|Gmail will not attach file; I'm using Chrome||fastartcee||3/9/11 1:48 PM|
Explain your issue in full detail here:
When I go through the procedure to add an attachment, nothing happens. No attachment. If I save the draft, quit Chrome, open Firefox and go back to my Gmail account, the attachment process works.
I've tried all the suggestions in Help, including flushing the Chrome cache, then quitting and restarting Chrome and going back to Gmail ...but the problem persists.
Thanks for any help,

I have found out what is causing this, it the latest update from chrome. I tested it on a machine that had not updated chrome it worked fine, went to check the version and it auto-updated Chrome and then it stopped working. There must be an issue with the newest version of chrome and the flash plugin that is built into it. Now all I need to do is find out how I get in touch with the chrome dev team to let them know.

Thank you for the answer!
Strangely, sometimes the attachment process works with Chrome v.10, and sometimes it doesn't... but I think, over all, you are correct. I guess I'll wait for the Chrome development team to figure it out. In the meantime, I'll just jump to Firefox v.4 if I must send an attachment whenever Chrome won't do it.

We have lots of users trying to use google chrome and attach a file in gmail. Every one of the computers experiencing the same problem once they auto upgraded to version 10 of chrome. It still works fine in IE and Firefox.
I have tried to drag and drop an attachment but it doesn't work either.
Is there a setting to restore defaults or something that may be blocking a script or a pop-up or something?
Any new ideas?

If you go into setting in mail under the general tab scroll all the way to the bottom to the attachments section and select Basic Attachment features and save changes it should work again, you just won't be able to select multiple files.

I just tried attaching a small jpeg file ...and it worked. But I know--from the past couple week's experiences--that maybe later this afternoon when I try to attach an Excel file it won't work!
I like Chrome v.10 'cuz it's so fast & clean; but I hope the developers quickly fix this problem, and put out an update. In the meantime, I'll make occasional use of Firefox.

Thanks for the reply, mnewberry. If on some emails I only need one attachment I'll follow your advice.

I went to Adobe and installed the Flash Player Plugin v 10.2.152.32 attachments now work!

@ RussInABQ Can you please tell me how you installed 10.2.152.32 for Chrome? if I go to the adobe site I get a message that Chrome handles the version and I cannot change it, if I download the installer it installs for Opera and Firefox but not Chrome, currently I have 10,2,154,18 installed, TIA

My Flash plug-ins are:

I think this is only occurring with network mounted drives, I found that I do not have the problem on my local C: drive
|Re: Gmail will not attach file; I'm using Chrome||fastartcee||3/16/11 8:05 AM|
I hadn't even thought of that, but that is exactly what's happening with me. I just tried to attach from my home server (as a mapped network drive), and it didn't work. But when I then tried again by going through 'Network' to my home server, it worked. Also, when I copied the file onto my desktop, it worked.
So you are right, erh... it has something to do with mapped drives. And you've given me a work-around for attaching multiple files. Thanks for the input!

WOW. You guys are onto something!!. All of our users are using a mapped user drive to attach files. any local files attach with no problem. approx 40 users.
Definitely something broke in the update. Its good to know there are a couple workarounds, basic and local files.
I can't wait for the next chrome update. hopefully they can address this issue.

That was it. Mapped network drive. Nice troubleshooting and thanks for a temporary solution to this problem.

glad to help, troubleshooting is my middle name :)

I have the same problem! Attaching files through the mapped drive won't work. BUT, if I access files through "Network," they will attach. Can't wait for the fix.

Sorry to break the streak but I'm not hooked up to a network and can't attach files in any method. Oddly, I also can't access my Gmail settings directly - I have to go my general account settings and then gmail. I changed it to basic attachments and still can't attach anything. Pretty sure my flash is up to date. I have 3 gmail accts and use all 3 browsers simultaneously so it will be a big pain to stop using chrome. is there a way to downgrade to an earlier version?
