Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? christianp 2/2/10 10:03 PM Chrome extensions have a manifest file, that specifies which pages that you visit, that the extension can interact with. The extension you're trying to install, might need access to all pages you visit. Some extensions might want to access any page

Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? khanfauji 4/2/10 9:44 PM It would be nice if extensions could be classified with a rating system for safety.  1 start would be that it does not have any access... and 5 start could be it has full access.  That way the customer can determine which extensions to download.  Thi
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? 12345789 4/5/10 11:07 AM I do online banking & purchasing off of Ebay. It's disturbing that these extensions could have access to my credit card & banking info. I'm wondering if Google Chrome is safe to use overall? Also, I'm wondering if these extensions work the same way i

It's odd that Google hasn't made any explanations about this, seeing as how it's such a big deal.  We can only assume that Google is looking
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? daverdo 4/24/10 5:14 AM I too am concerned about security when visiting financial sites.  It would be nice if Chrome could disable extensions when visiting certain sites. e.g. If I visit http://vanguard.com, http://ebay.com, or http://fidelity.com, I want Chrome to _automatically_ disable the e
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? hideux 5/13/10 4:04 AM It's unbelieveable that Google hasn't made any official announcement about the situation. Another important point is before these warnings we all have been using the same extentions. Does this mean all our private data sent via forms including passwo
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? christianp 5/13/10 4:16 AM Easy now. Two things. First of all, just because an extension potentially has the power to peak into what you're doing online, it doesn't mean it actually does it. And second, IE add-ons has the exact same capabilities. The difference between IE add-
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? hideux 5/13/10 7:18 AM "It is possible but we expect not to do" view does not make me feel comfort. If there is an open risk this must be handled. Most of the extentions are from third-parties on chrome and i use tens of them. Who has the time to control what it does every
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? christianp 5/13/10 7:28 AM I see your point. But OK: In order for an extension to do anything useful at all, it would have to have access to the contents of your page. There's no in between. If you want security, disable extensions from vendors you do not know or trust.
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? AirYT 5/20/10 10:47 AM i'm going to jump on the bandwagon here and add my "this policy scares the hell out of me" vote. i'm shocked there isn't more information out there about the possibility of chrome extensions having access to any local data at all. some of the extensi
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? BloodyT 5/25/10 7:50 AM Chances are, if an extension has more than a thousand users, that the code has been reviewed by atleast someone... (no guarantee), so its probably pretty safe..., although it would be nice if any extensions with over 1k users were reviewed by a progr
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? Scrawld 5/27/10 7:48 AM I have to say the warnings that it gives can sound quite scary, and more often threatening than they need be. Clarification on how and why they need this access would help. I went to reinstall a previous (well trusted) extension and it came up asking
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? AirYT 5/27/10 8:11 AM sorry all, in this day & age, i'm going to have to disagree 100%. it's not good enough for me to think "well this extension is PROBABLY going to be ok ..." or "it's highly unlikely to upload all my information onto the internet ..." even if i do trus
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? toodles80 5/30/10 6:45 PM For those asking about visiting a page that you don't want the extensions to see/use, when you use the Incognito window, it actually says: Because Google Chrome does not control how extensions handle your personal data, all extensions have been disa
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? aBinn 6/21/10 4:33 PM Google is playing pretty fast and loose with such a broad warning.  It looks to me like someone's hoping people will stop taking privacy seriously, and just OK their way into divulging data to be used in whatever way the vendor desires.  I am shocked
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? BloodyT 6/22/10 10:25 PM its not that fast/broad, because All extensions are open source, and 2 without permission extensions would be to limited

Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? Toni (Googler) 7/16/10 5:32 PM Hi everyone,  Thanks for the feedback on this. christianp has done a great job explaining some of this so far (thanks christianp!) and I'll reiterate/clarify on some points.  Depending on the extension you install, the extension might need legitimate
Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? fredbloggsjunior 8/17/10 3:28 AM I was scared off installing extension "Tabs Saver" because of the talked about warning text. Toni's and christianp's explanations are good reading and explain much about the issues and is fair to say that [probably] most of us install way too much so

Re: "This extension will have access to your […] private data on all websites" — what does that mean, specifically? Wesley's thoughts 9/3/10 7:33 AM THIS IS INSANE: I can't believe that google can claim one single word when it comes to security when they even thought for one second that "access to all your web sites" and "private data" would just be completely normal and acceptable and SECURE!!
