Is it down for anyone else? Just says unknown location for myself and everyone, been like this for the last few hours....
|Re: Latitude Down?||dvettsa||6/5/12 6:21 AM|
I'm too having problems with latitude. I can't see any of my friends location, and it's not showing my location either. Although my GPS works fine.
|Re: Latitude Down?||ybnorm||6/5/12 7:19 AM|
I also am have strange issues where people are missing and not updating!!
|Re: Latitude Down?||dkell||6/5/12 7:49 AM|
I too am having a stale location and no updates as well. This problem just started for me about 1 in the morning. I checked on both mine and my friends phone and the settings have not changed so it must be something else wrong on the Google end of it. I am so bummed because I use this a bunch to locate people. I hope Google can fix this very soon. Hopefully it is an easy fix. Did this app just have an update because I am thinking maybe its the update if there was one. Not sure.
|Re: Latitude Down?||rgrhcs||6/5/12 7:56 AM|
No update, it is happening to me on both my androids, using new and old maps, as well as through the browser on google.com/lat website, all people are unknown location and have been now for 5-6hrs
|Re: Latitude Down?||slowserver||6/5/12 8:14 AM|
I noticed all of my friends on android devices have unknown location (myself included), but all of my friends on iPhone and Blackberry are getting updated.
|Re: Latitude Down?||eladts||6/5/12 9:57 AM|
Same here. I noticed that I can manually update my location using the desktop site, but the auto update from the phone does not work.
|Re: Latitude Down?||Joris str||6/5/12 10:12 AM|
Same problem here. (maps 6.8, ics 4.0.4)
|Re: Latitude Down?||Fullwave2||6/5/12 10:13 AM|

Does anyone know how long its going to be down? What the issue is or anything? This is very frustrating!
|Re: Latitude Down?||texasbootboy||6/5/12 1:16 PM|
this is bs i cant see no one
|Re: Latitude Down?||Lea Ann Case||6/5/12 1:31 PM|
It was working well a few weeks ago.... Then the photos disappeared. Today the photos are back but I can't see the location of my friends.
I can see my own location... And that will update in real time. However my friends' locations, when it was working, ( which was as late as 12 hours ago) will sometimes take 30mins to update.
Any updates google team???
|Re: Latitude Down?||Murray Hg||6/5/12 1:44 PM|
Me too. My location sometimes update amd sometimes shows as unknown, But even when it updates my friends cannot see me and latitude website shows a stale location. I have SGS2 running ICS 4.03, latest maps is installed. After directions problem in Iran and some other countries now I have this one!
|Re: Latitude Down?||jimbobjames||6/5/12 1:52 PM|
|Re: Latitude Down?||unknown2012||6/5/12 2:24 PM|
Mine is also doing the same. Gps is working on both ends but it still says unknown location. Is it really down or are the friends hiding? Hmmmmm.
|Re: Latitude Down?||Lea Ann Case||6/5/12 2:27 PM|
Nope. No hiding....I've asked. Besides, not all of our mates would be hiding at once lol
|Re: Latitude Down?||xandus||6/5/12 2:29 PM|
Everyone on my list says Unknown Location. It worked perfectly fine last night when I went to bed, and now it hasn't worked all day.
|Re: Latitude Down?||kungfuadam||6/5/12 5:13 PM|
Same problem Galaxy Nexus. Most people are unknown but not all.
|Re: Latitude Down?||dhelfinstine||6/5/12 5:16 PM|
Seems to be working on my wife's iPhone, but my RAZR hasn't updated all day. I thought it was something to do with an app I installed yesterday, but obviously not. Google's big maps announcement today they're not supporting android anymore? J/K.
|Re: Latitude Down?||shagzomatic||6/5/12 7:36 PM|
Same issue here.
FYI, I tried uninstalling Google Maps updates on both my phone (Samsung Charge) and my wife's (Motorola Droid 2), and suddenly we're able to see each other's locations again. It's possible there was a software issue introduced with the latest update.
|Re: Latitude Down?||rgrhcs||6/5/12 8:11 PM|
Well over 14hrs now and they haven't even updated us to if they know there's a problem or not.... brillant
|Re: Latitude Down?||slowserver||6/5/12 8:49 PM|
Uninstalling updates also restored functionality for my phone (Samsung Galaxy S Captivate), so it looks like something broke with an update.
|Re: Latitude Down?||KLG197||6/5/12 9:03 PM|
I noticed this problem today also several friends and relatives that were updating were showing up as unknown location. I can see location of friends that have iPhone or Blackberry with Latitude, but cannot see friends running Android. My brother and I both have Razr Maxx and we both said Unknown Location to each other until we automatically checked in at our employers.
|Re: Latitude Down?||eladts||6/5/12 11:36 PM|
Google has posted version 6.8.1 update to Maps, which seem to fix the problem with Latitude.
|Re: Latitude Down?||Lorenz Eisermann||6/6/12 12:35 AM|
Doesn't seem to be fixed. Location history stopped updating yesterday 10:30am CEST in Berlin, Germany (01:30am Mountain Time). This is true for Android devices, iOS devices and browsers tested under Windows 7.
Locating mobile devices through Google Apps for Business registered to a domain is working, though. They are apparently using another service, not Latitude. My assumption is there is a problem with the Latitude servers.
|Re: Latitude Down?||testandroid||6/6/12 1:33 AM|
I tried downloading 6.8.1 and the problem persists on my Android. all my Android friends are listed as Unknown location.
|Re: Latitude Down?||JorisM||6/6/12 2:52 AM|
Seems not working for me neither (with this 6.8.1 patch). I'm not visible on Latitude and my Latitude History is not updated.
|Re: Latitude Down?||SLeepdepD||6/6/12 6:04 AM|
Have your friends all applied the update as well?

|Re: Latitude Down?||RichardK3||6/6/12 6:15 AM|
I updated two identical Android phones. After updating, both phones showed their correct locations in their Maps/Latitude apps. When I looked at Latitude on the web, my wife's location had updated, but mine hadn't. After several hours, nothing had changed, so I rebooted my phone, and it immediately updated my location. So you (and your friends) may need to both update and reboot before this is completely fixed.
|Re: Latitude Down?||grhino||6/6/12 6:48 AM|
Same problem for me. Android device seems to be the only affected by the issue. The iPhone seems to be unaffected. I have a Galaxy Nexus and it shows my location as unknown to my wife who is on iPhone, although I see her location updated on my Galaxy Nexus.
Google latitude on the desktop browser also appears to be unaffected.
|Re: Latitude Down?||Phillip Dampier||6/6/12 7:37 AM|
Actually that does not solve the problem for us with a mix of HTC, Samsung, and Motorola phones. When you see yourself on your own phone as "updated," that does not propagate to every other user in your Latitude circle. My Latitude appears to update every few minutes as always, but my friends either see me with a stale location from a day earlier or not at all.
I have one friend who is still updating, but what makes his phone different is he has GPS permanently turned off on his phone off completely, so my guess is the bug has something to do with GPS data. His location updates based on cell tower data, not GPS, and he seems to be the only one of 10 friends that shows any data over the last day or two.
|Re: Latitude Down?||Phillip Dampier||6/6/12 7:49 AM|
This patch appears to have done nothing to solve the problem. In fact, the longer-standing issues that were introduced in the early May update remain:
I'd say whatever changes were introduced in early May are probably behind a lot of these problems, and they have not been corrected or addressed in subsequent versions, where even more bugs and issues have been introduced.
In the last year, I'd say Latitude has been pretty unstable, starting with the removal of push-updates on friend locations. While new features have been forthcoming, the basic problems with the app remain un-addressed. First priority should be accuracy of location data, flexibility for users to update it as needed, and improvements in inside-the-lab testing before these updates are pushed out. The loss of functionality in Google Maps navigation for an entire class of users a few weeks ago was really unacceptable for a company like Google, who has an image to protect. I have been reading the app reviews for Google Maps, which includes Latitude, and there are detailed bug reports and user complaints all over the place, and I began to wonder if anyone at Google was actually reading them. Perhaps the app needs a built-in bug reporting system that can let users file complaints and include the necessary data you need to swat them.

On my two android phones Latitude is not working
|Re: Latitude Down?||rgrhcs||6/6/12 8:28 AM|
Ok so after uninstalling Maps from my Android and then reinstalling the newest version 6.8.1 and rejoining Latitude it appears to have fixed the issue, but it will require all other people using it to the do same to allow for there location to also be updated and viewed. Hopefully this helps you get Latitude back working like it's current crappy self....
