3.2 and on
|Anthony44||4/1/11 10:52 AM|
Sorry forgot to mention samsungs findings. The phone passed all test software reinstalled. I guess we can all draw conclusions from that.
I am in no rush for any ota right now obviously Google can't seem to fix these issues right now
|maxib||4/1/11 11:26 AM|
@john3 - seriously, mate: you don't...
|jm france||4/6/11 1:59 PM|
actually I just have in hand a nexus S from the carephonehouse UK, and the nexus is already with the 2.3.3 version, and there are nothing wrong with the colour, the white is white and the colour are very good, however I could not check the 3G WIFI issue yet but the phone on 3G works great very fast ECT...
|maxib||4/7/11 11:35 AM|
@jm france - it looks white to you because you haven't compared it to 2.3.2. Trust me, I compare the two every day and the difference is very noticable. 2.3.2 whites look sharp, bright and text on it is very clear. Colours are punchy and jump out at you - a bit like the LED tvs set onto vivid mode. 2.3.3 in comparison - the whites just look sickly. There is a definite yellow tinge there (you may not notice it if it's all you've seen) and even the greens (like the battery, signal indicators at top) are just ill-looking. Yellowy look to them and colours in general not vivid. It may well be a warmer tone as google say, but it's crap in comparison to what the screen can (and did) do.
Please, Google - we just want the option to change it!
|jalyn2002||4/12/11 1:20 AM|
Okay okay I'm back...I have my Ipone 4, and love it, but I did not sell my Nexus S because I did not feel like it. Hello friends, how are you all? Still not a word; but one, from Google I am not going to sit here everyday and watch this dumb ugly screen, and not say a word again. Google I need you guy's to stop being kids on this subject. I, or we are real people that supported your company. Please don't put us on the back burner to burn because as a end result, I or we will not buy your future products. I am sold by using I phone's Os and I don't have one problem as of yet! the reason why I am still complaining is because I am stuck this dumb issue and I want you all to do your jobs and fix this fast. I will be here until my fingers fall off...Lol.
|maxib||4/12/11 8:52 AM|
@Jalyn - good to have you back again mate! Yeah we're all still here - still no reponse from anyone at google. To tell you how tragic this is, I actually got excited when a google rep posted a reply to one of the other threads on the accelerometer problem with 2.3.3 - how sad is that?! And how bad is that for a company like google that it's lack of response to its customers drives them to this?
Glad you're enjoying the iphone - can't say that I haven't been tempted myself to just chuck the whole thing in and go over to apple. People on here are saying that the next update is due May/June - don't know where that info comes from and google still not offering any answer.
Glad you're back to help keep this thread on the front page!
|jalyn2002||4/12/11 11:26 AM|
@maxib - Happy to have your welcome back. So what do we all do about Google not treating us like people, but a brick wall. just keep writing and writing about your feelings towards this issue. I am starting a website soon; very soon! about so many things, but my main topic is about company's like Google who are to big to be wrong, or at fault on any matter of a fact. When you buy something and it's being pushed so fast for business reasons you will most likely have more issues/problems/ and more anger towards that company, but will soon find your-self in the near future buying another product from same company over and over again. The more we let this go on the more big company's like Google will practice this for better business efforts to treat the people like dirt and treat there pockets like gold. All I'm trying to say is, GOOGLE I AM WORKING HARD UNLIKE YOU TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED!!!
|jalyn2002||4/12/11 11:39 AM|
What about calling them on high demand?
|l2ich||4/14/11 11:05 AM|
I'm running 2.3.3 on both my Nexus One and my Nexus S. I did not notice a change in the colors/screen when the Nexus One was upgraded to 2.3.3, and it looks great now. But the Nexus S looks terrible right now. Colors are muted and white/grey/blacks are too soft. I have to squint. It looks like an old TFT screen from 5 years ago. I am not happy with the Nexus S...
|jalyn2002||4/14/11 1:48 PM|
@l2ich- Because, it seems that when they were working on the colors in the nexus one they ported the same colors over to the nexus s. The problem is that, I as well have a nexus one with 2.3.3 on it, and the colors look great! for a lcd screen but, when you try to port the same colors for a lcd display to a super amoled display it's not going to look as good as it looks on a lcd because the colors was made for the lcd and not for a super amoled display.
|glon||4/14/11 3:18 PM|
Sold my Nexus S and edited wikipedia to help people be aware of the 2.3.3 problem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_S
|jalyn2002||4/14/11 6:47 PM|
@glon- I did't sell my Nexus S; it's not that it's a bad phone, it's just under bad construction...GOOGLE LET"S GET THE OLD COLORS BACK PLEASE!!!
|d3x0r||4/15/11 7:08 AM|
'slight change'? this is soooo washed out - I appreciated the sharp contast on 2.3.2, this 2.3.3 looks HORRIBLE, and surely with all these brighter pixels uses that much more power. Please provide gamma controls so we can adjust it oursevles. I had no problem with purples or yellows, but now everything is just generally brighter making it washed out. I would appreciate control of the phone (dialer) background, because I thought it was too bright before, and wanted it more black, but now it's a glaring grey - totally the opposite direction.
I love how black blacks are, and think that most applications like mail should get their colors inversed.
Like this page here, black on white is horrible to read! This IS NOT PAPER! It's not a matter of reflected light, it's generated light, therefore text lit is easier to pick up than text unlit. It takes work to focus out through all this white, and no, my eyes are not that bad... that I can distinguish between your 50% grey compared to the 10% grey it used to be should attest to that. SLIGHT CHANGE!?
I know, this addtional rant on thousands prior will be of no effect, but at least I got to put out my 10 cents worth.
|lilian04||4/15/11 7:36 PM|
I manually upload 2.3.3 - same problem, there colours looked faded.
How can I get back to 2.3.2? Any idea how to do it?
|TonyD23||4/17/11 4:53 AM|
Extremely disappointed with this move. I always liked Google, but this is a really lame decision. Why the hell didn't they at least give us an option. Thankfully, I'm still under warranty and am returning the Nexus S and going back to my Nexus One. I have the Nexus One next to my Nexus S and the screen quality is worlds better. What bone head thought this was a good switch?
I'm not going through rooting my phone because Google pulled an Apple move.
|Colourfielding||4/19/11 9:10 PM|
The rumor is that Honeycomb 3.0 is soon to be available for this phone. Anyone hear anything? I hope that they may have fixed the color problem with this update. I still have hope to keep this phone so i'm waiting for the next update to see if anything is done about our concerns.
|Parttimer||4/20/11 1:18 AM|
From what I have read 3.## will be for tablets but Google are rumoured to be releasing 2.4 for the nexus S this month to allow dual core apps to work on the phone.
|Anthony44||4/20/11 2:06 AM|
All these are rumors Google releases 2.4 etc. I will give one fact Google screwed up this one.
|maxib||4/20/11 2:44 AM|
Yes, it would be nice to hear something official from google rather than having to rely on rumours. Don't think it's too much to ask...
|oscillik||4/21/11 1:45 AM|
@HMawlawi - no we are not wrong. it has already been stated numerous times that the Nexus S has shipped with various different screens, which means that some people are being negatively affected by the gamma/colour temp changes and some people aren't.
|HMawlawi||4/21/11 1:47 AM|
Guys I just updated manually, most of u are right the brightness is lower and bad on auto, but most of u are wrong the color warmth is more accurate, pictures are more real overral ,in 2.3.2 thecolors were "popping out" that's why it looked pretty but definitely not more accurate
Please lemme know if u agree I'm so surprised u guys hate it so much... the black levels are still as sexy and some nice effects (transparency while shutting down) were added Plz reply I hope I'm convincing lol
|maxib||4/21/11 11:39 AM|
@HMawlawi - sorry to say I can't agree with what you're saying. The new colours make things look yellowy compared to what they were previously (I compare the two side by side) and as for the more realistic picture - well, most of us bought the phone precisely because we LOVED the "popping out" effect as you put it. It's what gave the phone a wow factor which we could be proud of showing off to our mates (those with iphones in particular). If I want more realistic, I'll watch my properly calibrated widescreen at home, thank you very much, Google!
And not sure about those black levels either. On the screen lock where you slide a pattern between the dots, the rings around the dots on 2.3.2 are black, in 2.3.3 they are grey. Very grey. Not too bad on other screens I suppose, but it's the other colours and contrast that really annoy.
And what's this transparency thing on shut down? I don't see anything different?
I guess what we're all saying is, fine if you like the new colours, but at least give us the choice - isn't that the whole point of Android over iphone?
|aqarub||4/22/11 12:57 PM|
I recently updated to 2.3.3 and I have to say, after about a week of use, I like the new color tones much better than the old.
Initially I had the same reaction (noticing the yellowish tint when compared to 2.3.1). My wife has 2.3.1 and I compared the two right away and can easily notice the difference. However, 2.3.3 is much softer on my eyes for everything, and I read Kindle Books & RSS feeds a lot so this is a huge help. The brightness is just right for low-light reading now as well, and comparing my wife's phone to mine, 2.3.3 really does give a more realistic color spread to images. Now when I look at my wife's phone, my eyes feel strained much more quickly than with the new colors. Also, I really like the new grey's. The old grey's where much too dark, and the blaring red tones that came from the grey at low-light definitely made me feel there was some display problem that needed to be remedied. After adjusting to the new color tones, I really don't see any yellow tint...on the contrary, when I look at the old white rendering it looks blue and purple in its tones, similar to an over saturated screen with the gamma/contrast tuned up way too high.
Obviously with so many people still liking the old colors (my wife included), it would do the Android team good to open up the gamma/contrast settings to users through the next Android update.
If Android makes a permanent shift back to the old over saturated settings, I personally would be very disappointed.
|JPH3||4/22/11 1:15 PM|
That's the whole point of this thread. Google took complaints from the anti-vivid section and made a system wide change without any end user choice. All this served to accomplish was recreate the EXACT same problem, except now it's the pro-vivid crowd that's up in arms.
This is beside the point that it may be acceptable to you, but our individual phones do vary to a degree. If you saw my phone, you would understand. Washed out colors, blurry images/icons, and heavily banded gradients. If my colors were warmed, but the resolution was still sharp, perhaps I could get used to it. As it is now, my eyes fatigue quickly from straining to make out text and images.
|aqarub||4/22/11 3:15 PM|
It sounds like you have more than just an issue with the update...maybe some corruption in the firmware or a hardware display problem. If you are seeing blurry images/icons I'd send in for repair. When I installed the 2.3.3 I did it from a factor reset state to be sure the update didn't snag on any issues from previous downloads or tweaks...maybe you could give that a shot and it'll clear up your problem.
|KEViN恺||4/25/11 6:43 AM|
It is said that western people with blue eyes see the screen is much blueish, so the screen should be warmer to fit blue eyes .
but Asian people with black eyes they prefer cold/blueish high temperature screen.
I dont know if thats true.
|oscillik||4/25/11 6:45 AM|
@KEViN恺 - that is complete and utter balderdash.
|soyatti||4/25/11 8:53 AM|
@KEViN恺 - a good theory. it supports the idea that google should let us select colour temperature.
|JPH3||4/25/11 9:00 AM|
It's now two months since this post was made and still nothing from Google. Pretty sad. Was really looking forward to a tablet and Chrome notebook, but I'm not sure I can handle two more half baked, poorly supported devices in my life.
|aqarub||4/25/11 11:14 AM|
RyGuy from Google replied right away:
With your new OTA complete, you may notice a slight difference in the way colors are displayed on your Nexus S. For Nexus S, we have adjusted the color temperature settings to more accurately reflect darker colors at all brightness levels. The Gingerbread UI being darker, we found that the colors were not as accurate when the device was being used at lower brightness levels. For example, some users reported that the initial color temperature was too high leading to some darker greys having a reddish tone; with the new color temperature this is no longer the case.
|maxib||4/26/11 1:54 PM|
@Ry Guy - thanks for letting us know google are actually watching this thread, but you haven't addressed the concerns of the vast majority of the posters: WE DON'T LIKE IT!!! What is the word on giving us some sort of OPTION to go back to the colours which you say were less accurate, but which we all LOVED!!!
We all know the supposed reason you made the change and it was probably all with the best of intentions, but now that you can see the level of frustration it is causing your customers, please don't ignore this issue in your next update/upgrade and just give us users the choice.
|JPH3||4/26/11 2:02 PM|
Thank you, but I am well aware of Ry Guys reply. If you noticed, Ry Guy replied the day after the initial post. Since then there have been numerous posts expressing disappointment with the intentional color change. By now, it should be clear to Google that they can't win either way. The only solution is to offer their customers a way to choose our own colors. Then you and the warm crowd can stay warm, the rest of us can go back to being cold and blue.
|KEViN恺||4/26/11 2:05 PM|
lets wait for the upcoming Google IO 2011 and hope theres an update for our NS
|maxib||4/26/11 2:13 PM|
Oh dear and there was me thinking Ry Guy was making his answer again, instead of just being quoted by someone else. Dont I feel daft. So back to square 1 - as JPH3 rightly said: still no response, no sign just speculation amongst disappointed users. Where are you Ry Guy??
|James Smith777||4/27/11 12:23 PM|
I still haven't received the 2.3.3 OTA yet, but after reading about this issue and others like disfunctional back button i think will pass on this till a fix is released. BTW i haven't experienced much problems like call cuts on the previous version but some application crashes.
|jalyn2002||4/27/11 7:32 PM|
@KEViN恺- Hope, lol...let's not hope on something we all paid hard*core cash for in the beginning. I will not settle for hope on a new Android OS because of something so small we are asking Google to do. I or we are just asking Google to give us a option to change the colors of the Nexus S, is that so big of a deal? No! Google is just being Mr. Big Headed on this subject, plus I just had another issue that I think we all are dealing with and that will be the back button that turns into the multitasking button and the only way to fix it is to put the display to sleep, WiFi issues, the list goes on and on. So, let's no hope on something we already paid for.
|jalyn2002||4/27/11 7:38 PM|
I'm so happy that this threads not going to sleep because, people Google just spit in the hands that feeds them...Thanks Guy's for the hard work, dealing with Google.
|denis_y_s||4/28/11 10:17 AM|
The new Samsung Galaxy S II has a special software installed from the manufacturer to control the color situation of the AMOLED screen! I am quoting from the review on Engadget website - "a software setting called Background effect allows you to tweak saturation, so if you're feeling a little melancholy, you can tone down the intensity of your handset's colors to match your ennui." You can read the full story here http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/
Why Google don't want to do the same for the Nexus S ?!? It will make everyone happy!!
|jalyn2002||4/28/11 9:14 PM|
@denis_y_s- Because, Google don't care about US! I will never love Google again if they don't fix this issue. The next Google flagship phone should be called, the Nexus-Google don't care about you when you spend your money on a brick device...HUH!!!
|maxib||4/29/11 2:43 AM|
No mention of addressing this concern in 2.3.4 yet and a bit suspect that we were not given the nod to this update (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=3812c1acf93b482f&hl=en) in this thread. I'm hoping it is addressed in this upgrade - if not, I think that's a definitive sign from Google about how seriously (not) theytake thier customers. Feeling a bit disappointed...
Google, any news on this issue for us?
|KEViN恺||4/29/11 8:54 AM|
guys on XDA say that its kind of greyish with 2.3.4, any evidence?
|JPH3||4/29/11 12:52 PM|
Still looks exactly the same to me.
|BuilderMan||4/29/11 8:02 PM|
I did update to 2.3.4 today ... and it didn't fix this problem, I'm very upset... crap!!!
|BuilderMan||4/29/11 8:08 PM|
|supercurio||4/30/11 10:14 AM|
Source code confirm what we saw, 2.3.4 changes absolutely nothing about Super AMOLED colors.
|maxib||4/30/11 11:14 AM|
Great, nice job Google. Thanks for listening.
Is there any way an app could be made which won't involve us amateurs having to risk rooting our phone? Frankly, with my luck, I'd brick the phone just thinking about attempting it. Really upset that we are being treated like this.
|raver27||5/1/11 4:24 PM|
Smh,wow!Google really thinks they are in the right on this color change....Guess ill be staying on 2.3.2 indefinitely ......
|oscillik||5/1/11 4:26 PM|
i have just updated to 2.3.4 and can confirm that the yellow screen is still here
|raver27||5/1/11 4:34 PM|
That's lame,Google should really address this issue ......
|maxib||5/1/11 5:05 PM|
Come on Google, can't believe you would ignore your customers to this extent. So you think the colours are better - that's great. Just release a patch of some sorts that will allow us to have the option. It can't be that hard - I believe you have already the function prepared and written in to the galaxy 2: just get it out to us nexus s owners, after all we were the ones who were supposed to have everything first right?
|ronilse||5/2/11 2:09 AM|
I too see the washed out color on my new Nexus S with 2.3.4(was delivered with 2.3.3 some days ago & man updated to hopefully get gps to 2.3.4), really ugly compared to my old phone. Can't be that hard to have different color profile to different tastes if thats whats making this so hard to revert, now many details are blurred into a mess, not how a good screen should look like....
|kulasse143||5/2/11 8:54 AM|
Always this yellow tint in 2.3.4 the screen is too ugly
|JPH3||5/2/11 11:07 AM|
We don't even need a patch. A color adjustment market app seems like the easiest way for Google to address this issue.
|converter42||5/2/11 11:50 AM|
I doubt a market app can be given sufficient privileges to manipulate color profile configuration, otherwise we'd be overrun with color profile tuning apps already. Judging by comments I've read from developers, color profiles on AMOLED are a dark art, mayhaps android wants to keep users' fingers off those settings by default.
|JPH3||5/2/11 4:27 PM|
I was referring to a Google authored application, which would hopefully be able to acquire the permissions needed. But I could, and probably am, wrong.
Color control is not exactly unheard of to rooted users, or 3rd party developers. Voodoo Control is a Market app fully capable of adjusting colors. The big caveat, of course, is needing to flash the kernel.
|maxib||5/3/11 11:43 AM|
Well I guess now there should be a whole world of other people who never received the 2.3.3 update and will be going straight from 2.3.1/2.3.2 to 2.3.4 colours. Hopefully the increased numbers will mean more will start to complain, as the 400+ posts in this thread were obviously not enough for Google to pay attention or even acknowledge. Let's just hope they report on this thread - keep it on the front page guys!
|HMawlawi||5/3/11 1:38 PM|
When i first joined this thread I was amazed how many people actually hate the new colors, but now I'm convinced that Google has to do something to please all those nexus s users unhappy with the non-conscential action the took :)
|roquegil||5/3/11 2:15 PM|
Hello everyy body,
I've have two Nexus S, and the two had already Android v 2.3.3 when I bought them (since end of april 2011). However the mine has good color and good brigthness, but the other (of my wife) has exactly de problem described below (screen very dark, and with brigthness in auto is not usable).
The only difference is in the build number :
the mine : GRI54 (works good)
of my wife : GRI40 (having the problem)
So if it can be helpfull for everybody, I think the version 2.3.3 build GRI54 seems not having this problem. Does anybody knows how to upgrade to this version? How to get this version or update?
As I read in many messages, the version 2.3.4 seems not correct the problem.
Google, please help us to go back to a well display. The sreen of Nexus S is very very good, and have a good brigthness, it's unfortunate that we can use all this functions.
|Parttimer||5/3/11 3:35 PM|
I think GRI54 is the LCD version and GRI40 is the OLED version.
|_Hurricane_||5/3/11 7:22 PM|
could we flash the GRI54 on our AMOLED phones? I read somewhere that it was safe? and will it revert my colors
|Colourfielding||5/3/11 11:14 PM|
So I currently have the 2.3.4 update sitting on my phone waiting to be installed but after having the color issue after the last update I'm more than a bit hesitate to install it. Anyone have any opinions on if it's even worth doing it. On a related note...a big thanks to Google for taking our concerns to heart about the color issue. Good to hear you haven't created a fix for those of us that are stuck with this phone. You will be happy to know that I spent the money I would have given to you at the apple store when purchasing phones for my employees. Your silence does have consequences believe it or not.
|maxib||5/4/11 1:40 PM|
@Colourfielding, in same position as you: my wife's OTA has arrived, but she doesn't want to update to get the crappy colours like mine. Any idea how long the OTA will keep appearing or if there's a limited time you have? Would love for Google to at least let us know they are reading these posts and have an idea as to what they are going to do. Not one single reply after the first official response months ago: that's really poor and shows a complete lack of respect. Not surprised you have taken a lot of your custom to apple and I think unless google can sharpen up over this they are really going to start losing the respect and subsequently the custom of the current (and potential) users. Can't understand it, they could be on a real winner here...
@Ry-Guy, Paul or any Google rep: any news for us on this one?
|aqarub||5/4/11 2:04 PM|
Hey all...a few days ago I updated from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 on my Nexus S.
My wife just got the OTA and went right from 2.3.1 to 2.3.4. Now our colors are different. Her colors are cooler with a pink tinge to the greys and a brighter white (most noticeable in low-light). My colors are truer greys but yellower whites.
Here are the pictures (the 2.3.1 to 2.3.4 OTA is the one with the rubber case - the 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 manual is the other)
Google, what is going on here? Whey are the colors coming out different when we are both on GRJ22? Neither phone has been rooted or tampered with.
I have started a new support thread for this: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=4a47e3ae5f5a87fd&hl=en
|JPH3||5/4/11 2:11 PM|
Slight differences in manufacturing. I'm guessing that's why some people think it looks great, while others see a washed out, yellow screen. I'm also guessing the Google engineers that did the redesign possessed the former and not the latter in their lab.
|BuilderMan||5/4/11 2:15 PM|
|aqarub||5/4/11 2:28 PM|
I don't think the two different colors on both the 2.3.4 is due to a manufacturing difference. When we were both on 2.3.1 they were exactly the same. There is something going on in the update process.
1. Going from 2.3.1 to 2.3.4 creates a different color temperature than going from .2 or .3
2. There is some variable causing this difference by manually updating vs. receiving the OTA
|JPH3||5/4/11 2:32 PM|
Thanks for that. That's a surprising revelation for me. I always assumed it was different screens.
|aqarub||5/4/11 2:38 PM|
@JPH3 For sure.
I'd really like to hear from Google on this being that I documented it in the pictures, hence opening the new support thread.
The difference is very substantial in the whites and greys.
|KKTK12||5/4/11 2:39 PM|
I'm still on 2.3.1 in the US with Tmobile. No OTA or manual checkin for me yet.
Given all the issues with the color etc...I think I might wait a few more weeks to see if Google responds.
Personally, I dont think its coming.
So much for getting a phone because of its updates :(
|Colourfielding||5/4/11 7:55 PM|
Well I bit the bullet and went from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 just to be rid of the constant update notifications popping up. WOW what a difference. Even with all the fixes that most of us never complained about they still managed to keep my screen looking washed out and yellow. Way to go Google! Question ...since they don't seem to care about this 11 page thread has anyone had luck calling Google and get anywhere that way? I'm at that point now. I paid good money for a phone with an amazing screen that I no longer have. Can you say bait and switch?
|l2ich||5/4/11 8:29 PM|
I still don't understand why 2.3.3 on my Nexus One looks bright and colorful, while 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 looks washed out on my Nexus S. It is NOT because of AMOLED vs LCD ...because my Nexus S doesn't have AMOLED. My Nexus S is the i9023 model - the international version with a Super Clear LCD.
So Google is more or less saying: Super Clear LCD cannot display colors as vibrantly as a regular LCD that is a year behind in technology??? That makes no sense!
Ugh, this is so frustrating!
|KKTK12||5/4/11 10:49 PM|
So after staying on 2.3.1(because no OTA update came for my Tmobile Nexus S here in the US)....today I just got the OTA update to go directly to 2.3.4.
After reading the issues with the color scheme mainly---Im hesitant to do this.
Maybe staying at 2.3.1 a while longer might make more sense.
|raver27||5/5/11 3:16 AM|
Just got the ota this morning, And my display now looks absolutely. Horrible ....wtf???????? I new I shouldn't have updated.....Google fix this asap......
|raver27||5/5/11 1:06 PM|
Think I may take my phone to Bestbuy, thank goodness I got geeksquad protection on this thing,ill show them what GOOGLE did to my super amoled display.....
|raver27||5/5/11 4:25 PM|
Well it appears that I can't use any wallpapers with a dark background cause now they all look a dingy jungle green grey color..smh
|DaveDodd||5/5/11 8:32 PM|
I'm gonna keep going until google do something...SORT OUT THE SCREEN!!! People used to look at my Nexus S screen when it was on 2.3.1 and be amazed...now i keep it hidden away as i am ashamed to have such a disappointing peice of hardware!
|raver27||5/5/11 8:37 PM|
Yep me too...
|raver27||5/5/11 8:41 PM|
The screen is half the reason I bought this thing....
|raver27||5/6/11 1:54 PM|
I've noticed when the phone is off and charging the charging indicater is a bright white and when u boot up the Google logo goes from bright white to a ugly yellow,a never ending reminder of what Google screwed up...
|Paladin_Andrei||5/6/11 2:43 PM|
Whoever works on drivers @Google: If i want realistic colors, i look at the window. I have a 4' display that i want to have colors that jump at me when i look at it, just as i bought it. Maybe your color temp is great on a wall display, but that's not what i want. Let the photo freaks have their realistic displays, but let me have my vivid display of colors please.
|raver27||5/6/11 2:43 PM|
Couldn't agree more...
|MarkatPhoneFix||5/6/11 3:25 PM|
I would chime "Give me the colors that were there when I bought the phone!"
|Tone666||5/6/11 5:14 PM|
I have just updates and my screen is all yellowish also after the update from 2.3.2 ... spoke to trading standards today and they told me that the phone which was advertised and quoted of being "bright and vibrant" SAMOLED, which is no longer the case, could be deemed againts the trades description act!! (UK)
It could also be classed as "not fit for purpose" and "misleading advertising"
Apparently They have had quite a few complaints here in the UK about the issue and was told they and the office of fair trading might have to look into it further!!
Google might have the wrath of these official organisations breathing down their necks quite soon.
Dont get me wrong, i love the phone, I think they should give us the option to choose our own colour tones/gamma etc like cool natural and warm.. i think previously the phone was set to cool.. made the whites really white and the colours more vibrant.
|raver27||5/6/11 5:47 PM|
Thing is now that there releasing this update to the mass,the complaints are going to really ramp up...
|jalyn2002||5/6/11 9:26 PM|
|maxib||5/7/11 3:03 AM|
452 posts and rising. More and more comments on this issue in the 2.3.4 thread. Still no response (even when Mr Evan does reply on the other thread, this issue remains unacknowledged).
What's the deal Google? Now you have your customers getting trading standards and office of fair trade involved - just acknowledge the bloody issue! Enough with this pathetic silence. Talk about burying your head in the sand...
|Anthony44||5/7/11 3:08 AM|
My friend you are mistaken. Google acknowledged the issue long ago they just don't care and we are stuck.I just got ota yesterday for my wife's and its awful. I have mines out on repair third time for data issues.
I purchased that phone opening day after first update my phone can't keep a signal for one hour seriously.
Google has lost touch with us too big
|maxib||5/7/11 3:30 AM|
You're right, Anthony, they did acknowlege that they deliberatey changed it - what I'm looking for is an acknowledgement of the frustration and general user opinion of their choice since then - and this is becoming even more evident now that more people are getting this OTA than the 2.3.3 one.
I think you're also probably right that Google think we are too small fry for them. Perhaps they will only respond, then, to the bigger guns like fair trading.
This is such a shame. I bought google as I really bought into the whole people-choice thing. It's what seemed to put it on a different level to Apple. That I am finding this situation weeks after spending my money on google is very disappointing and the lack of response is only frustating and aggravating me and others.
Come on google - show us why we chose you in the first place, before you lose us all (and all those potential customers who will be doing their research reading these threads before choosing google/apple)!!
|Anthony44||5/7/11 3:41 AM|
Maxib well stated. The issue we will face is a lot of users that aren't into phones like we are may not care. The eyes will adjust in time and you will only be shocked when you see a super amoled in the raw.
The nexus s as it stands after 2.3.4 screen is sub par to the g2x.
I had my nexus set to automatic brightness and it was great.
I placed my wife's on full brightness and still its ruined.
Google why would you do this its supposed to be bright that's how we purchased it. We never would have bought it like
|maxib||5/7/11 4:55 AM|
Good point mate. They may well be playing on letting things blow over so that people just grow accustomed to it. Problem remains for those of us who see the screen as it used to be and should continue to be - my wife has the 2.3.4 update waiting but won't install it to have colours like mine - and for what? Video calling when nobody else has it and not even sure it works in the UK? No thanks.
It remains for us to keep this alive and start looking at bringing our complaints to different forums
|Anthony44||5/7/11 5:17 AM|
Well done on you're wife's part my wife said stop fussing. She may reflect the view of many and that's sad. I have mine out for repair 3rd time for data issues. Paul from Google finally said they are still working on this issuewhich Google announced back in February that 2.3.3 would fix.
I know now sending for repair is useless but its useless to me so ill play this game with Samsung over and over again.
I purchased a g2x which is truly awesome. I will keep it for a month then return it for refund then try the sensation.
I need a phone but really want my nexus s but it doesn't work for me perhaps Samsung will swap it for one that works.
The color situation should be a easy fix just put it back what gave them that right to change it boggles the mind.
I rate it with buying a car and the mechanic decides to dull the color because he thought it was too bright.
I purchased it that color for a reason. The phone side by side to the g2x before 2.3.4 was superior in color by far. I have them side by side and my wife said did her phone fall or something.
I said now you know why I'm pissed.
|raver27||5/7/11 7:20 AM|
Here's an email I just sent to my local news,its a part of there consumer right investigation team:) Ok here we go,back in February I bought a smartphone from Bestbuy "A Google nexus s" unlocked for $600.00,ok up until 2 days ago I loved my phone,but as of Friday 5/6/11 I received an ota update from Google and now my screen witch uses super amoled technology and was advertised as being bright and vibrant is now anything but that,the colors are washed out and it overall has a yellow tinge to it...There are numerous complaints online about this issue and Google and Samsung "who manufactured the device are mute on the problem any advice or help would be greatly appreciated,thanks in advance...
|Anthony44||5/7/11 7:25 AM|
Sweet hope u included link to forum
|raver27||5/7/11 7:26 AM|
I did along with my phone #
|raver27||5/7/11 7:32 AM|
Theres also a phone # to contact them by,but its the weekend so will also be calling them on Monday,this problem needs to be fixed,its a shame were having to push this hard...
|Anthony44||5/7/11 10:58 AM|
Good job hopefully we get some help
|Anthony44||5/7/11 11:02 AM|
Personally we should get our money back this isn't what we paid for. I for one would have passed on this phone if it looked like this when I tried it at best buy. I grabbed it then because the screen blew my nexus one away.I gladly would have passed if the screen was inferior like it is now.
|raver27||5/7/11 11:10 AM|
I totally agree,my T-Mobile g2 now has a more vibrant screen then this thing of a device, I have the geeksquad protection on it,not sure how much good that would do tho,and just to not "GOOGLE IM LOOKING AT YOU"since updating to 2.3.4 I have now had 3 random reboots and twice were this poor device froze and I had to pull the battery, so now I have totally disfunctional half baked phone,with the ugliest display I've ever looked at....damn....
|raver27||5/7/11 11:15 AM|
Oh yea while on 2.3.2 never had one issue,except every once in a while I lost data connection, I was happy and content ......
|Anthony44||5/7/11 11:34 AM|
@Raver27 I never had reboot issues on my nexus s. I had data loss to the point of no return. The phone lost data at least 10 times a day.I would go hours no calls no email no texes. I own my own business so that's highly unlikely. I stated earlier its out for repair at Samsung and I bought a g2x or lest say borrowed this puppy is going back.
The phone is really fast but just found out about an hour ago.
The phone at times reboots and at times is a dead dummy. I charged phone and it was off had to give it cpr to get it back on.
I mentioned that to say. Tmobile and LG has addressed this already and said were aware and on it.
T-Mobile offered a replacement unlike Samsung who to this day swears I'm the first person they heard with data issues.
|raver27||5/7/11 11:53 AM|
And there u nailed it this is the downfall of having a device by Google, there is no carrier to over see what's being brought to customers...We have Google witch is showing us they could care less about quality and dare I say just throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks ....Biggest mistake I made was thinking since there going to selling this thing at Bestbuy, that they would support this device a lil better then the n1,obviously I was wrong...I do hope enough complaints role in that it causes Samsung and Bestbuy and Sprint for that matter, to pressure Google to step it up...Remember Google in this world the customers always right...
|Anthony44||5/7/11 12:04 PM|
Google perhaps has forgotten the earlier days
|raver27||5/7/11 12:44 PM|
Obviously so....I've must of went through 100 or so wallpaper s last night trying to find one that looks half @zz decent on this thing...
|roquegil||5/7/11 2:01 PM|
IMPORTANT : my problem were that the brithness auto was too dark, and the sreen not very visible.
I solved it by get out the battery and put it again.
When turn on the phone, the brigthness was as at the begining (with better brigthness, and usable in auto mode).
I hope it will help some of you.
I think there is a bug (I don't know when and what) that afects de brigthness auto. Please tell if you have investigate on this bug and issue.
|oscillik||5/7/11 2:05 PM|
@roquegil - that does not fix the problem. i have two batteries so i change them quite often, and my screen still has a yellowed look all over it
|raver27||5/7/11 2:14 PM|
Yep hate to say it,until Google gets there head out the sand we are all going to have a pathetic yellowish, greenish tinged display....This is so not what I payed for...
|raver27||5/7/11 2:19 PM|
Here is the # to Samsung nexus s tech support maybe if we start calling them,someone will take notice
|oscillik||5/7/11 2:25 PM|
@raver27 - that's all well and good for those of you in America. there are a lot of us that are not American though
|raver27||5/7/11 2:33 PM|
In America or not I would make them make note of this issue, I don't expect Samsung to do a whole lot for me anyhow, outside of the more complaints. The more pressure Google will feel the need to fix it,since 500 + post isn't enough apparently ...grrrr this suckz either way....
|oscillik||5/7/11 2:39 PM|
@raver27 - it's kinda expensive to call America from England. i would assume it's the same for other countries too. plus i really don't think Samsung will do anything since the problem is Google's fault, not Samsung's
|raver27||5/7/11 2:46 PM|
Your probably right,but will probably call anyway if. For nothing else just to yell at somebody since Google is unreachable ...
|oscillik||5/7/11 2:48 PM|
@raver27 - i take it you've never worked in a call centre, being yelled at by people that shouldn't be yelling at you? all you're doing is wasting your own time and making someone's job more difficult than it needs to be.
i would suggest that you find other avenues of contacting google and/or spreading the word about the problems we face as Nexus S owners. giving someone a hard time down the phone, when they can't do anything about it, is not going to help the problem.
|Colourfielding||5/7/11 2:51 PM|
Just a link to a page that i started a while ago. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Google-screwed-up-my-Nexus-S-phone/206331152712039 feel free to become a friend to spread the word outside of this forum.
|raver27||5/7/11 2:53 PM|
Yea yea I know man,am just venting,will not yell when I call but would like to know if there aware of this issue, since there the ones u deal with for warranty issues and the like...
|raver27||5/7/11 2:56 PM|
I've also emailed a whole bunch of tech websites in hope we can get this issue out in the lime light again ..
|MarkatPhoneFix||5/7/11 2:58 PM|
Also, I've tried to create a set of all the links to the matter at http://blog.phonefix.org/
Includes contact info for Samsung and Best Buy (US of course)
I'm glad to see things coming back into some activity again.
Without rooting and the Voodoo application, I would not have been able to enjoy my Nexus S ever again.
I got nowhere by calling, but I think it's important to keep trying.
AND make sure to star the issue in the Android forums.
Let's keep making some noise ... even if it's just for us. :)
|kulasse143||5/7/11 3:51 PM|
Colors are really too ugly. I understand not Google.
Nexus s 2.3.4
|raver27||5/7/11 3:53 PM|
Um yes they are...
|raver27||5/7/11 3:57 PM|
@kulasse I see u found all my links from over on xda...Good deal:)
|raver27||5/7/11 9:05 PM|
Another thing I'm curious about is why in the 3d app drawer are the icons blurred at the bottom and top,u could use to see them in detail,anybody. Else notice this?
|Paladin_Andrei||5/7/11 11:09 PM|
BTW, this is also reported as a bug in Android 2.3.3 (but i don't think this is correct). Over 100 posts, 200 stars. You can star away here:
|leovinci||5/8/11 4:59 AM|
competely pissed off with the 2.3.4 display settings. as many mentioned before it is a horrible display now, if i would go to a shop without having seen it before i WOULD NEVER buy this phone with the new colour settings. Google, before I bought it, I wasnt sure wether to buy an Iphone (I use Mac at home) or the new nexus s. i decided for android and the nexus and was happy with this phone until your useless 2.3.4 update that completely messed up this great phone. the display looks worse than any other phone i had. it simply sucks big-time! i won't buy your phones again if this is not fixed.
|raver27||5/8/11 9:12 AM|
Whelp another day were Google fails to respond to its customers ...
|PietroDi||5/8/11 12:54 PM|
I second the color issue. After updating from 2.3.2 to 2.3.4 the colors of my AMOLED (US version) Nexus S screen are very greyish and look washed out. Before the update, the screen of the Nexus S really stood out with its vibrant colors. The screen of the Nexus S always won in comparison to other (AMOLED) screens: the iPhone retina screen, the LG Optumus 2X speed etcetera.
After the update however the screen is diminished to a lesser version. The Nexus S loses now when compared to those same screens.
Please Google let us change the color temperature manual and/or revert the screen back to the BEAUTIFUL way it was.
|raver27||5/8/11 1:22 PM|
I think we need to all start emailing websites like engadget, android central,phandroid and otherez to them to push this issue into the light again,I know I did yesterday ..
|KKTK12||5/8/11 11:09 PM|
Same with this post....keeping it on the front pages...till we get this issue resolved.
|maxib||5/9/11 11:48 AM|
@raver27 - yes I noticed that the icons in the main app menu are now blurred on the top and the bottom. Just compared to my wife's 2.3.2 and, guess what? Yep, crystal clear icons even as they revolve away - you can still read the labels. How anyone from Google can argue that this is a "better" screen now is beyond belief.
Google, give us some fix for this!!!
|raver27||5/9/11 2:15 PM|
Yea this sh** is beyond lame....And we deserve a response and fix for this issue ...
|leovinci||5/9/11 2:51 PM|
this thread is labelled as "answered" just noticed it when looking at the thread list. this must be a joke. keep posting, emailing, calling and hustling google and their support until they resolve this issue.
|jalyn2002||5/9/11 3:58 PM|
Hey guy's just wanted to blow the hack out of this new thread want to help me get Google to reason? well, here is the new Google thread about this silence from Google.
|raver27||5/9/11 5:13 PM|
Hey does anybody else notice a screen burn were the status bar is?in landscapemode with light background I can see a light blue image and with light grey I can see image of the clock!dammit.....keeps getting better and better..
|Anthony44||5/9/11 5:15 PM|
Oh lord inmates running the asylum
|oscillik||5/9/11 5:15 PM|
@raver27 - this is a known caveat of having an OLED based screen - it is susceptible to screen burn in a similar sense that CRT monitors are. tip: don't have your screen on the same image for long periods of time.
|raver27||5/9/11 5:20 PM|
That's kinda hard when the status bar is always there and its black...so that means the rest of the screen is being wore out while the top were status bar is never used cause its black,reason why its still blue...
|oscillik||5/9/11 5:21 PM|
@raver27 - that is the technology.
|raver27||5/9/11 5:25 PM|
@Anthony I don't know what in the hell that means...lol
|Anthony44||5/9/11 5:27 PM|
Sorry its just another way of saying Google has lost control.
|raver27||5/9/11 5:34 PM|
Yea I just read Wikipedia on amoled displays,what it tells me is since Google made my screen yellow, I can now see the blue/not used part of my display were the always there black status bar is much more apparent....smfh
|raver27||5/9/11 5:35 PM|
I wonder if Bestbuy black tie protection will cover it
|maxib||5/10/11 12:55 PM|
Anyone wondered if us nexus s owners are actually old custom for google now - hence the lack of care or response? They want to concentrate on the new flagship phone now. At least iphones users know they are at the top of the pack for a whole year before the next one. We didn't even manage 6 months of the google gold standard support.
|jalyn2002||5/11/11 10:59 PM|
With Apple luck, Google sucks. This is why I got me a Iphone :) but, I still wan't what I bought to be fixed!
|KKTK12||5/12/11 1:41 PM|
I still havent updated mine...staying on 2.3.1 for now I guess and wait to see if this gets resolved.
I fear that I will be stuck on 2.3.1 for ever :(
|Ry Guy||5/12/11 4:50 PM|
As many of you have noted, the 2.3.4 update contains the same color temperature changes that we added in 2.3.3. These changes were made so darker colors would be more accurately reflected on the Nexus S display.
While we'd like to make color temperature a configurable option, this is not technically feasible without adjustments that could potentially damage your hardware. As this is the case, we will not be providing an official build or application that will allow users to change color temperature.
|JPH3||5/12/11 4:52 PM|
Thank you, Ry Guy. I'm sure it's not the answer many of us were hoping for, but I personally appreciate Google making an official statement regarding this matter.
|KKTK12||5/12/11 5:04 PM|
Then dont give us an app---but change the color scheme yourself....if many of us are finding that we have taken a step back---does it matter how "accurate" your color scheme is?
How many users are thanking Google for accurately reflecting darker colors?
|JPH3||5/12/11 5:32 PM|
Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, I feel I can now express my extreme disappointment with Google's decision to permanently alter the colors of the Nexus S. As much as the company wants to believe, it is NOT an improvement to the original design. I find it unfortunate that Google would make a such a dramatic change to the look and feel of a mass marketed product without realizing they would never make everyone happy.
If there will not be an effort to revert to the original "cool" color temperature (which there apparently will not), then I no longer wish to own the device, as it is not the phone I originally purchased.
Unfortunately, I was misled into signing a TWO YEAR contract for the Nexus S. If the original colors will not be restored, will Google do the honorable thing and allow returns of the Nexus S and immediate cancellation of all pending carrier contracts for all of your unhappy customers with ruined displays? Unlikely, I'm guessing.
|DaveDodd||5/12/11 5:56 PM|
So google are still trying to say the colour change is an improvement...who the hell makes these decisions?? A blind man and his dog can see it has made the screen worse. Before my blacks were BLACK and my whites were WHITE (with a blue hue off axis) but now the phone doesnt produce pure white just a horrible yellow tint to everything.
I agree with the above poster...I don't want my Nexus S any more, it no longer reflects the phone i orignally purchased.
I feel i should be entitled to my money back...i will try to return the phone, failing this i will need to speak to my local trading standards to see what rights i have.
Google...I have lost all confidence in your Brand.
|oscillik||5/12/11 5:58 PM|
@DaveDodd - if you are in the UK, you are completely within your rights to demand your money back from the place you bought your phone from, since this change constitutes a breach of the Sale of Goods act here.
|DaveDodd||5/12/11 6:04 PM|
The product still bares Samsungs name...its using their Super Amoled screen technology...are they happy with what google have done to it...surely this is also damaging to Samsungs image? We know the screen is capable as we can see this in other Samsung devices (and the Nexus S before update)...so why did google have to ruin it when samsung didn't decide to kill the screen on all their own models??! This makes no sense!
|Anthony44||5/12/11 6:06 PM|
Sorry guys check mate we loose
|Colourfielding||5/12/11 7:20 PM|
The hell. Just who do they think they are? You don't sell something as one thing and then change it months later and just expect everyone to just take it. It's called "bait and switch." And it's agianst the law even for the Almighty Google. Can you say class action lawsuit from someone soon I'm sure.
|WORMSS||5/12/11 7:29 PM|
@Ry Guy How do I downgrade back to 2.3.2?
|KEViN恺||5/13/11 5:46 AM|
@Ry Guy i dont buy that.
we need color change schemes. did we change color temperature on our CRT monitor that could damage our monitor? I dont think so.
and it is said that Samsung Galaxy S2 provide a color scheme app officially. why Google cant?
whats more, Galaxy S has a more pure white compare to yellowish 2.3.3/2.3.4
|aqarub||5/13/11 8:31 AM|
Thank you Ry Guy,
However, I have a REAL issue related to your post with proof in pictures and I would really like you to address this.
My wife's phone updated from 2.3.1 to 2.3.4 directly and my phone was updated from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 directly with the official Google updates (no rooting).
However, OUR SCREEN COLORS ARE NOW DIFFERENT. Here is the proof: https://picasaweb.google.com/116129078348352733825/AndroidColorDifference#
You said that 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 both have the SAME screen temperature changes. So why are both of these Nexus S GRJ22 2.3.4 phones (bought at the same time from Best Buy) running different colors?
My phone still has yellow whites (updated from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4) and is an UNACCEPTABLE change. Her phone, though changed, still has nice bright whites and is an ACCEPTABLE change.
I have posted this in a separate forum hoping for feed back over a week ago and have had no response from Google on this: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=4a47e3ae5f5a87fd&hl=en
I think the root of the issue here may be that people that updated from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 are seeing nasty yellows, while others are seeing a change, but not as drastic as us coming from 2.3.3.
This is a real and documented issue and really demands a response from Google. I look forward to hearing your quick reply.
|kumaraswi||5/13/11 8:39 AM|
Just had a comparison of my Nexus S 2.3.4 Super AMOLED screen with Samsung Galaxy SL Super Clear LCD yesterday and my Nexus S screen was looking HORRIBLE (Yellowish & Washed out ).. My friend was literally laughing at me ! Super AMOLED screen looks like Super YELLOWISH screen after updating from 2.3.1 to 2.3.4.. Just realized how superb the 2.3.1 screen was.. What is GOOGLE trying to prove by upsetting millions of Nexus S users ?? At least give us an option to switch between both screen colors or either please FIX IT ASAP through next UPDATE ! Please listen to the millions of Customers ! Nexus S testers in GOOGLE office are not the only people using NEXUS S ! Their are millions of other people who spend their hardly earned money on it ! So for GOD SAKE, Listen to Us and fix this ISSUE !!
|maxib||5/13/11 9:27 AM|
LOL. Wow, I might have said a one-liner response would do, I didn't seriously expect it though!
Well, there we are folks. Afters months of this nonsense, we get the official google response: "We've got your money, now sod off."
I don't understand how the option can't be offered without potentially damaging the hardware: surely it would just be the same control option that's out on the Galaxy 2? What about that Voodoo app kernel thing - surely that isn't potentially damaging (and available on the android market place)??
Sorry Ry Guy, the answer just doesn't hold. And even if it were true, aren't all the posts in this and other threads enough to convince Google we the users don't want it?
Iphone, here we come I suspect...
|maxib||5/13/11 9:32 AM|
Isn't it strange that we only got a response once people started contacting office of fair trade and standards etc? We need to keep this up now with the fact that we were mis-sold these devices and have now been officially told by Google that they are going to do nothing to remedy it - maybe they only respond to these sorts of actions.
Ry-Guy - are you going to take note of these reactions in your next update and revert the colour temperature to what your customers want?
|Parttimer||5/13/11 11:05 AM|
Thank you Ry Guy for the reply,
In your statement above, are you saying that the old colour temperature that was used upto 2.3.2 could potentially damage the hardware. If so was the change done because of the phone reboots or may be another problem and not just to make the colours more accurate.
If it was not done for the above reasons, then can you explain why having an option to switch the colour temp back to pre 2.3.3 could potentially damage the hardware, after all you dont need to do variable adjustment just an option yo select one or the other.
By the way my phone is fine with new temp, it just makes no sense what you are saying without giving us the full story.
|Anthony44||5/13/11 11:14 AM|
Wow unless I'm reading something with lack of understanding. Google and Samsung released a phone without proper testing if it could potentially cause damage.
we are now left with a phone we didn't Sighn up for. Google changed the whole scheme. We at least be able to return this nexus half baked unit for a refund
I personally can't stand to look at it the g2x simply crushes the nexus s screen now and its lcd
|Colourfielding||5/13/11 7:27 PM|
Let me see if I have Ry Guy's argument correct. "We broke your phone and if we try and fix it we may brake your phone." That is classic! Obviously our phone could tolerate the old color temps since it came that way so your excuse holds no water Google.
|Paladin_Andrei||5/13/11 9:54 PM|
@Ry Guy & anyone else who works for Google: seems that Samsung has more than 1 SLCD screen factories, and they don't produce identical screens. So, while you sit there watching your prototype phones with great colors, we (the rest of the world) end up with sucky screens. Just go out and buy a few random NS, and you'll see the difference.
Or maybe there is something weird in the update, and the results are somewhat random. Either way, it's not just a matter of opinion: the colors look good on some phones after the update, and on others they look really yellowish. See aqarub's post.
|kumaraswi||5/13/11 11:43 PM|
That was so rude ! How can you simply change the color schemes, which looks odd with the Nexus S screen ? Galaxy S is having the same Super AMOLED screen, How come it looks good ? They (Galaxy S testers) didn't came with any changes in color schemes.. Between the NEXUS S screen was awesome with 2.3.1 & 2.3.2 .. As you mentioned in the very first post, We didn't see anyone complaining or having issues with the same color schemes ( as in 2.3.1 & 2.3.2 ).. In fact issues started with 2.3.3 update.. Now Y don't you listen to these complaints and issues ? Listen to the customers.. Its WE who made Android a huge success, We are still ready to spend money on Android devices, but you have to fix customer complaints first !
|aqarub||5/14/11 1:29 AM|
I'll just keep reiterating my point from time to time in hopes that you see it (BTW that is a very sad way to run customer support).
SOME PHONES ARE UPDATING THE COLOR CHANGES PROPERLY (though still a big step down in my opinion) AND SOME PHONES ARE UPDATING WITH A YELLOW HAZE OVER EVERYTHING.
I have documented this problem in pictures, posted numerous times about it, and properly opened the issue in its own forum. Why is there still no response?
This is a MAJOR bug. What is the phone? It's that massive screen you see every time you turn it on an use it. When the screen is messed up, the entire user experience is ruined. I don't see any of the fancy features you put in, all I see is YELLOW EVERYWHERE.
I'm now using, get this, my Palm Treo Pro, which actually displays better colors than my current 2.3.4 Nexus S.
|leovinci||5/14/11 3:15 AM|
extremely arrogant response from Google here. They really want to make us believe this can't be fixed? they just don't give a damn about it. that's the real reason. a shame for a company like google. sorry to say that. only solution for us: the ones who can, give back their phones and get samsung galaxy 2 or similar and never buy google phones again. my time is too valuable to deal with this crap any longer. Ry Guy, escalate this to your bosses if you care a dime about your customers and take your job seriously.
|KKTK12||5/15/11 9:39 AM|
Google has been busy with other important stuff I guess.
I guess those who are on 2.3.1 should probably stay there.
|maxib||5/15/11 12:43 PM|
@KKTK12 - "Google has been busy with other important stuff I guess."
Yes, like figuring out how they're going to screw over the next batch of users with the next new phone.
"important" is the operative word here it seems. We've already spent the cash on their phone - we're not important now. That's why we have to do what we can to warn any potential buyers of future google phones what kind of an experience they can expect in exchange for their hard earned cash.
Come on Google - it's not too late (or hard) to show that you really can deliver for your customers!
|KKTK12||5/16/11 11:35 AM|
What I find strange is that something like this gets decided this late in the game. Did anyone specifically ask for a color temperature change?
If not---why make it? Unless there were other issues that we the users arent aware of----why make the change in the first place after the device has been out a few months?

If you compare the Nexus S with 2.3.4 and the Nexus One with 2.3.4 you will notice that the weather/news widget is a grey color in the Nexus S and a black color in the Nexus One. I don't have the issue where there is a yellow haze, but in general the Nexus S looks lighter than the Nexus One.
Also, when the Nexus S was on 2.3.2, the low battery indicator was an orange color. Now on 2.3.4 it is a yellow color.
When i first got the 2.3.4 update on the Nexus S, I noticed that all the greys looked lighter. It was very noticeable. Now I guess I am used to it.
|kumaraswi||5/17/11 5:46 AM|
Please fix this issue !
|hoopdoop||5/17/11 12:32 PM|
Bullshit that having things the way they were will damage the screen.
Really wanted to stay with vanilla software but I guess we have to install some shit like cm just to have non fucked up colors
Btw "gray" is not "black", and "yellow" is not "white"
I want some of that crack they are using
|Hopeformanana||5/18/11 10:27 AM|
Thanks to google's colorblind employees I have rooted my Nexus S. I could not be happier. It is faster, stronger, and most important of all: VIVID COLOR DISPLAY!!! Thanks for turning me to the dark side google...and thank you supercurios (YOU ARE AWESOME!!!).
|hoopdoop||5/18/11 10:31 AM|
@hopeform: what did you put on it?
|maxib||5/18/11 11:55 AM|
Do you need to root the phone for the voodoo fix? If only I knew what flashing a kernel was, I'm so pissed off even I would give it a go. Shouldn't have to start looking at these options but can't rely on google looking out for its customers.
|BuilderMan||5/18/11 1:18 PM|
|BPM1974||5/19/11 8:08 AM|
I've decided against the nexus s for this problem alone. No matter what google says, that screen looks horrible. Pretty disappointing too because I would have loved this phone otherwise. I'm with fido so I don't have many options. iPhone it is I guess. And I say that regretfully.
|maxib||5/19/11 11:02 AM|
Regarding that security issue, what about the 2.3.2 users? Will they be forced to update to 2.3.4 to get that update and inherit the shitty colours?
|mola2012||5/19/11 7:01 PM|
I bought 2 new Nexus S phones that came with 2.3.3. One received OTA update upon start up, the other has yet to get it. I took some pictures showing the color differences and posted them below. Although these photos really don't really show the differences as much as the naked eye, it does show how much deeper the colors were vs the faded or washed out colors. The phone on the left are 2.3.3 and on the right are 2.3.4. Both phones bought same day (today) from same store. They are I9020A models and will likely both be returned based on the response received. I am just lucky that I can still do that. I think there is more to the story than just it was levels adjusted in 2.3.3 release because moving from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 has significantly altered the color. It is a shame, I was really excited about my purchase and gtalk video chat. I really wish we could get a better answer.
|whereisthecare||5/21/11 12:52 AM|
I'm afraid to upgrade to 2.3.4 now. Why not complain to Samsung or best buy? Google doesn't seem to care.
|jalyn2002||5/21/11 9:43 PM|
I needed a tablet device for on the go, and I was just in best buy. I looked at the Ipad 2 and looked at the Motorola Xoom so, I have to say that the Xoom was a bigger bang for the bucks and the Ipad 2 had less hardware for the price. So I went with the Ipad 2 just because of the LIES! from Google and all of the DRAMA! with the Nexus S. Google I love your company, but you guy's need to step it up FAST!!!
|KKTK12||5/23/11 9:53 AM|
I think we are past the point of doing much about it on these forums.
Its been Google's stance that their eyes are better than most of ours.
Colors are better now according to them.
It sucks---now we wait for a new phone to purchase and sell this one I guess.
|Anthony44||5/23/11 9:57 AM|
To add to that stay away from super smiled because what's stopping them from doing this again.
|Anthony44||5/23/11 9:59 AM|
Sorry meant super amoled
|converter42||5/23/11 10:57 AM|
Since AT&T is buying T-Mo I'll probably just wait for the opportunity to replace all my Android phones with iPhones. I'm done fighting with Google to get a phone with a display that doesn't look like a Treo 600.
|Twincam1998||5/25/11 12:41 PM|
updated to 2.3.3..no issues at all.
|maxib||5/26/11 10:44 AM|
Yeah, not letting this fall off the front page. Google buyers beware!!
|maxib||5/29/11 3:33 PM|
Wow, well congratulations Google - looks like your plan to ignore your customers has worked. Two days and no activity on this thread. Just what you wanted eh? Ignore until people just get worn down. Well, you may have won on that one, we can't keep wasting our lives waiting for responses from the crappest customer service on earth, but the damage will be done. You have lost good customers who were willing to part with their cash for your products and hopefully anyone else who "googles" this issue will read this thread and be suitably shocked by your arrogance and lack of respect for your customers and will take their custom elsewhere too. Just stumbled on the "lack of proxy settings" thread on support the other day and that one is even longer than this, and even more evident how little you care for current customers or pstential ones for that matter. Whole universities writing in saying they were not buying android tablets because you won't listen to what customers want.
Potential buyers beware!!
|jalyn2002||5/30/11 2:33 AM|
I love my Ipad 2. Iphone 5 here I come. People I tell you this, Google Android will let you all down but Apple will help you up!
|jalyn2002||5/30/11 2:41 AM|
Wow!...LMAO...The Motorola Xoom has 40 apps, and the Ipad 2 has over 65,000 apps. That just gotta hurt huh Google? well Google you need us people; or should I say lab rats? why would Google send poor little Rye Guy to lie to us...Lol
And I'm not playing 65,000 check it out!
|jalyn2002||5/30/11 2:47 AM|
Google just give us back a clean Super Amoled display or will it break my Nexus S? just a dumb comeback.
|JPH3||5/30/11 10:00 AM|
Set up my sister's Thunderbolt yesterday. After playing with that monster for a few hours, going back to my NS was depressing.
Flimsy toy plastic, and the ever present washed out, yellow-green, blurry screen. Even more pronounced after using a normal display.
What kills me is the NS has a BETTER display than the Thunderbolt, but it's hidden by Google's "fix."
Time to suck it up and admit you were wrong, guys. We all make mistakes, but it's how you make it right that defines our character.
|maxib||5/30/11 4:02 PM|
It's sad, today I compared my phone with my cousin's iphone4 again. Oh dear. Put my wife's 2.3.2 next to it and even my iphone loving cousin's jaw dropped - immediately obvious that the nexus was far more vibrant and sharp. Google, we don't even want an admission that you were wrong, just forget your "fix" in the next update and get us back to 2.3.2 colours!
|jalyn2002||6/6/11 9:47 PM|
I geuss Google won the fight over color?
|BuilderMan||6/7/11 6:36 AM|
|JPH3||6/7/11 6:53 AM|
I talked my buddy out of a Nexus S by mentioning a few serious bugs and of course the recent color change fiasco by pointing him here so he could read for himself the way Google handled the situation.
We met today for lunch and we compared his G2X to my Nexus. It was not a pretty sight. He was even happier with his purchase after seeing how bad the NS looked against his phone.
Sad part: I'm not impressed at all by the G2X display, but even that phone kills the NS display.
|WORMSS||6/7/11 11:43 AM|
I dont care what reason you have for changing the Colour temp to "display more accurately"... I dont want accurate colours if it looks that crap.. I want Inaccurate and nice looking. like 2.3.2
|JPH3||6/13/11 10:52 AM|
|DaveDodd||6/13/11 11:39 AM|
Double Bump! The ignore them and hope they go away approach isn't what we expect from a company like Google...you need to step up!
|maxib||6/13/11 1:58 PM|
And triple bump. The ignore them and hope (know) they'll go away is precisely Google's gameplan. Talk will move away from nexus s now and move over to the newer phones, NS2 etc.
So much for enjoying the benefits of owning the flagship - six months of shitty updates and non-existant customer service.
So what were the benefits supposed to be again?
|Hopeformanana||6/15/11 4:42 PM|
Everyone...there is only one way out of this screen color mess: ROOT your phone. Takes 15 mins. Get the Voodoo kernel with the CM7 and you will be more than satisfied. I fell in love with my Nexus S again after I rooted it. It is faster, more customization options, and most importantly: vivid colors. I guarantee you all that once you root the Nexus S you won't want to go back. But even if you do, you can unroot it just as easy...relock the bootloader and turn the phone back to stock. Easy as pie.
Google is not gonna solve this issue. So we might as well turn to the dark side;-)
|leovinci||6/16/11 12:26 AM|
@hopeformanana: the problem is that there are many people that are afraid of doing this and not as tech-epxerienced as others. is there anygood blog or forum that explains the rooting step by step without getting too much into technical details or on how many different versions and kernels you can get so EVERYONE gets it? 95% of people are not interested in this or simply dont have the time to inofrm themselves about all this stuff. an easy instruction with links on where to get what is sufficient.
|hoopdoop||6/16/11 6:40 AM|
Also you don't need the voodoo kernel if you are installing cyanogenmod I'm pretty sure, as the colors aren't screwed in it. Also the voodoo kernel color temperature controls only work while the display is at 100% brightness if I read correctly on their web page.
It's based off of version 2.3.3 right now and they are working on 2.3.4. It's a little buggy as would anything that is user supported be I guess, but at least white=white and black=black. Also you get some extra neat features.
I'd still rather use the stock software without bugs though, but who in their right mind would want white to be yellow and black to be gray?
|maxib||6/16/11 9:39 AM|
@Hoopdoop - Thanks for those links, will look into them. I heard, though, that the voodoo kernel thing which unleashes the amazing sound and allows the colour temperature to be changed also knocks out Bluetooth. I'd really need bluetooth for the car. Is that true as far as you know - admittedly it was a while ago I remember reading it somewhere, so could be fixed.
|hoopdoop||6/16/11 9:49 AM|
@maxib: I don't believe there's any reason to use the voodoo kernel with cyanogenmod. cyanogenmod has a graphic equalizer for sound and also already converts the root filesystem to ext3 I think. I'd imagine that bluetooth works perfectly fine also, haven't used it tho.
So I see no benefit of using voodoo kernel unless someone else does -shrug-.
|maxib||6/16/11 10:32 AM|
OK and the colours are back to 2.3.2 colours without having to do anything else?
