Google Trails! GarrySanders 1/14/09 11:01 AM This was mentioned previously by other users in the past help forum, but I wanted to suggest it again and submit another vote for this feature.  Base a Google Trails app on the popular Google Maps tool, but include all recreational trails.  I know th
Re: Google Trails! kens1953 1/15/09 8:39 AM I also would like to see a walking/hiking mode and bicycling mode with full routing capability.  This should include routing between 2 street addresses or businesses if part of the route is on a trail, and part on sidewalks.  This would be something
Re: Google Trails! fluvial_shell 3/10/09 12:53 PM I also second the motion to include hiking and bicycle trails!
Re: Google Trails! rbprescott 3/16/09 3:10 PM I am also in favor of including biking/hiking trails as a direction option.  I am using a cross between "rail-to-trail" (http://traillink.com) and GOOGLE directions.
Re: Google Trails! scottdburnett 3/17/09 10:53 AM I would love to use this to map walks, hikes, runs that are off street.  You could send the map to friends, calculate distances and add photos.
Re: Google Trails! BarryJeff 4/12/09 5:14 AM I cannot agree more with the accompanying comments, but with an added item. Include a facility to download trail routes to the more common GPS units or at least gps files. At a minimum, have Google Maps echo LON/LAT coordinates the way Google Earth d
Re: Google Trails! treebles 4/12/09 8:07 AM Although it is good to have this thread another approach it to vote for these and other other suggestions in the Google's official suggestion page [1].
Re: Google Trails! hedgren 6/5/09 6:42 AM The province of Ontario (Canada) currently is collecting trail heads and trail points - Google can access this data at no cost and incorporate it into their application.  http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LIO/2ColumnSubPage/STEL02_167962.html
Re: Google Trails! billfellow 6/5/09 9:04 AM I think that this would be fantastic.  I'm a hiker who's always looking for new trails.  With the widespread proliferation of handheld GPS, I'm sure that hiker groups and park staff would be ecstatic to help out with the mapping process.
Re: Google Trails! mp368bull 6/15/09 10:41 AM I think this is a great idea especially for families that are always on the go now at least people can see where or which trails they would like to hike thanks google you are always thinking.
Re: Google Trails! damead 6/15/09 11:14 AM Google maps need a full bicycle option to go with the Car, Mass Transit and Walk options.  For one thing, bicycling needs to be recognized as its own mode of transportation. For another, localities (lobbied effectively by bicycle coalitions) are cont
Re: Google Trails! Spiffypants 6/30/09 9:56 AM I would say take it one step further and have lightweight cameras on your body that periodically take snapshots while you hike. And call it Google Trailview.
Re: Google Trails! joechoj 7/20/09 6:30 PM I love it! Let's vote it in!!
Re: Google Trails! Wilky 7/25/09 10:09 PM Great idea. I'm trying to find accurate distances on the Los Gatos Creek trail, so I can incorporate it in training for a half marathon. It's really hard to find good trail maps online and even harder to find ones with measuring tools. (Might have to
Re: Google Trails! rjeperkins1975 8/13/09 8:22 AM I work for the City of Columbia, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department.  We are currently in the process of inventorying all our park amenities including our trail system.  The main trails have already been mapped and set up for routing, but we ha
Re: Google Trails! freethinker15 10/5/09 9:50 AM I've created a Google Group for people who'd like to contribute information about their local paths, trails and walkways to Google Maps Walking Directions (GMWD).   http://groups.google.com/group/walking-our-planet
Re: Google Trails! sunseasurf 10/28/09 1:17 PM i think this is a great idea. urbanites could also use it to know which path to take to their nearest public transit, and be able to modify pedestrian or bike route by eg most scenic, handicapped access, safest to walk at night etc. I bet google coul
Re: Google Trails! deserteagle99uzi 3/15/10 1:53 PM I have been hoping for a trail view for quite some time.  What are the thoughts on the bike view implemented?  Is it adequate to also be used as a trails layer? My bike trails master map: http://www.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=110828

Re: Google Trails! Truth Kid 7/28/10 6:32 AM I'd love to see this happen. Until we can get an official word from Google, anyone with an Android device could download either My Tracks or Runstar and map out trails one trail at a time and we could add them to mountain specific maps.
Re: Google Trails! evkoester 7/29/10 7:49 AM I'm more interested in a trail application of street view, not just the trail routing.  I realize carrying the bulky camera on a backpack might be unrealistic, but it won't be for long.  Any news on this?
