"Unable to connect to the proxy server
A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary between your computer and other servers. Right now, your system is configured to use a proxy, but Google Chrome can't connect to it.
Here are some suggestions:
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or check with your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working.
If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, try the following steps: Go to Wrench menu > Options > Under the Hood > Change proxy settings > LAN Settings and deselect "Use a proxy server for your LAN."
Error 130 (net::ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED): Proxy server connection failed."
can someone help me find a solution? i have used it before and this is the first time this has happened. i have tried the prompted and many other solutions but im still unable to connect with any of my browsers without the program except firefox. this is very frustrating seeing i am a proud supporter of Google and their technologies. this is just disappointing.

Did you do the following?
Do you have a proxy server at work? Did your IT administrator change proxy setting?

This happened to me too. I went by the directions on the page when it couldn't connect, refreshed the page and it still didn't connect. I tried war17's option, which was the
"Go to Wrench menu > Options > Under the Hood > Change proxy settings > LAN Settings and deselect "Use a proxy server for your LAN." and check marked "Automatically detect settings" and it works now. =)
Thanks war17! :D

There is an icon in upper left corner that looks like a wrench. Click on it to see the menu.

everyone is talking knowingly and efficiently about something called a "wrench" menu - but no one is haring the secret about WHERE it is!!!!!?????
|wár17 §||10/5/11 7:06 PM|
What browser are you using? For Windows, there is an icon in upper right corner that looks like a wrench. Click on it to see the menu.
For Mac, the icon is a Chrome globe > Prefreences.

Using Win7 Home Premium and all this is not working here, already dis-selected (default) "Use a proxy server for your LAN."
I do not have a proxy server at work. There is no administrator besides me. ??????
Why is this happening for the last 5 days. I am using Chrome for the last 4 months on this very computer.

It worked for me. It was such a good suggestion for me . Thanks All of you

I have gone to the wrench menu, selected "under the hood" and where it says network the box that your supposed to click for "change proxy settings..." Is greyed out, nothing happens when you click it. Any suggestions?
|wár17 §||1/29/12 9:50 AM|
Cooper7623, what operating system are you using? Are you using a proxy in office setting? You IT Admin may have blocked off proxy.
|Cooper7623||1/29/12 9:54 AM|
Thank you for such a prompt reply. I am using my home desk top running XP. Chrome is giving me the error 130 proxy server connection failed error.
|wár17 §||1/29/12 10:10 AM|
Go to Internet Explorer > Options > Connection and change the proxy as instructed above.

I was using ultrasurf VPN and got this error. What I had to do was reload the VPN to get rid of the problem.

I'm using Chromium on Linux with KDE. When I click the proxy settings in Wrench > Under the Hood, it presents me with the KDE-native proxy settings window, which is already properly configured. All of my KDE applications are able to use the proxy settings without difficulty, but Chromium shows the "Error 130 (net::ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED): Proxy server connection failed" error.
|nassos.kourentas||2/21/12 1:14 AM|
I have the _exact same problematic behaviour_ as @firebringer11 has already reported above. I am using Google Chrome Version: 17.0.963.46 beta and within the last 24 hours I _cannot_ access _any_ page with the above mentioned issue: I am also using KDE (version 4.8.0 release 462 with openSuSE 11.2 linux (32 bit) _and_ Tumbleweed) and "when I click the proxy settings in Wrench > Under the Hood, it presents me with the KDE-native proxy settings window, which is already properly configured. All of my KDE applications are able to use the proxy settings without _any_ problem, _but_ Chrome shows the "Error 130 (net::ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED): Proxy server connection failed" error."
I would appreciate any kind of feedback that could potentially shed some light into the blind alley I have come with...
Should anyone require any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me,

I am facing the same issue, but would like to post a few more details, hopefully giving more perspective into the problem.
1. I get above error on google chrome.
2. I am using chrome, it is working fine. I close and reopen chrome, bang problem. (couldn't use restore this time since no restore points available)
3. Next I use Opera, which works fine initially but after few hours, same message in Opera as well.
4. I tried IE8 as well, it also couldnt connect.
5. I am yet to try Firefox though, coz it was crashing all the time on my machine as is.
6. I have multiple OS on my machine, so I go to XP and use Chrome, its working fine here (hence i am able to post this message).
BTW i tried the Wrench menu options as well, nothing works, since i dont have a proxy enabled (may be by ISP i dunno). But i fail to understand why try these options of changing network settings if everything was working fine moments ago. And I haven't even touched the network settings, only change in action was browser restart, which let to this issue.
I think this is a complex problem, probably something to do with Win 7. Nonetheless, there are only workarounds at the moment and no fix on this issue. Probably someone with knowledge of registry settings on windows could help (my guess is something is getting stored in there, which is causing this issue).
Thanks for any help in anticipation.

This fixed the problem for me, I had to change it in IE because there was no option in Chrome on Win7. Computer was working great for a few days, then some updates and no internet besides gmail. Well I just un-checked the proxy server in IE and now all my internet works thanks!

What does a wrench look like?
|domoclint||9/15/13 5:23 PM|

Whether there is a wrench depends upon version of Chrome - if no wrench click on three bars on upper right and then click settings & go from there.
