You should be able to set an Google place entry as your work address. For example if you are working in a burger king restaurant, you should be able to set this Google place.entry as your work location.

I use the Gopgle maps navigation app on my LG Vortex phone for address location to deliver propane to rural customers. One thing I notice that really needs changed is that on side roads you have made the roads appear as white lines on a slightly off white background which makes them nearly impossibe to see on a phone screen. I would suggest designating a color other that white for side roads to make this app truely usable for all kinds of delivery people. Other than that I think google maps is both on the PC and the app is probably the greatest online road atlas out there aside from a few roads that you have going through that really don't. As it is now I am going to have to purchase a larger phone or a tablet to see the roads better and true GPS doesn't cut it for rural address locations.

I've created quite a few custom maps, which work great on my laptop but not at all on my iphone w/ the Google Places app. For ex, I created one for all my fave places in NYC when I visit there. But each time I want to go to it, I have to go through a handful of clicks, even if I just open another app and come right back. Also, I wish you could easily add new places you find in Google Maps to your Google Contacts, like you can w/ the iPhone Maps app. I have to copy and paste into Google Maps.

For the Android version offline starring would be nice. Otherwise if you have no data connection at the time, the address (where you pressed long) cannot be loaded, so the star option does not come out. Also the option (not required) to be able to name the star might add more functionality to the application.

There's a bug with starred locations: occasionally if you star it the star either won't appear in the popup (even though it appears in the sidebar) or it 'disappears' at some point from the popup. Also, if the location disappears, it appears that the original star is tied to the CID URL rather than the specific Place, even if the location reappears with a different CID on Maps.
Putting that aside, here's what I would like to see:
*Starred locations should exist as a layer. I don't necessarily want to see all my starred locations all the time.
*Organize by name, alphabetically. Trying to arrange starred POIs manually is tedious, and by date isn't really that useful. On custom maps, it's even worse, since long lists can be unwieldy to organize. I maintain a list of starred locations for my work on Map Maker, so I'm running anywhere between 200 to 300 locations at any given time. I want to be able to play with that data in a more useful way.
*I would like to see a mashup between weather and saved locations (My Maps). I keep track of different weather in different places, but the present solution (widgets on a Mac and iPhone) isn't very useful because I want to be able to see the 'big picture'. Weather is tied to geography.
*Tag starred locations like Google Bookmarks, and be able to organize the starred locations as lists in the sidebar (and appear as visible tags).
*Starred and save locations should be given the option to be added to your Google Contacts. I would love to be able to add a place on Maps and see it in my contacts. It would nice to have information updates (telephone number, closures, etc.) pushed to contacts so that starred locations on Maps acts as more of a business directory. Of course, that's assuming that Places is actually stable enough for that kind of information, and that it includes all the relevant info. (like email addresses) that are presently missing and that I don't want to manually add to the contact.
*Starred locations should be able to be exported as vCards so that I can 'free' my data from Maps at any time I want (Google Takeout).
*You should be able to use Report a problem and edit details on any Starred location. Right now they're greyed out.
*I want to able to share starred location easier. It would be nice if we could use the tagged locations (suggested above, like Google Bookmarks) and share that Map with specific people. I can share custom maps, but not my starred locations...? If you have hundreds of starred locations, trying to add that data to a custom map, and then organizing that data can be...challenging. Why not collaborative starred maps?
*Save to map should be available in the sidebar starred locations dropdown. Space can be made if Edit details is eliminated and replaced with Report a problem--functionally the two are not different, since they take you to the same page (along with Move Marker).
*If data is corrected on the Place page, the starred locations information should update. Presently, names do not update once they've been starred, even if you correct the typos in the name.
*Google contacts should appear as Starred locations in Maps, or as a separate custom map or map layer. Opt-in, you can star the locations in Contacts. Opt-out, un-starring them removes them from Maps.
*Custom maps only have Delete in the dropdown. No edit item. Done and Saved on the custom map page is confusing. Shouldn't they be the same thing (As in Save?). Edit...Save?
Four unrelated issues:
*Add email address to starred (well, all) popups and Place pages, please. The data is sitting on Dashboards and MM, but it doesn't appear in Places. Aggravating.
*POIs that are deleted in MM (Map Maker) are not propagating to the Place page, which is still present (bad behavior/bug).
*POIs that have been marked as dupes in MM or Places are preventing Place page POIs that have been taken down in MM from being removed from Places.
*You have a lot of fake, spammy locations on Maps. Report a problem doesn't work, as the Google Reviewers rarely adhere to Google guidelines, as in the name being keyword spammy, or the address is fake (belongs to another business, doesn't exist at all), and they rarely, if ever, check publicly available business records and tax assessor/property records to find out if the business aligns with that location.

I first want to thank the team at Google Maps for a fundamentally superb product / service. However, I am in the process of changing to the current version on Android, from the rock-solid v3.02 on Blackberry, and there are a few things that are driving me insane...
1. I can no longer edit/change the names of starred locations, either on my Android handset, or on my Mac (running Chrome browser) - the app seems to give my starred location a general location name (CID tower?). I have no option to edit the name at all in Android, and the 'edit' command on my Mac is not active.
2. Possibly related to the above, when I click on a named, starred location saved from v3.02, I am shown the precise location. Locations saved in Android only show me the general area, and I have to hunt around for the star, which on the Mac only appears at quite high magnification.
3. A really great feature of the current version is the ability to save maps for offline use. However, starred locations do not appear on the offline maps. If starred locations could be included as a layer for offline use, this would be great!
Many thanks for listening!

To the best of my knowledge, finding a location on google maps require entering the name of the desired location as well as country and state informations among others.
I believe that a feature that allows people to find a location instantly by entering a unique name (similar to the user id) will significantly enhance the user experience with google maps. For instance, anyone looking for the Digighana Office, located at Lapaz in Accra, Ghana, would only need to type a unique identifier e.g. digighana12 into the search bar for maps. This would send them to an exact marker on the map.
The one creating the map can chose to generate this unique ID when creating a location/marking a spot on the map/placing a marker on the map.
This unique ID feature can be integrated with various services and devices that use google maps e.g. instead of searching or using lengthy gps cordinates to find a particular restaurant, if i am supplied the unique id, i can enter it in my device which will immediately display the destination on the map.
companies can generate these IDs and supply them together with their contact information to help people locate their offices.
I hope my idea is clear and I hope to see this feature soon.

I use stars as POI's (for traveling)
- colored stars - would allow easier identification of interest/POI/reson/purpose of star
- ability to "name" star - this is especially so when there is no name or place, and the map point is only GPS coord's only. Being able to add name/label to star would be helpful

The only new feature relating to starring places that I would like to see is the ability to star a place and count on it staying stared and count on it it showing up on the map six months later. That's it. I've been waging an ongoing and losing battle with starred places now showing up on the map six months or a year later.

I would be great if you could rename and organize stared locations. It's nice to be able to save places so easily, but it's a hassle to remember which address is which when they don't have names (especially on a phone).
|Re: Do you have a feature suggestion for starring a place on Google Maps?||M@||9/21/12 10:10 AM|
When performing a search, I'd like to see google maps return my starred places at the top of search results (especially in google maps for mobiles)
E.g. if i search for dentist I want my starred dentist to be at the top of the list.
Failing that, users really need a way to quickly and easily search their starred places...I really miss this when i'm trying to navigate to starred places and have to drag around the map or scroll through all my places to find the starred place I want to go to!

Offline usability really is the new frontier for mobile devices. Because we have these devices on us all the time we have become dependent on them.
We really need the ability to star places while offline. We also need the ability to access custom maps created in "My Places" when offline. Today I have to use OsmAnd for this. Luckily it exports gpx files so I can assemble the details after I get home from hiking trips.
Consider the use cases for starred places. For making a trip log, it would be nice to allow you to "check in" to you starred places with the option to do so immediately when creating the starred place. This way you could not that you came to a specific trail intersection 3 different times.
I'd also like to have to option to set a notification whenever I get near a starred location. This would be great for exploring without your device in hand.

|Re: Do you have a feature suggestion for starring a place on Google Maps?||Jesse Varner||11/7/12 2:07 PM|
Once you star a location, you lose the option to "search nearby." I starred my job and want to search for somewhere to eat. Or I starred my house and want to find a barber. Etc. etc. As of now, I have to click a random location close to my house and then use the search nearby option.

I would REALLY LOVE IT if I could place Stars in different COLORS to indicate different things of my choosing. I need to be able to place a Star for hotels (one category) and gas stations (another category), besides the places I have visited, so I know where to stay, and where to fuel up. Maybe 5 or 6 different colored Stars to differentiate locations, not just all Yellow Stars. Color suggestions are Yellow (got it), Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Light Blue, Pink, etc. I use the Stars for so many things. Multiple color choices would come in VERY HANDY!!
I love using My Places in Google Maps. I use Maps every single day! Thank you so much for creating, maintaining, and upgrading Google Maps. I couldn't get through the day without it!

Also, it would be absolutely fantastic if addresses in the gmail contact list automatically became stared in maps. (I have my sister's new address saved in her contact, but there's no way to access that through maps, on mobile or computer. It's quite frustrating.)

Love these ideas! I use starred places all the time for work and could use a lot of these features.
Something I would definitely suggest as a feature is the ability to add a note to a starred place (just for me, not public). Many of my starred places are businesses that I visit for work, so being able to add and view a quick note every time I look up the starred location would be great.
A note on your statement about reporting a problem. I found the same issue with Google reviewers early on when I started reporting issues...many reports were being "rejected". Most of mine are locations that are shown in the wrong place on the map. It seems now that I have a "reputation" for providing Google with many "valid" corrections, so my reports are taken more seriously than they first were.

Star on Google Maps is a great function. It could be improved by offering the opportunity to take a photo of the spot starred. This function would offer something similar to "FootPrints", a very nice app found on old HTC phones. The street view is not appropriate sometimes and misses what one is really trying to capture, for example, a photo of a person at that site.
Thank you for this opportunity to make a suggestion.

I have suggestion regarding staring the locations.
1. Giving the ability to star locations offline.
2. Making the staring easier, i think its hard and too complicated. I should be able to star the location I want with the name I like, not the name the maps bring. Look at Nokia maps, they are easier to use.
3. Ability to change starred locations name in the my places list. Its frustrating to go to bookmarks to do such simple thing.
I think, The worst app in Android is G Maps, it is the thing i need to use as much as my calls. G Maps' are not well ORGANIZED even in online features and don't have many OFFLINE features. I really miss the Nokia Maps.
Please who agrees with me, mark helpful.

Good afternoon, GoogleMaps is a nice tool but I do find myself wanting one addition. As a salesperson who travels, being able to create a map of starred locations is pivotal for me. However it is currently limited or unusable since I need to enter it all in manually for each location.
I would llike to upload a XLS or CSV file to create a map of "customers in Ohio" so when I travel there and sales calls cancel (this happens all the time), I can more easily locate other people to see not being familiar with that area since I am from another state. For this reason, being able to upload a list of locations would be very helpful.

I'm surprised this hasn't been already mentioned. But there should be an easy way to share starred places. My wife spent a month in a different country and when I visited her she had all these places starred that she had no easy way to share with me. You should be able to choose from a checklist of starred places and share them with someone. Google+ integration? I think so.
I also second the requests for being able to name starred places and also being able to add places to contacts directly from their info dialog.

It would be great to have a location-based reminder on my Android.
Let's say I star restaurants that I want to try, or restaurants that I would like to go back. There could be a option on Maps for Android to remind me when I'm close by an specific starred place.
The reminder option could also be present on the web-based maps application. So when I star places on the desktop, I could set it up to notify me on my Android when I'm close by the starred location.

This is not at all meant to be snarky, but my suggestion would be to fix the broken functionality of starred / favorite places before going forward with adding new features.
As an End-user, the idea of adding new functionality to starred places doesn't seem like that exciting of a prospect when starring places / favorites functionality doesn't work correctly in the first place.
You've had outstanding issues for over a year now, why not put all your energy into fixing those?
|Re: Do you have a feature suggestion for starring a place on Google Maps?||PhD Assets||1/3/13 1:18 PM|
I need to view an entire list of starred places on the map at one time. Unfortunately, the list of starred companies in the My Places tab does not tell me where any of the companies are located unless I click each individual company. This defeats the purpose of having them stored in my maps account. I need to be able to target a specific location on the map and immediately see that there are "x" number of starred companies within a 5 or 10 mile radius for instance.
Thank you for requesting suggestions. I hope that people are not complaining too much because Maps is a very useful free product.

I accidently discovered how to rename starred locations. All your maps locations show up in bookmarks.google.com, there you can rename/tag/add notes. See also this post which I found afterwards lol. http://productforums.google.com/d/msg/maps/KieRTptcDY8/AyqKto-vFcYJ
Colored stars would be cool, because I can't see the labels/notes from bookmarks in Google Maps / on my phone.

See my answer to Robmiester 3 posts above you. Google Bookmarks does the trick, but Google should implement that inside Maps.

I used to star all points of interest for future reference, however I reached a stage where it was impossible to use the map when zoomed out as the stars too much of it; I then copied a few highlights over into a custom map and deleted all the stars from bookmarks. Since then I have only used the star system to mark a place for short term reference.

I'd love to be able to get my custom maps on my iPhone, or, as an even quicker fix, if I could star things directly from a custom map. Right now you cannot star things from the list on a custom map, so to star all the items on my map I have to search them each individually.
