How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) iTreezy 7/13/11 9:15 PM Google Chrome        14.0.821.0 (Official Build 92291) canary OS        Windows 7 There is no option to disable this feature under the option page or about:flags I hate the cupcake -_-
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Commodore Crush 7/18/11 6:39 PM Agreed this stinks.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) degoeym 7/18/11 6:54 PM I agree, this is dumb as hell. I don't care if there's a profile thing there, but let me either choose no icon or go back to the Chrome icon.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Martinthew 7/18/11 7:22 PM For now I've just installed an older version of Chrome and disabled the updating. The little icon made me want to put tape over it. What a dumb idea not to be able to turn it off.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Commodore Crush 7/18/11 7:27 PM Besides, I'm the only one that uses my computer.  There's no need for multiple profiles.  Let me turn it off!
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) n-max 7/18/11 8:02 PM bump This addition is awful.  I have never experienced a new browser feature that made me so instantly annoyed.  It's honestly so ugly and stupid I have to switch to another browser until it's gone.  If anyone figures out how to make it go away pleas
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) bmuffin 7/18/11 8:32 PM Awesome I just deleted all my bookmarks trying to get rid of it
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) rogerlee 7/18/11 9:54 PM Not only do I HATE this feature but all of my bookmarks just disappeared... nice. I am so angry. I used to like Chrome, but this is a total juke. I think I'm going back to Firefox.. never had any fiasos like this.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) bickelk 7/18/11 10:37 PM To get your bookmarks back go to this folder (make sure hidden folders are visible): Win XP: "\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Application Data \Google\Chrome\User Data\Default" Vista/7: "\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Google\Ch
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Fuzzylightning 7/18/11 10:43 PM Ugly icons are ugly, but that's not even the problem. You should be able to turn it off no matter what. I've always liked that Chrome was simple and minimalistic. This is a stupid feature that only a small portion of the install base are actually goi
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) derektu 7/19/11 2:38 AM This is the ugliest icons I've ever seen. Please give us ability to turn off this feature.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) RosOne 7/19/11 2:47 AM Agreed, please remove the icons/feature. I have no need for profiles, at all.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) n-max 7/19/11 5:35 AM ...icons are ugly, but that's not even the problem. You should be able to turn it off no matter what.  There are two problems here: Fuzzylightning is right: it's difficult to see the broad value of this feature, at least in proportion to its current
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Patu 7/19/11 9:28 AM Totally useless feature since I'm the only one using my computer. How can I disable the ugly icon?
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) stevehops 7/19/11 9:55 AM And it's huge, I don't have enough tab real estate as it is. Let us turn it off.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Phalangees 7/19/11 10:00 AM Here's how to get rid of the cupcake: Get off of canary/dev, and instead use beta: http://www.google.com/landing/chrome/beta/ Or go all the way back to a stable build: http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/make/download.html
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Toni (Googler) 7/19/11 11:00 AM Hi everyone,  Thanks for the feedback so far. A couple of answer to your questions: - What you're seeing is still a work-in-progress. The feature is still in development.- If you only have 1 default profile, you won't be forced to use an icon soon. T
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) garethjmsaunders 7/19/11 11:35 AM I spotted the cupcake icon when I fired up Chrome 14.0.825.0 dev-m (Windows 7 Pro, 32-bit) this evening. What's that all about? I clicked on it. Ah! Profiles: cool! So did a bit of searching on Google to find out what it's all out. I'm in Web develo
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) iTreezy 7/19/11 3:01 PM Thanks for the info Toni While we're on the subject of Canary and what not.  I love the compact navigation feature, what would really be awesome is if the actual top bar would hide until you hover over or press ctrl+L.  Basically fullscreen without
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Larry Mac 7/19/11 3:59 PM I bet a lot of this animosity could have been avoided if a different default had been chosen - like the chem lab flask  (which, incidentally, doesn't fit in the allotted space).
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) aitor1717 7/19/11 4:56 PM I dont find any use in profiles either. Not the best idea in my opinion. Could you please deactivate them?
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) JackyH 7/19/11 5:09 PM Hi Everyone,  Thanks again for all your great feedback! Still, it seems a few of you have also had some problems with viewing and possibly deleting your bookmarks. Have you set up sync yet? When you first login into profile-enabled Chrome browser, it
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Larry Mac 7/19/11 6:19 PM OK, what I think you Google folk aren't getting is that a) suddenly we had a cupcake (again, horrible choice for the default)  b) click on the cupcake showed a little box that said *something* about profiles.  c) in a desire to get rid of the unwante
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Thomas Tschoellitsch 7/19/11 6:25 PM Unfortunately, deleting your profile (and apparently the default profile at that) can be done without a confirmation or warning. Aside of that the .bak file is overwritten at the same time (or at restart of the browser), so restoring on XP seems impo
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) kenneth.hughes 7/19/11 7:25 PM Larry Mac summarized my feelings exactly.  I got here searching for "google chrome profile icon ugly" after strongly disliking the cupcake icon and suffering from similar surprise that "delete profile" immediately and without warning closed all Chrom
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Toni (Googler) 7/19/11 8:36 PM I want to clarify a point on my "Best Answer" post that is worth noting. We use the Canary/Dev versions as our testing playground. It's worth clarifying that what you see on these versions isn't necessarily a "work in progress" (e.g. things we're bui
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Larry Mac 7/20/11 3:54 AM Just call me Don.  Mr Quixote if you're nasty..... First, as a Google Employee, apparently all of your posts get tagged "Best Answer", which probably says something right there.  Hubris?  Chutzpah?  Whatevs. Now on to the analogy.  I'm puzzled by t
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) giltayar 7/20/11 5:21 AM Toni, I for one am all for a UI for Multiple profiles, and can certainly understand that the _dev_ build is a place for experimenting with UI. I do have one _real_ comment: I used the multiple profiles for a work/home situation, but reverted back t
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) n-max 7/20/11 5:51 AM Thanks, Toni, for your candid follow-up post. I do get that the dev channel has to be a place to take new ideas for a spin - and how that work (both successful and failure) eventually benefits a stable end product.  I'll also concede that nobody does
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) iTreezy 7/20/11 5:54 AM As the original poster I've been slacking on responses (swamped from work yesterday) I would like to thank Toni for giving us light on this subject. As it was stated before, the feature itself isn't what is upsetting, it's that fact that you can't
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) peekypokey 7/20/11 6:05 AM I was actually Googling for a way to remove the cupcake or at least change it to something less garish (it's making me feel like I'm using a Fisher Price browser), but after reading all the crybaby replies here I am 100% in favour of the cupcake and
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) cmattis 7/20/11 6:56 AM Google is such a great company, has such intelligent people working there, so how in the world did they come up with such an idiodic idea as the cupcake and profiles????????  Not only do I not need it (I'm the only one who uses my computer - like mos
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) JR Parsons 7/20/11 9:07 AM Deploying a cupcake (unwanted feature) linked to my bookmarks (critical function) was not a great design decision.  Not including any warn-on-delete functionality with the Ugly Cupcake is a HUGE oversight.  This basically places a big, annoying, "ple
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) uscgarcia 7/20/11 10:56 AM The cupcake is an eyesore. Thinking of jumping off canary build just to get rid of it.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) jrseney 7/20/11 10:57 AM Great thread. I should bookmark this page - in fact it will now be the one and only book mark I'll have b/c I just accidently blew all mine away trying to get rid of the damn cupcake... smh. I forgot that I had the dev version installed, I'm definite
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) brian310207 7/20/11 11:12 AM Why is Google implementing profiles in the browser when it's already implemented in the OS?
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) henry4 7/20/11 11:52 AM A few suggestions. Don't add new functions to the top bar. Move the new profile functionality under the wrench menu. Don't allow engineers to introduce new visual features without a design review. Just use text labels for the profiles. Give users a w
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) MrMorodo 7/20/11 12:50 PM While I do find the 'chunky' profile icon distinctly irritating right there in the top left, i accept this is a dev. test env. so that's not a problem at all. For me though it is more a question of what's the point of the profiles?.... I am logged on
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Tim.V 7/20/11 1:55 PM JackyH, I want to take the time to thank you for closing the thread I made about bookmark deletion and pointing me to this thread.  bickelk's post in this thread is directly on point to my issue. I'm glad that google has solved or is working on some
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Marc B. Poblet 7/21/11 4:06 AM That space is for *TABS*. It's been years since I used Firefox. Thanks to this "feature" I'm going to try the new version. Guess Chrome was getting too much user base to remain "cool", so Google had to do something about it. Either that or a Mozilla,
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) zgood 7/21/11 8:00 AM Give us the option to remove the stupid cupcake.  Its not even a good icon.  I never use multiple profiles because I'm the only one who uses my computer, and for people who have multiple profiles this is usually taken care of on the OS level.  So peo
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) DayneMUIC 7/21/11 10:22 AM My feed back is that the cup cake is bad. I like to control what my browser looks like, and I use this chrome browser because I like how it is minimal and easy on my net book. At the end of the day though, I don't care about the profile thing. I want
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) henry4 7/21/11 4:53 PM I hate it but in a purely conceptual sense I appreciate the beauty of hard-working but visually illiterate Google engineers parking cupcakes, hot dogs, and other debris all over their virtual construction site. Junkspace by Rem Koolhaas describes thi
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) giltayar 7/22/11 7:49 AM This is a feature that is useful not only for multi-user, but also for a single user. For example, I maintain two "identities" on the web - a work identity and a personal identity, which I like to keep separate. Today, I use two browsers for that (FF
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Okuda 7/22/11 8:39 AM Ok, I know this it's a draft for a new profile system, that it's on development but, seriously guys, a cupcake? With their friends the flask, the bee and the briefcase? C'mon! At least give us the chance to costumize our bloody profile image; not eve
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) iTreezy 7/22/11 2:01 PM I think they get that a majority of us dislike the change.  I would ask for this thread to be closed but I think it should remain open for people that are trying to disable it. I ask that people stop commenting on how much they dislike the change, w
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) iTreezy 7/22/11 6:15 PM New avatars.....a pizza slice, this is getting out of hand now.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Acellutor 7/22/11 7:37 PM They should replace it with a nice Chrome icon. From that icon, we can access the menu or other stuff, even profiles.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Acellutor 7/22/11 7:38 PM Edit: Like Firefox
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) RJ9999 7/22/11 8:30 PM Good lord!  How hard can it be to fix this, Google people?  Just add an icon that's a blank space.  Do it in the next 24 hours and all these very unhappy core users will love you again.  Procrastinate like you're doing and you're going to start losin
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Tyler.Durden 7/23/11 5:13 PM Cupcakes aside for a moment, this build seems to have some issues with the back/forward navigation  hanging.  Bookmarks load quickly as ever. History opened in a tab, links load fast.  Just the back/forward in tabs with deep histories hang. 14.0.825.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Larry Mac 7/24/11 7:40 AM +1 to what +Tyler.Durden said about the hangs.  If there's a separate topic for this, I haven't been able to locate it yet.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) PPNSteve 7/25/11 9:45 PM The (cup)cake is a lie!
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) xaml 7/26/11 7:24 AM @zgood I agree with you. Also see: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=60741866cdbb781c&hl=en
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Acellutor 7/26/11 8:17 AM Removed :D Now you can live happily without it... But what is the problem? You got the best browser in your hand, especially this one is for testing - why would you blame or insult programmer becauses they put in something that doesn't fit your eyes?
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) JackyH 7/26/11 10:05 AM Hi @Aceelutor thanks for your response. The "Aw snap" is a known bug, which users are discussing here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=710490f994fb70f3&hl=en In addition, here is a thread discussing this issue in our public is
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) henry4 7/26/11 9:05 PM Thank you for removing the junk from the top bar! It is awesome that you move so quickly and make such a great browser. But no one is perfect. The disdain (disregard? ignorance?) that engineers hold for culture is not as cute as you think it is. That
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) CRidge 7/27/11 12:26 AM Multiple profiles was a fantastic idea! Please bring it back! ... the cupcake I can do without, though... ;-)
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) lwallenstein 7/27/11 4:07 AM As someone who used the feature for testing multiple facebook accounts with my facebook app it was a godsend. Please bring it back... as an option.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) cmattis 7/27/11 4:52 AM HOOOORAH!  That stupid f-ing cupcake is gone!!!!  Finally!
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Aldonio 7/27/11 9:36 AM Whats wrong with the angered people? Just because you don't do anything productive in the PC it doesn't mean multiple profiles is not needed. I'm a Web Developer and use 3 different accounts, one for home use, one for web dev and one for desktop dev
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) cmattis 7/27/11 9:58 AM HOOOORAH!  That stupid f-ing cupcake is gone!!!!  Finally!
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) henry4 7/27/11 11:33 AM @Aldonio, profile switching is a power user feature and should be hidden just like the Bookmarks Bar. The visibility of the feature should be controlled by the user, just like the Bookmarks Bar!  Profiles are useful to a much smaller number of people
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Emmanuel Bouillon 7/28/11 12:45 AM I loved profils ;)
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) nd87 7/28/11 8:35 PM Hi, I happen to have loved the new feature! I started using it right away and found it very useful. I was sad when the canary version updated and it was gone. I agree that is has some kinks that need to be worked out, but really loved it. Thanks Goog
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Toni (Googler) 7/29/11 5:53 PM Hey everyone,  It sounds like some people aren't seeing answers to common questions on this thread, so I'm going to reiterate some below.  - The cupcake was never meant to be a real icon or even a default one. It was just a placeholder at the time to
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) devfuel 7/30/11 11:35 AM +1 to dev support on the _dev_ channel Oh how I love the multi-profile support that is being baked in. True, if you can't honestly think of a reason to have multiple profiles (I have one for each domain I manage to keep track of logins and relevant,
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) bg76x 8/1/11 10:26 PM Can't you move this to the wrench menu, to switch profiles? I want to use this feature, but that upper right icon, goes against Chrome's clean and uncluttered GUI.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Tombo H 8/2/11 8:04 AM When i first saw the cupcake up there  I though "how stupid, I hope that goes away soon." But after I investigated it, I found it to be an extremely useful feature, one of the best ones ever to come to chrome.  I made two profiles, a work one and a p
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Tombo H 8/2/11 8:10 AM Oh, I just read the post that said you can turn the m back on from about:flags.  Haha so disregard my previous post.  Good luck to you guys in bringing this feature to the sable release, it really is great.  And i see now that there a few more icons,
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Acellutor 8/4/11 12:52 AM Great, update to 15.0.841.0 and there is no way to remove it...
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) CTrexob 8/4/11 2:57 AM Password protect them.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Acellutor 8/4/11 4:45 PM 15.0.844.0 and it disappeared.
Re: How do I disable the multiple profile feature? (Cupcake Avatar) Tombo H 8/12/11 12:39 PM I can't seem to turn it on anymore from about: flags. And When it was there, it deleted one of my profiles : (
