That's because Hotmail recently updated its interface. The new text boxes aren't compatible with Chrome just yet. Hopefully, the next version will implement a fix to this issue.

I wonder if the new incompatibility with Hotmail is entirely coincidental or whether Bill Gates is unhappy with another competitor for his Internet Explorer browser. In the last several months Hotmail has upgraded a couple times and each time it has contributed to a lack of functionality in google chrome- at first I could read emails but not send, now (this week) i cannot even open emails in hotmail. I am sure Google chrome will address this soon enough- but this is what makes me want to limit the number of microsoft applications I use to a bare minimum! Gmail is already a better email provider- but I still must use Hotmail for some things- so I personally am booting up internet explorer when I have to use hotmail and I am booting up chrome for everything else. That's the only good solution at this juncture.

This is a temporary solution for this problem.
Right click on the Chrome shortcut on you desktop (or where you have located one) then open Poperties.
Past behind the location this line: --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19
So it looks like this:
"C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19
It works great for me.

I was having the same problem with using Hotmail. I tried LostG's suggestion and it works great!!!

Since recently, Hotmail freely opened POP3 access.
This means you can receive your Hotmail in Gmail (or any POP3 compatible email applications).
Receive on: pop3.live.com - using SSL - on port 995
Send on: smtp.live.com - on port 25
Use your whole email address as username
If you use Gmail, you won’t have to set the smtp port, you will simply add your Hotmail address in the “Sand mail as” settings.

I still cannot get my Hotmail working even after writing that phrase behind my shortcut.
Having issues with Wordpress posting not working as well.

KGL, that's only available in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Are there quotation marks on both sides of the text you put at the end of the shortcut location? It seems that LostG's post is missing the closing quotation mark.
Please read the fix Shawn posted at the thread I've linked to below. It has the same fix that LostG shared, and there are loads of others discussing the issue there.
If anyone has any trouble with this workaround, please let us know on that thread -- it's easier if everyone is conversing together in one place. I realize this isn't the best workaround; thanks for your patience with it.

I have tried the fix, which works just fine. However, it does not work in conjunction with the --incognito switch (I prefer to launch Chrome in incognito mode). I can have one or the other (Hotmail works, or Incognito launch), but not both. Any suggestions?
