|Where is print preview???||mizwag||12/19/08 7:09 AM|
Print preview is a must have. It would also be nice if you could center, enlarge, move the area to be printed to eliminate all the extra garbage on webpages.
I submitted an issue to this website. It may not help but it may call more attention to this missing feature.
|Re: Where is print preview???||ctd||12/19/08 8:27 AM|
I agree. I was actually trying to figure out how to add this option. It's the only thing that I like better about IE. Are we just missing how to add this option, or is it really not available?
|Re: Where is print preview???||SamW||12/19/08 11:00 AM|
I agree that we really need the print preview in order to preserve trees by limiting a number of printout pages. Where do we find some instructions to add the print preview in our great Google Chrome. Thanks
|Re: Where is print preview???||kikiwee||12/19/08 8:35 PM|
So far I'm using the print preview option from the printer's software side. Chrome doesn't have this feature - yet.
|Re: Where is print preview???||lean-2||12/20/08 3:18 AM|
I also agree - and page setup to change margins and port/land and zoom to fit page. Firefox has some nice buttons in print preview to do this. I was going to make Chrome my default browser as I like almost everything else - until i discovered the lack of these 2 items. A zoom control on the screen display would also be nice.
|Re: Where is print preview???||HighCountry||12/20/08 6:54 AM|
I agree, too. Chrome would be me default, too, if not for this lack.
|Re: Where is print preview???||greaselgrrl||12/21/08 11:54 AM|
Lack of print preview is the only reason so far that I'm keeping Firefox as default.
|Re: Where is print preview???||compuhank||12/24/08 11:41 AM|
Having a "Print Preview" selection is a MUST. I was going to have Chrome set as my default browser until I found out that there was no "Print Preview" button.
|Re: Where is print preview???||thedadone||12/29/08 6:23 AM|
No print preview? No print selection? Yikes. Print functions must be addressed.
|Re: Where is print preview???||pberguy||1/2/09 11:56 AM|
I absolutely agree that print preview is a must have...remember that Chrome is still Beta...I'm betting Goggle will move quickly.
When that's in place Firefox will be a distant second choice. Let me use Cool Iris in Chrome and Firefox is gone.
I just installed Chrome and it is working very well. I got very tired of Firefox & IE crashing, the instability is maddening.
The Chrome install and bookmark import went very well. Thanks Google.
I would like to see favorite features such a print/preview etc. allowed to be a user add to the bookmark bar area for quick access.
|Re: Where is print preview???||nunofgs||1/2/09 6:04 PM|
pberguy: Chrome is no longer Beta. Isn't it great? Of all the Google products they decided THIS one was ready.
|Re: Where is print preview???||slamdunk||1/19/09 2:36 AM|
I heard that the only reason Google made Chrome non-beta was because they had to in order to include Chrome with OEM distributions of Windows. Microsoft (and possibly others like Dell, HP, etc.) won't allow beta products with their manufacturer distributions.
|Re: Where is print preview???||eaglet86ostersund||1/19/09 8:41 PM|
I definitely agree: Chrome NEEDS a print preview tool! I have to use my old browser now...
|Re: Where is print preview???||xGROMx||1/19/09 9:18 PM|
Chrome needs allot of addressing before it can be considered out of Beta!
|Re: Where is print preview???||utjsh83||2/4/09 2:02 PM|
|Re: Where is print preview???||utjsh83||2/4/09 2:03 PM|
I agree!!!! and also I would like to have the save and quit feature added like mozilla has.
|Re: Where is print preview???||sailmaster||2/9/09 4:54 PM|
Just adding my voice to the choir! Ditto on all of the above!
|Re: Where is print preview???||jcdlee2||2/10/09 1:32 PM|
Yes, one more vote for print preview.
|Re: Where is print preview???||williams.vena||2/12/09 11:27 AM|
There needs to be a way to change margins and view before printing.
I have read through a few posts, but no answers yet on how to do this, only comments that it needs to be done. Also, people keep clicking the button YES for "Does this answer your question?" If you leave a comment, and it is not an answer to the problem, CLICK NO!!! even if you agree that Print preview is a must! If it continues to appear like the question is being answered, it will not get the attention it needs to be high on the priority list!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||williams.vena||2/12/09 11:31 AM|
Click here and Click Suggest it!!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||solgwr||2/12/09 11:45 AM|
Print Preview is required from within Chrome like any other good bit of software.
|Re: Where is print preview???||explore4342||2/20/09 6:27 PM|
Printing to paper?? thats so pre-2009
|Re: Where is print preview???||bobpolo||3/1/09 3:53 PM|
I agree that there needs to be a 'Print Preview' function in Chrome. As a workaround I have been printing to a .pdf format and then previewing the document there before printing.
|Re: Where is print preview???||osenbe||3/5/09 11:07 AM|
I agree! where is print preview? Please make add-on for this. Otherwise, Chrome is fast bowser and so far great!
|Re: Where is print preview???||PVTele||3/10/09 9:15 AM|
I'm delighted with Chrome, but like other readers, I need print preview. It's inexcusable to have to waste paper and ink printing from Chrome, when IE has a superb print preview feature, and Firefox a kind of adequate one!
|Re: Where is print preview???||Peter Galvin||3/21/09 8:50 AM|
I like Chrome, but I need to set the margins and print preview the page. These features are missing, and I hope they will be added!
|Re: Where is print preview???||JHS||3/24/09 7:51 AM|
No print preview? How lame and ungreen. How do I know what pages I want to print? Should I just print everything and look through? Come on Google, this is 2009.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Dinsan Francis (chromestory.com)||3/24/09 11:26 AM|
we need print preview please !!
I support this !!
|Re: Where is print preview???||silverdoll7||3/26/09 9:08 AM|
I totally agree! Just started Chrome- I LOVE IT. just need print preview and it will be my default
|Re: Where is print preview???||dar.||3/26/09 10:05 AM|
i can't remember the last time i printed from a browser - downloaded files that had to be hard copies & printed yes - but from the browser ...why? i don't think google will include print support but they should seeing as so many people seem to still feel the need
|Re: Where is print preview???||gli1n||4/6/09 8:20 AM|
we need print preview and set up margins !
because we provide web based software, and our customers needs to print checks from our software, setting up margins and print preview is really important !
|Re: Where is print preview???||mizwag||4/7/09 11:36 AM|
Bunny says all her pages print PERFECTLY in IE or FF, but then she calls any "web folx" who prints a "luddite" thus making her one as well. Furthermore, what do your toenails, rump, bust size, or self proclaimed sexy-ness have to do with Chrome? Whatever...get back to work while you still have a job. Brat.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Shawn (Googler)||4/7/09 3:09 PM|
Thanks for all the feedback. We're aware that many of you wish to see this feature and are working hard to balance this feature request amongst the many others we receive as well. Thanks for your patience and we'll be sure to update you with further progress.
PS. Everyone's opinion is welcome in this community so long as we keep it clean and respectable. Much thanks for keeping the peace and for helping generate productive, innovative discussions. :)
|Re: Where is print preview???||puffin01||4/10/09 8:22 AM|
You report that you are working on a solution. Can we have a timescale please? Print Preview is ESSENTIAL !!
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bunny38D||4/12/09 10:15 PM|
Speaking as a "clean and respectable" person - and I have been so now for several years! - I must take offense at Mizwag's incoherent innuendo.
I have not been a "brat" for at least 3 years.
Ever since I gave up Lynx and Konquerer and that silly ol' Amaya.
Yes, I do look forward to the print-preview! But until then I shall keep my job (I hope) by checking in frequently for the "fix".
(Tee hee! I haven't used THAT term in years!)
I must say- "productive, innovative discussions" can sometimes use a bit of humour, if only to relieve the boredom of this incessant checking in to see that print preview is still not available.
Why, my friends at slashdot appear more erudite than some... ahhh.. bluestockings here....
|Re: Where is print preview???||rgallier||4/18/09 3:33 PM|
Use a free PDF Printer such as BullZip and create a special Preview Printer. Then configure the printer to print to a temporary PDF or TIF and automatically open the created temporary file in the appropriate viewer. This gives you the ability to "Preview" from any application yet you can still print from the viewer or the main application.
|Re: Where is print preview???||thomae||4/25/09 11:58 AM|
Without the ability to print preview and change scale/sizing, The usefulness of this browser decreases exponentially. With the plethora of online payments and financial transactions, people save web receipts (typically either as hard copy or PDF files) and need/want to be able to check that they are legible prior to printing so as to not WASTE TIME and/or paper.
|Re: Where is print preview???||innerwhispersheri||5/9/09 5:10 PM|
I too am interested in Print Preview. When would this happen, assuming that it will happen???? Otherwise I love this browser. One reason is that I can send web pages to print landscape to my wireless printer while it doesn't work in IE! I have no problem with my hard wired printer, but it should work with both, don't you think? So I am glad it works in Chrome. If we just had that print preview option I would be using Chrome as my default browser. Thanks!
|Re: Where is print preview???||etw||5/16/09 10:58 AM|
ditto - add print preview soon!
|Re: Where is print preview???||Muirhevna||5/19/09 11:11 AM|
Five months on with these requests for a print preview and no action. Do the guys at Google Chrome even read these pages, never mind care about their users?
|Re: Where is print preview???||Frank in NY||5/20/09 6:21 AM|
The main reason I don't use Google for all of my day-to-day work is because of it's inability to adjust print settings (well, that and piss poor Acrobat support).
The inability to change even the rudimentary print settings is a complete wtf.
|Re: Where is print preview???||1stew||5/20/09 12:00 PM|
This still needs fixing I need to be able to select things to print. This is a BASIC feature. Please prioritize this. I like a Chrome a lot but this bird dung marring the finish of a fabulous browser.
|Re: Where is print preview???||drivingdirections||5/24/09 2:05 PM|
A browser without a print preview tool is like a car without rear view mirrors or like shoes without shoelaces. If Chrome is faster only because lack of the print preview tool makes it faster, then it is useless making yet another browser. It's not in beta anymore and it has no print preview tool? Yet another Internet Outlook Express? Microsoft explains they don't include print preview tool in OE for a security purpose. I'm looking to switch! How can such essential element as print preview be missing from a browser? It's like human body without teeth, - can chew somehow, but what's the point living? I bet at least 90% of people don't use Chrome because of this reason. There's more - it puzzles me how can Google eliminate such essential tool from a new browser!? How....??? I will not use Chrome until there are at least minimal essential tools included in it.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Gary Colin||5/25/09 3:03 PM|
No print preview! You got to be kidding!
Back to Mozilla as default for me.
|Re: Where is print preview???||dkrt||5/29/09 11:36 AM|
I pay bills online and most companies do not offer the option to print the payment confirmation from their website. It infuriates me that they don't because I do not have the cleared checks or a receipt as proof of payment. The only thing I have is the screen that tells me my payment has been accepted. Once I close that screen, the confirmation is no longer available to me. I need print preview to make sure I am getting the confirmation/reference number on my printout in the event a company claims I did not make my payment.
|Re: Where is print preview???||holdibus||6/1/09 8:49 AM|
does anyone really know why google did not built in a print preview feature ? It is still not available in the new beta. Are there technical reasons or do chrome developers really think that this feature is not important or needed ? This is very strange to me...
|Re: Where is print preview???||Faleloncio||6/2/09 4:14 AM|
Hi. We are using Chrome 188.8.131.52
We print large bulletins in XHTML strict. Only IE 8 (some months ago IE 7 too, but not now) prints our bulletin pages exactly like in screen. FF is similar, but not exact, and Chrome has a lot of work on this, apart of "Print Preview":
- Adjustable margins
- Configurable page header and footer (Chrome not shows all URL text like IE or FF do)
But everything about Chrome is FANTASTIC, really fast and respect all standards.
GOOD JOB GOOGLE
|Re: Where is print preview???||smhunting||6/17/09 2:12 PM|
Print preview is ESSENTIAL - I can't believe it's not there. I agree with others, I was going to have GC as my default browser until I discovered this omission.
|Re: Where is print preview???||capttuna||6/17/09 5:49 PM|
I NEED PRINT PREVIEW NOW! THIS WAS TOUTED AS THE LATEST AND GREATEST BUT WITHOUT PREVIOUS ESSENTIAL FEATURES IT IS A GIANT STEP BACKWARDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||9Rwatson||6/19/09 12:41 PM|
Google quality is falling off and it is showing up in their work products. With all the special routines Google wrote to help Communist China filter free speech and eliminate anything that wasn't groupthink, I'm surprised they couldn't add a print preview and text function to their browser.
|Re: Where is print preview???||lyndeelu||6/19/09 6:56 PM|
C;mon Google - what's the timeframe please to print preview and sorting out the margin issues. Thanks
|Re: Where is print preview???||GYFO||6/20/09 9:07 AM|
You've gotta be kidding! No print preview! I'll stick with my old web browser. Way to go Google. Mozilla Firefox is still the King.
|Re: Where is print preview???||bluemoonicecream||7/1/09 4:17 PM|
No print preview - No Google Chrome! That simple. This is not even debatable.
|Re: Where is print preview???||sjeffh||7/11/09 8:49 AM|
Nothing new here... Chrome needs print preview. It's that simple
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bob49b||7/12/09 1:45 PM|
You may already have, or can install, a print to PDF application like PDF995, CutePDF, or Win2PDF. In Chrome simply print to the PDF file output and use the result as a viewer until Chrome provides a viewer.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bigalby||7/13/09 1:06 AM|
I used your tip to print to PDF.
I can now store the pages I need, so I can read them off line - it also saves paper and ink.
Google Chrome is rapidly becoming my Browser of choice, but Yes it does need print preview and some of the other printing controls suggested by others.
|Re: Where is print preview???||CMJRoss||7/18/09 7:14 AM|
Does anyone know why they are steadfastly refusing to add a print preview feature? I mean, it's not as if they don't know that it's needed/wanted. Do they foresee the downfall of civilization by denying us this feature?
|Re: Where is print preview???||kevinstonge||7/18/09 8:30 AM|
I don't mind the absence of the Print Preview feature (although printing in general seems buggy right now... I usually need to print from IE).
the Print Preview feature in all applications is somewhat redundant because most printer drivers include a print preview capability that is more likely to give an accurate rendering of the printer output anyway.
Anyway. The short term solution to this is to either print from another browser, OR turn on the print preview feature that comes with your printer's drivers (which I recommend!).
I am sure Google will add this feature eventually because everybody wants it.
|Re: Where is print preview???||enigma7||7/18/09 8:23 PM|
Print Preview and Zoom is MANDATORY ! Trees are precious, ink is too expensive, and simplicity is to be Chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||simwit||7/22/09 3:42 PM|
I agree with everyone else. I keep having to revert to IE to print out web pages so the fill 1 sheet rather than several. This must surely be a high priority update. Other than this, Chrome is still my favourite browser.
|Re: Where is print preview???||jeamel8||7/23/09 4:49 PM|
It appears a rep from Google hasn't responded since April to this question. This is ridiculous !.
Guess I will go back to either IE or FF even though I had problems with both from time to time. I print often ....just about every day....so it's a swift pain to have to take extra steps every time I want to print something. Bye bye Google Chrome........
|Re: Where is print preview???||gilbeccu||7/26/09 1:25 AM|
Obviously I agree on the fact it is ridiculous Chrome doesn't have the print preview function.
Also, I would find very useful, and it would be really easy to implement, the "Print even/odd pages" function.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Toni (Googler)||7/28/09 5:10 PM|
Thanks for continuing to give us feedback regarding this feature.
Please know that we hear you, and as Shawn mentioned above, we are working hard to balance this request among others as we develop our product. We'll keep you all posted with any updates on this!
|Re: Where is print preview???||lyndeelu||7/29/09 6:21 PM|
Toni - I would be interested to know what Google consider to be of a higher priority than getting the print preview/functionality sorted - since it is of evidently high priority for users as demonstrated by the comments in this forum.
|Re: Where is print preview???||JoelThePlumber||7/29/09 6:24 PM|
It is nice to be heard but my take on "working hard to balance this request among others" tells me not to hold my breath. Disappointing.
Print preview is an essential function. Chrome is my browser of choice but I've changed back to IE for my default browser because PP is missing. Whenever anyone asks me about Chrome I say great BUT no PP.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't find myself needing to print while in Chrome session. Sometimes I can just cut and paste the link in an IE session, but often I have to login (again) and navigate (again) to the web page I want. Think of trying to print preview something from Charles Schwab (or your financial site). Print blind from Chrome and at the very least get unwanted pages of disclaimers. Often toner wasting unwanted graphics.
When I say print preview, I need the functions such as "print current page; print page range; print even/odd pages".
Very, very annoying and I'm sure the absence of PP is holding back greater acceptance of Chrome.
Please "rebalance" the requests queue.
|Re: Where is print preview???||bobwar||8/9/09 8:11 AM|
I too am waiting for PP. It is a very important feature and is causing Chrome to lose perspective customers.
|Re: Where is print preview???||gdraque||8/10/09 9:27 AM|
Print preview is a total must. It has to be in GChrome!
|Re: Where is print preview???||dr.pharma||8/15/09 3:35 AM|
print preview is a must to be found in Gchrome as i can't copy and paste anything to print what i need and also i can't find print a selected area or something like that
|Re: Where is print preview???||dwight.stegall||8/17/09 8:52 PM|
If you have a HP Printer here is a Print Preview and Page Size workaround. http://markmail.org/message/5pzu6i6fj4btz2mv
|Re: Where is print preview???||DavidPollak||8/18/09 10:08 AM|
Come on, Google! Time to implement the Print Preview function! We need a hotfix to address that now!!
Thank you very much
|Re: Where is print preview???||J-Mac||8/21/09 11:56 AM|
Balance? Print Preview is a very basic feature, not a "nice-to-do" thing. Before Google adds any other features they should at least include the basic features that they left out of this browser. Unfortunately Google's history shows that features left out of early beta versions almost never are added later. I saw the same with Gmail and GDS. Google only leaves out such basics when someone leading the development team feels that it is not a useful feature.
|Re: Where is print preview???||J-Mac||8/21/09 12:01 PM|
BTW, Canon printers have the same workaround that has been posted here for HP printers. Most mainstream printers probably have it. Basically, from the Print... dialog select Preferences and both Canon and HP have a selection to "Preview before Printing". Certainly unwieldy, though. Some Canons allow you to create a print profile for different applications so you could save a profile for printing in Chrome if your printer ot All-In-One has that feature.
|Re: Where is print preview???||PhantomGP01||8/25/09 1:24 PM|
For those of you who says there is a print preview feature for the printers, this is not true for all printers. I have a HP LaserJet 1200 (and 1300) and it does not have one. Does that mean I'm forced to buy a new printer that has this feature until then?
|Re: Where is print preview???||JoelThePlumber||8/25/09 5:25 PM|
No print preview on my Dell 1700n printer.
|Re: Where is print preview???||bwell||8/26/09 9:13 AM|
Wow! Really? No Print Preview? I thought I just didn't know where to look.
|Re: Where is print preview???||rlafica||9/1/09 8:43 AM|
I used chrome at work when it first came out and enjoyed its quick response times. When I could not use print preview to save wasted paper, this was a deal breaker for me. I switched back to FF after that. I will not use chrome until there is a working print preview function. If google wants their browser to be widely excepted they need to include this critical feature. This has been an issue for over a year now, whats the hold up? Do they only have 1 or 2 developers working on chrome?
|Re: Where is print preview???||joelseph||9/15/09 5:29 AM|
This is one of the only reasons I drop back to firefox. This is very irritating. Also having the zoom option like firefox has would be wonderful.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Gutsy Gail||9/15/09 3:13 PM|
I can't believe that a smart outfit like Google wouldn't have included something as basic as Print Preview. Hey Google guys, you finally got some rain so how about adding this feature!
|Re: Where is print preview???||topcatchambers||9/17/09 4:14 AM|
+1 for print preview
|Re: Where is print preview???||lblack61||9/17/09 4:54 AM|
Ditto on what Mizwag and CTg said.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||9/17/09 5:32 AM|
Yes, Print Preview is an essential feature. It's absence is a show stopper as far as I am concerned.
I often wish to print an item and I use the Firefox print preview facility to adjust the layout (100%, 80% of full size or whatever) to achieve a good page fit and select just the pages I need.
I have just printed a news item via Chrome - 2 useful pages and a wasted with 3 lines of junk.
Come on Google, help us all "Save some trees"!
PS: Contrary to the suggestion of an earlier contributor, and echoed by one or two others, the print driver for my HP1022n Laserjet does NOT include any preview facility. And I have just checked the HP web site to verify I have the latest driver. Maybe this facility is confined to "superior" printers and is not offeredon cheaper laserjets?
|Re: Where is print preview???||JoelThePlumber||9/17/09 6:14 AM|
I just downloaded Chrome 3.0 and still no print preview. Alas. Subsequently I installed Firefox 3.5. Goodbye Chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||curlytoe||9/21/09 11:28 AM|
"Print Preview" and print selections are an absolute MUST HAVE!!!
It would also be nice if you could center, enlarge, move the area to be printed to eliminate all the extra garbage on webpages.
It's the only thing that I like better about IE.
I agree that we really need the print preview in order to preserve trees by limiting a number of printout pages.
Page setup to change margins and port/land and zoom to fit page.
Firefox & IE are both way ahead of Chrome as regards print functionality.
I use "Print Preview" and print selections A LOT and IE has the best features.
There needs to be a way to change margins and view before printing.
IE has a superb print preview feature, and Firefox (overrated) a kind of adequate one!
I need to set the margins and print preview the page.
Because of web-based applications (like online shops, online banking etc), people making online payments and other financial transactions need to be able to print invoices / receipts, bookings references etc from the browsers; setting up margins and print preview is therefore really important!
Without the ability to Print Preview and change scale/sizing, Chrome's usefulness is greatly reduced. I am forced to use IE.
Configurable page header and footer.
No print preview - No Google Chrome! That simple.
I keep having to revert to IE to print out web pages.
I'd find the "Print even/odd pages" function very useful.
All functions which IE & FF have, such as "print current page; print page range; print even/odd pages".
Portrait / Landscape.
Page Setup: Paper Options; Headers and Footers; Margins; Change Font
Turn Headers and Footers on or off.
View Full Width or View Full Page.
1, 2, 3, 6, 12 page view.
Zoom: Shrink to fit; 30% - 200%; Custom.
Print Preview is an ESSENTIAL feature, not a "nice-to-do" thing.
I find the ability to turn Headers and Footers on or off easily (one button) very useful.
I will not use Chrome until there is a working "Print Preview" function (with all print functions).
|Re: Where is print preview???||Tom27||9/21/09 1:16 PM|
I'm a huge fan of Chrome, but it is basically disgraceful that such a staple feature it STILL absent. It should have been in the original stable release of Chrome 1.0. This is the only major modern browser without such a feature. 03D, native client, yadda yadda--these are the types of features you develop after you have basic functionality. How Google STILL has not resolved this is amazing to me, and I'm as big a fanboy of them as there is. I must have a half dozen friends who would all switch to Chrome tomorrow if only it had print preview. The list of things they have prioritized ahead of such a basic feature is just shocking to me. We've had how many releases now, and no mention of this?
Come on Google, get it together.
|Re: Where is print preview???||rmejia||9/25/09 12:43 PM|
This has been the main gripe at the office. We always print preview before printing anything, to avoid mistakes. Please add this feature.
|Re: Where is print preview???||GeorgeDixon||9/28/09 8:54 AM|
I am new to all this, but I ceretainly agree there should be a "Print Preview" before I print.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Felix 2||9/28/09 4:00 PM|
Now that the print selection has arrived in the new version I downloaded, I wonder how many more years before the Preview will be sorted!,
|Re: Where is print preview???||Spreadborough||10/1/09 1:23 PM|
Add me to the multitude of users that require print preview. Come on Google, after over 1 year you would think this staple feature that should have been part of original release would be finally included. The lack of print preview with scaling is the main reason Chrome is not my default browser, and often goes unused.
|Re: Where is print preview???||imolgen||10/1/09 7:57 PM|
Print preview please please!
|Re: Where is print preview???||thanatop||10/2/09 12:12 PM|
Real solid environmental responsibility. I guess I'll just print out a ream of paper to "test" if my printing is correct. No print preview = no use for Chrome. I'll sit this version out.
|Re: Where is print preview???||transpar3nt||10/5/09 11:02 PM|
I need preview because I develop a web app that absolutely requires that my print CSS is perfect. Right now to test Chrome printing, I print-to-PDF and test it that way to save paper, but like everyone else here, this is a must for many people.
|Re: Where is print preview???||audiocinevideo||10/6/09 5:13 AM|
Currently I just have Chrome installed because Firefox Copy/Past sometimes stop working, and I can't afford to use IE, not ever. Also Chrome turns of my computer sometimes when I'm surfing, this never happens with any other browser.
Insert a print preview now, or google chrome sucks.

No print preview is the main reason I don't use Chrome
|Re: Where is print preview???||anooska||10/14/09 7:24 AM|
I don't want to sound rude, and as much as I love google chrome for being so fast and simple, I'd have to agree with everyone here.. print preview is not even an "extra feature" to add... its a problem to fix. Its simply required in any application. Not having it is like not being able to smell your food before you eat it. I mean, even windows wordpad has that option. It doesn't just stop you from being able to see what your about to print, it stops people from "testing" for print pages and newsletters. For example, I'm working on a newsletter right now and my client wants it to be printable cross platform (since each browser prints differently). How am I supposed to test that on google chrome?.. I can't keep printing every single time while testing for margins and spacing, I'd waste like 1500 pieces of paper and 3 ink cartages doing just that. Again, I don't mean to be rude, it just really irritated me that I couldn't test in this browser.
|Re: Where is print preview???||np0804||10/15/09 2:36 PM|
Google: Let me know when you add print preview. You'll find me elsewhere until then.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Tergulath||10/15/09 5:37 PM|
wow 1+year and print preview is nowhere to be found. Like others have said it shouldn't be an addon, but built in.
Gmail team has the same problem not implementing a preview pane instead of going for smilies faces and tetris.
|Re: Where is print preview???||cjanago||10/16/09 7:28 AM|
Add me to the list. I love Google Chrome, but I keep a copy of FireFox handy because I NEED print preview.
COME ON... The tool is great. Google team is great! How hard can "Print Preview" be?
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||10/16/09 1:33 PM|
Google is evidently reluctant to give us a print preview in the Chrome browser.
Is this because they intend that a print preview function - and all the associated control of layout, sizing, which pages are printed, etc - should be part of the Chrome OS?
That would actually be quite logical. If a rich preview and print control function is provided in the OS, then there's no need for each application to provide it's own.
If one sat down with blank sheet of paper to decide which functions should be provided by the system or by each application, I think I would end up saying print preview etc should be a system level function.
This would explain it's absence from the Chrome browser and from Gmail when we all agree it is an important capability.
So, when do we see the Chrome OS?

Chrome MUST HAVE: 1) print preview 2) load PDF files!!!!
Otherwise, it is an inferior product.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Writeacher||10/27/09 8:09 AM|
In addition to print preview, it'd be nice simply to have a print icon on the toolbar -- right next to the "refresh" icon. I am able to set this up in IE and Firefox -- why not in Chrome?
|Re: Where is print preview???||aloisa||10/27/09 8:21 AM|
Yes, yes, yes!!! Not only print preview is essential, but adjusting font size at same time would be nice too.

|Re: Where is print preview???||However||11/15/09 6:55 AM|
I basically only use Chrome for "slow" loading sites that I know I won't need to print anything from. Which means I'm only using Chrome 5% of the time. Too bad. I'm also still suffering from the lack of any sound problem so I don't use Chrome if I'm going to a site with sound.
Why is Chrome only "half" a browser? Have they stopped working on it and plan to scuttle it soon?
|Re: Where is print preview???||fholin||11/15/09 11:10 AM|
Amen to all of the above. I, too, use Firefox >95% of the time because of the lack of print preview. Seems callous of the folks at Google to ignore this thread, doesn't it? They want us to buy into all things Google, but don't respond.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||11/15/09 12:18 PM|
With rumours about that Google will very soon tell us more about the Chrome OS, I will repeat what I said earlier: I bet the print preview capability will appear as part of the OS.
Quite how this helps us Windows users, I do not know. Unless ... Google ship some sort of Chrome middleware between their browser and other applications and Windows.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Tonyelmocano||11/19/09 7:24 PM|
I cannot believe Google didn't include a print preview in Chrome. I very disappointed.
|Re: Where is print preview???||lookoutpi||11/20/09 9:24 PM|

|Re: Where is print preview???||baribob||11/24/09 1:42 PM|
this is a deal breaker. Back to firefox.
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||11/28/09 1:20 PM|
Yeah, this is essential. I am greatful that chrome is such a great product, extensions are easy to make, themes are easy to make too! One thing at a time I guess, but yes, print preview really is important.
|Re: Where is print preview???||SkiWizzard||11/29/09 9:21 AM|
I was hoping to find an answer I liked here. No such luck. I have to go back to IE, because Chrome does not feature a 'print preview' option. That's too bad.
|Re: Where is print preview???||kenb123||12/2/09 11:43 AM|
I just installed Chrome a couple of days ago and was very happy with it...until I needed to print a map! Ditto to all comments above. I'm headed back to IE.

and suggest print preview. It's weird they didn't think of this..
|Re: Where is print preview???||DennisMileHi||12/9/09 11:01 AM|
I just started using Chrome when my old IE 6 (and the Maxthon browser) wouldn't show some pages correctly. Everything looks great until I saw how Chrome prints and there is NO print preview. Unbelievable!! Anyway, I installed the new IE Tab extension which allows you to show pages using Chrome as it would appear with IE. The side benefit is that when you right click on the page, the pop-up window that appears is the IE window, not Chrome. When selecting Print, the printout prints as if it were from IE!! This means old margins and rendering are done correctly, not the small way that Chrome apparently does the rendering. While there is no Print Preview available, it does help when printing. So, I guess I'll keep Chrome as my default and use IE Tab for printing. BTW, the print option under the Control the Current Page icon only prints the Chrome top of the IE Tab window, not any of the IE page shown below. So, you have to use right click to get the IE printing to work. Hope this helps somebody.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Chapster48||12/10/09 10:09 AM|

|Re: Where is print preview???||landwrox||12/15/09 8:11 PM|
wow, initial post was a year ago and this still isn't here. I understand you must get a lot of requests but it would be nice if a tech posted a "print preview beta" or something.
Honestly this is the only feature i am forced to switch to Firefox on, other features I don't miss...
|Re: Where is print preview???||Wokisan||12/22/09 6:05 PM|
Been trying to use Chrome more and more but lack of such a basic feature is puzzling to say the least. Firefox can get bloated but it is worth that just to have print preview. I feel that is how important this feature is.
|Re: Where is print preview???||mdawson22||12/24/09 9:36 AM|
If you have the beta of Chrome, there's an extension that works reasonably well for print preview. html2pdf gives you one-click creation of a temporary pdf that opens automatically. It adds a tab to your browser that you have to close out of after you do the "print preview" and there aren't options for changing anything on the printout (since a pdf is sort of printed already), but if your goal is simply to save trees by viewing things before you print, it's well worth it.
|Re: Where is print preview???||QQFarmer||12/24/09 10:03 AM|
@mdawson22, great tip. To use

PP - An astounding omission!
|Re: Where is print preview???||wrobertdavis||1/3/10 7:56 AM|
I deleted Google Chrome after trialing the original release. After reading a local newspaper columnist note (go try the latest - you may be surprised), I just reinstalled. Very quickly I came to appreciate Chrome. Just as quickly, I needed print preview and couldn't find it. I'm going to go ahead and delete Chrome and will come back when it has print preview.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Nas Hashmi||1/5/10 7:19 PM|
130 replies say that Print Preview is a necessary option. I just cannot get my technical genius brain to understand why they did not put this feature in. Could be because they are trying to do it in the "browser" so to speak.
That is tough.
|Re: Where is print preview???||rdd1003||1/8/10 3:07 PM|
Great browser except for no Print Preview function! Curious, has anyone heard why it's hasn't been incorporated ?
|Re: Where is print preview???||wattski||1/9/10 1:16 PM|
Just started to use Chrome and found that there's no print preview. This is an absolute must have. Sooner as opposed to later, or back to IE I go.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Florianjl||1/12/10 6:25 AM|
It's a deal breaker for me too. I use Print Preview multiple times per day, and it's essential for me. I would also like to see a Menu Bar for greater flexibility. Firefox has it. Google Chrome should be able to duplicate every useful feature in Firefox, and then some.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||1/12/10 6:32 AM|
Google Chrome should be able to duplicate every useful feature in Firefox,
If GC duplicated all feature in FF, why not just use FF? Its different. That's the point.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Saschski||1/13/10 4:41 AM|
I have recently switched to Chrome as my browser of choice and my boss recently asked me for my opinion on rolling out Google Chrome across the enterprise... I had to tell him that I use Chrome and every time I want to print something I open IE to get the Print Preview. This is extremely irritating.
Print Preview is essential when trying to print web pages that have not been optimized for print, as I am able to select which pages; how many pages; which range of pages or even if it is worth printing it out at all. I sometimes find that with the help of Print Preview I have to copy the web page text that I originally wanted to print and paste it into another program before printing. All of these factors help reduce paper waste.
|Re: Where is print preview???||timebandit||1/13/10 3:39 PM|
Not having Print Preview is a show stopper for me. It also needs to have the options for setting or eliminating headers and footers and setting the margins like Firefox or IE.
|Re: Where is print preview???||robjurd||1/18/10 5:32 PM|
I also have a pdf printer that i use to print preview but it is annoying. I agree with Saschski purely on the basis of dealing with the everyday user, not the nerd who can switch between browsers to do what they want. Most people in my office use FF because that's all they know and everyone uses print preview. You take that away and I would be inundated with questions wasting my time and theirs, just not worth the agony
|Re: Where is print preview???||Jim Selleck||1/21/10 6:50 AM|
I'm a web developer, creating a printable web page. My boss told me to test using all of the "major" browsers, including Chrome. After looking for the Print Preview function for a couple of hours, I found out that it does not exist. "Sorry," I had to tell the boss, "but our users just won't be able to use Chrome because it is missing that absolutely essential feature."
We had to put a note on the site "This site has been tested and certified on all popular browsers. Regretfully, you can not use Google Chrome for the printable pages because their printing functions are limited."
Is anybody at Google listening? How many people have to say it? PRINT PREVIEW IS NOT AN OPTION. It is essential. The browser is not finished.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Nas Hashmi||1/22/10 3:05 PM|
I think there is of putting print preview, however it won't be as the printer prints it, but rather the condition of the common printer.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Stuart_gc||1/25/10 4:07 AM|
Google why haven't you fixed this - it's so simple, I found this and yes, it works, as least for an HP printer;
1. open Google chrome-
2.right click the bookmarks bar, and select add page
3.in the name box, input the word print
5. make sure that the bookmarks bar folder is selected and then click OK
6: The print icon will appear on the bookmarks bar and if you select the area you want to print before clicking it, the print selection button will be enabled on your (HP) printer
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||1/25/10 5:30 AM|
that gives you the print box with options, but does not give print preview, or select whole page/current frame
|Re: Where is print preview???||essentially tight||1/25/10 7:02 AM|
The world is changing my friends. Those who adapt will prosper, but those who do not will be left behind. Very soon an encrypted trusted digital copy will be worth far more than anything on paper. Plus new displays that reflect light rather than beam light into the eye further erode the benefits of Print. The time to say good bye to Print Preview is now.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||1/25/10 7:48 AM|
While i don't do a lot of printing, i've yet to be convinced that an adequate replacement for a bit of A4 paper with a map of how to find the radiology dept of the local hospital has yet been developed.
This development needs to be waterproof (down to a depth of 50m), disposable and accept annotations.
Print preview is still needed.
Its not "essential" as most web based information is read on screen and i don't need a copy, but its something that makes me switch back to IE every now and then
|Re: Where is print preview???||Writeacher||1/25/10 10:03 AM|
Thanks, Stuart_gc. That's perfect! I don't need print preview, just a print button somewhere, and this works perfectly. Hooray!
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||1/26/10 1:59 AM|
If you just want to print, then <ctrl>+P works as does Pagemenu>print
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||1/26/10 8:26 AM|
Install Foxit Reader which will allow you to print PDFs (it's free.) What you see is a pdf of the page (a preview.)

|Re: Where is print preview???||Heyboer||2/1/10 2:41 PM|
Did my post meet Google's threshold to add Print Preview? This post has been going since April! And still we don't have it. So now I have to log out of my secure sites, start firefox, log back in to my secure sites so I can get a print preview with some options to see if something will print right. Why not stick with FF?
Seriously great tool! I love Chrome! But flabbergasted, flummoxed and perplexed with this whole lack of Print-Preview thing.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Slightly Askew||2/4/10 2:37 PM|
So, with all the CSS differences in browsers, how am I supposed to test the print output of my pages? I, too, feel I'm going to have to put a disclaimer on my development projects that states, "Printing from the Chrome browser is not supported on these pages". I refuse to physically print every page I design just to see if the print.css layout looks right on Chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||2/5/10 10:30 AM|
Please add print preview! This is a shocking weekpoint.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Stefan vd||2/5/10 11:21 AM|

|Re: Where is print preview???||mhphil||2/7/10 5:45 PM|
Gotta have Print Preview! Chrome would be my default browser but for this.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Salidwyn||2/14/10 3:09 PM|
I agree here. I tested out Chrome a couple months ago and LOVED it! I have a tablet PC with very little screen real estate (1024x768) so the fact that 1/5 of my screen wasn't taken up by an address bar, bookmark bars and other stuff was wonderful. I did have some trouble with some video sites (even with the codecs loaded, sometimes they just wouldn't work) and that was really the only hangup I had.
Then I needed to print something and instead of 1 page of directions, I ended up with 3 in print so large, you could read it a mile away. I own a laser printer because I print so rarely that my ink cartridges were drying up in between uses but when I do print something, I like to use as little paper as possible and like to preview it first to make sure it's going to be readable and not take up a lot of extra pages for no reason. The omission of a print preview option is a dealbreaker for me. I tried hoping back over to FF just to print but it wasn't the smooth experience I needed, as many many others have already mentioned. I have the full version of Acrobat so I can make PDFs, but they still end up taking up too much space and take just as long as just opening up FF and printing from there.
It's a really really great browser and I'm sorry to not be able to use it. When they get this one thing implemented, I'll happily switch back over but not until then. It's really unfortunate this option was overlook and has STILL been overlooked.

The following extension will give you 'Print Preview' in Google Chrome. IE Tab will allow you to open a page and view it as if you were using Internet Explorer. After installation click on IE Tab icon then right-click the page and click on 'Print Preview' Count 5 buttons from the left, on the Print Preview toolbar, click that to toggle headers and footers off and on. You will need Chrome version 184.108.40.206 or newer. https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/hehijbfgiekmjfkfjpbkbammjbdenadd
|Re: Where is print preview???||nsimeonov||2/17/10 7:30 PM|
You're totally missing the point!
If I wanted IE to render the page and print it, I can open IE directly not as chrome tab. There are lots of differences between IE and Chrome/WebKit browsers and one page may look totally different depending on the browser.
IETab sucks and it isn't any solution at all
|Re: Where is print preview???||nsimeonov||2/17/10 7:30 PM|
dwight.stegall, can you please stop advertising IE Tab?
|Re: Where is print preview???||walkergeoff||2/19/10 9:34 AM|
I found IE tab a useful workaround, but Print Preview is an essential of any application. It cannot be the hardest thing to implement. I will still use Chrome as I think it is the best in so many ways. but Google ought to concentrate on this rather than trying to out-Facebook Facebook!
|Re: Where is print preview???||mdeb45||2/20/10 8:39 AM|

Yes, Print Preview is a definite 'must-have' for Google Chrome.
The Print Button is useless because you have no control of how your documents will print!

@novasian maybe that's it. Back to firefox for me.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Ando82||3/1/10 4:12 PM|
Still no print-preview? As a workaround, you can install "view tab in IE" extension and then use 'print preview' from there. But seriously, there should be no need for a workaround at this point. Please google give us print-preview, there is ZERO control over how documents will print without it. It's already March 2010!!!!
Lol and if there needs to be an 'environmental' reason for putting it in, think of how much paper is wasted because of incorrect print outs without print preview! I've had documents that I thought were 1 page somehow come out to 8 pages because of some web kink.

A year of requests for print preview and still nothing?
|Re: Where is print preview???||No print preview||3/15/10 10:50 AM|
I'd be embarrased if I was part of the Chrome development team. At parties I think I would tell everyone that I'm working on gmail or something.
Tried Chrome, liked it. No pp, back to FF and IE. Over one year, losing users left and right. For every one person posting here, how many thousands are silently dismissing Chrome as a viable browser due to this lack of basic functionality?
|Re: Where is print preview???||No print preview||3/15/10 10:53 AM|
Can anyone from google tell us specifically why this feature has not been developed?
Has it not made it to the top of the "critical functionality" list yet? (should have been there from the start).
Is there no budget for it?
Is it even on the list? If so, when is this basic functionality scheduled to be released?
Does anyone at Google even care?
I'm serious here.
|Re: Where is print preview???||catrancher||3/15/10 2:49 PM|
The one IE feature I really use and like is print preview. I'm very disappointed that Chrome is missing this basic function. But I'm also disappointed that Firefox doesn't offer the "print selected on screen" option. We can bash IE all we want, but they do sometimes get it right.
|Re: Where is print preview???||catphd1994||3/16/10 7:51 AM|
I really like most of the features of Chrome, but the inability to preview pages prior to printing is a definite drawback. Not only that, it is becoming a liability to Google as users migrate back to FF, IE...

|Re: Where is print preview???||5743||3/20/10 8:43 AM|
Print preview is a necessity. I haven't sent anything straight to the printer without a preview for some years now, and I'm not about to start. I'll be on the lookout for the print preview feature; meanwhile Firefox remains my browser of choice.
|Re: Where is print preview???||TallJimS||3/21/10 9:56 AM|
I can't believe that there is no print preview feature in Chrome. Simply cannot believe it. It shows that even a big wealthy successful corporation can be deaf and blind to obvious problems with its software. I guess Google are proving that they can be as "american" as GM or Microsoft. ;-) In the mean time, on a PC, one can use the Prnt Sc button, open MS Paint, and cut the part of the image you want adjust printing properties before wasting paper.

|Re: Where is print preview???||faceplants||3/26/10 12:12 PM|
I agree with everyone else. Print preview and print selection with margin and zoom control are essential features for any true web browser. I love chrome but in a fickle world...it only takes a few small things to lose your user-base. Please add this. Chrome is soo much better than Firefox and IE but I hate switching between browsers b/c I want to print

|Re: Where is print preview???||Quantumfoam||4/5/10 9:18 AM|
I was shocked beyond belief to find this thread and see how long its gone on without being addressed.
Well Google. You've done it. Your goal of becoming as big as Microsoft has been attained.
Now, the split second solutions emerge that are comparable to yours, by vendors with an attitude towards their enthusiasts that you USED to have, you will begin to loose such advocates. And not just passively lose. You know darned well how immensely important word of mouth was in your ascension. That same word of mouth, when applied negatively is going to kill you.
To be true and fair, its tough to be big and balance all the needs. But the only way to do so is to listen.
|Re: Where is print preview???||twodise5||4/9/10 8:24 AM|
Why isn't this being taken care of? What do you need from us in order to get this done? I'm sure there are many developers out there that could write up some kind of extension for pp. Give us the tools and we'll do the rest. Or, you could spend some of your billions of dollars of profit to hire someone/team to do this.
I like Chrome and I don't want to switch, but you give me no choice by not addressing this issue. WHY ARE YOU IGNORING US?
|Re: Where is print preview???||cadoGang||4/14/10 7:29 AM|

I think BOTH of these need higher priority. Neither are currently assigned.

I don't understand what other issue can be ahead on the list than Print Preview. Must people use print preview before printing. The lack of this feature on Chrome is mind boggling.
Agree with user ajaac, C'MON google, one step away from having the best browser! Sadly that one step makes IE better, darn.
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||4/22/10 4:20 AM|
I think Google are afraid to look at this support forum.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Mno_91||4/23/10 10:11 PM|
I have the same issue. I just love chrome, but then I also have to open IE in a separate window and go through the whole login and everything to reach the page i want to print. Print preview is an essential tool for a browser!
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||4/24/10 1:57 AM|
Use primo print, or bullzip pdf. Don't get heated up about this one issue.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Jessy0384||4/28/10 5:50 PM|
The PP option is really necesary....sin eso no puedo trabajar... :(
|Re: Where is print preview???||Spreadborough||4/29/10 4:25 PM|
and click on the Suggest it button for Print preview. Every vote / suggestion for print preview in Chrome may help increase this as a priority issue. Hopefully they will resolve this some day, as I like Chrome and IEtab isn't the ideal solution, especially with secure sites, etc.
|Re: Where is print preview???||boatbeat||5/3/10 8:09 AM|
Print to the open source product "PDF Creator" & it works fine for me, then I print the needed pages in the desired configuration. I am using the GPL Ghostscript 8.63 engine but any of the other fine products should work as well. As a bonus I get to control the colors and any of the print ZOOM options
Have a good day
|Re: Where is print preview???||robjurd||5/3/10 8:23 AM|
We need a solution not a whole lot of half a work arounds...
|Re: Where is print preview???||mark.malewski||5/10/10 3:28 PM|
Feature requests (and even something as simple as a "Print Preview" feature seem to fall upon deaf ears at Google, and wasting paper is extremely annoying, but I supposed all that we can do is vote for it here:
Suggest a feature for Google Chrome(Web)
About all you can do is make a post here on the developer's forum, and let them know that you're irritated by the fact that they seem to ignore such a simple features like "Print Preview".
The developer's seem to believe that no one even uses "Print Preview" and that there is no need to change a page rotation from portrait to landscape, or even a basic "Print Preview" features to save on wasting paper.
Firefox has it, IE has it, and just about every single application has it (except for Google Chrome). You can vote for the feature on the link here:
Suggest a feature for Google Chrome (Print Preview Option) here:
Then you can ask the developers to at least add a "Print Preview" by posting on the developer's forum here:
They've known about the issue for almost 2 years now (over a year and a half) and the developers have done nothing about it, and they seem to believe that it's not a needed feature, or that no one even uses it. So please take the time to voice your concerns to the developers about wanting this "Print Preview" feature, and please take the time to ask the developers to at least quit wasting their development time on silly stupid crap, while ignoring the most basic (and widely used) functional features such as a "Print Preview", and "Page Orientation" option:
|Re: Where is print preview???||mark.malewski||5/10/10 11:34 PM|
The Google Developers seem to be DEAF, and possibly slightly retarded, if they can't seem to understand that "Print Preview" should be a basic REQUIREMENT of any web browser, and not a "feature request".
The Google Developers really have fallen asleep, or don't have their heads screwed on straight.
Every single day hundreds of users complain about the stupid "Print Preview" problem, yet Google developers are just blind to it all. They don't seem to care (or even listen) to what the End Users actually want and need.
Quit worrying about new features, and just get all the basic features that FireFox has done first, such as a simple PRINT PREVIEW, and a PAGE SETUP (where you can adjust margins, etc.)
If you can't figure out how to do this, then just look over the source code from FireFox, and just copy the source code from FireFox!!
FireFox seems to have done it correctly, you'd think the morons over at Google could at least just look over the source code at FireFox, and just implement something similar. It's not rocket science, we're not putting a man on the moon.
Just give us a "Print Preview" and a "Page Setup" and a "Print Selected Text" (3 of the most commonly requested features, that we see over and over and over again every single day on these message forums).
|Re: Where is print preview???||organum||5/11/10 12:30 AM|
PP is available using the IE Tab extension. This is what I use although a recent update has sadly screwed the page format in PP.
Chrome is my default browser so the lack of this very basic feature is just daft.
Sometimes Google just don't finish the job. Things like reliable sync between Blackberry and GCal would you think be basic stuff but Google are still on an old beta version.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Blair (Googler)||5/11/10 4:12 PM|
I just wanted to let you know that we are working on building print preview functionality into Chrome. It's currently scheduled for Google Chrome Version 6, which will be out later this year, though be aware that the schedule may change.

I too was going to make Chrome my default browser until I discovered there is no Print Preview. I need to be able to print labels from PayPal at 80%, which I cannot do from my printer specs, and can do by setting Print Preview in Firefox.
Please add this feature soon!

It's the only thing my office colleagues still use Explorer for, I'm just about hanging on!

Hello I just wanted all of you guys to check out "Bliar the Bear's" Public Profile,
So Bliar tell me how's California, you like it there, well I guess you like Bears Huh? And you love Bear Puns?
Well heres some for you:
Hey Bliar the Bear I can't BEAR the fact that for 2 years people have been telling you to put a print preview and print options that have been standard for years on other browsers. Oh yea, Why don't you your BEAR *** and do something about it instead of BEARING all of our WRATH on the boards DO YOUR JOB bear, and then you can Hibernate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||damon.chee||6/11/10 9:30 PM|
Beside the print preview function, I also want the function "Print Selected" similar the one in IE or Firefox. Moreover, I found if we can preview the "Print Selected" output, it will much better than using Firefox.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||6/14/10 1:29 AM|
"Print selected" currently works ok in the DEV version.
It will filter down to Beta and stable shortly
|Re: Where is print preview???||lorenzo.milesi||6/15/10 5:26 AM|
it would be great if linux printing could be fixed as well.
Now I cannot print a single page, and this is an enormous waste!
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bunny38D||6/28/10 10:31 PM|
Well, I can print loads and loads of pages with my Chrome!
Now THIS is a REAL waste!
I just dont see what all the fuss is about!
Why are you guys still on this topic anyhow?
Do you know where I can order some cheap ribbons for my Epson
|Re: Where is print preview???||fripprazzle||7/1/10 10:19 AM|
Well Bunny, you may not need to print preview, but many people do. I do. And until Chrome has that feature I really can't use it for my job. I'm surprised this feature seems to have taken well over a year to be addressed. My test of Chrome is now over, which sucks.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Lilu.Dallas3K||7/3/10 12:51 PM|
Those of us who actually use Google Chrome to get actual work done NEED PRINT PREVIEW. It is an absolute MUST HAVE. If Internet Explorer has it, why not Google Chrome????
Really, Google? REALLY??? Two years later and STILL no print preview??? This is some bull right here!
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||7/3/10 1:20 PM|
The problem may be that Google designers fail to appreciate that users out there in this wide world may wish to use the web in ways that are different from most Google people. They (and one or two of the posters to this thread) seem unable to recognise that we all use the web in our own strange and different ways, whether for work, personal study or relaxation. They fail to see the implications of this diversity and so fail to appreciate why full control of print preview and selective printing is important to some of us.
Some people may be able to get all they need from a web page without ever printing anything; some may be content to print all of an item if they need to; but most contributors to this thread, myself included, feel the need to be able to control what is printed and it's size. And for us in the latter group, preview and selective printing is an essential requirement.
"Print selected" doesn't sound like the proper answer. We can do that anyway, via pasting to an office document. Firefox has shown the way (maybe other browsers, I have not tried others).
I see this insensitivity to diverse usage patterns in other Google designed products, particularly Android.
As the French say of other matters "Vive la difference!"
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||7/6/10 1:28 PM|
Sad to say but bye bye Chrome for now. Print preview, bookmark tags and now for some reason my book marks have duplicated and then duplicated again. WTF! Anyway, The time was fun.

It looks like Print Preview has been pushed to version 7 of Chrome?
See comment by Chris Jones (second comment from the bottom, at time of posting this): http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.com/2010/07/dev-channel-update.html
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||7/8/10 1:05 AM|
In the developer discussion mentioned above, I saw the following post by netster007x:
"Back to the Print Preview: I agree it can be critical to have print preview, at least to know how many pages long a site is before printing. However, have you checked your print preferences for a preview option? Most printers I've used have one tucked away."
Let's consider whether this is true for most ordinary users. I have an HP 1022n, a perfectly ordinary, reasonably modern b&w laser printer. I see no sign of a preview options. On my wife's PC is a Canon ip4500, a middle of the range inkjet; again, no sign of a preview option.
Has anyone seen a print preview option in ordinary printers as used by most home or small office users? Possibly the top-end printers have some such facility?
How we communicate this to Mr/Ms Netster007x I don't know. Is anybody in Google paying attention??
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||7/8/10 3:11 AM|
yes google are paying attention and they are working on it.
|Re: Where is print preview???||jynewjersey||7/17/10 7:55 PM|
I hate to say this, but IE makes the best Print Preview function. Firefox is still behind. Sigh!
|Re: Where is print preview???||TastyWheat||7/30/10 6:25 AM|
This is definitely a must! I just printed out a webpage of what I thought would be about 15 physical pages, but it ended up being about 40 because of the comments section. It would also be great if I could print only what is selected (the option is always greyed out).
|Re: Where is print preview???||No2L||8/2/10 3:35 PM|
Ahhh...just wondering ~ How's that Going??? Also, have you found this related to the Print being so Small ???
|Re: Where is print preview???||No2L||8/2/10 4:07 PM|
I have something ... I did a test
1) I cleaned my cache
2) Using the Google/Page/Print selection, Opened the Printer Preference window ~ I turned OFF ~ Print Preveiw
...it came out abit bigger than Normal ~ But NOT Small!
So ... I did another test
1) Using the same page (email) ~ again using the Google/Page/Print selection, Opened the Printer Preference page ~ IT HAD Print Preview selected ... I left it that way and Printed. Print Preview showed Up ~ and It Printed a bit Bigger than Normal ~ but NOT SMALL!
So ... my best guess is that something in my Cache had something set . IF Other can give this test a try ~ we may have something ~ that could Lead the Google Programmers in a Direction that Works!
|Re: Where is print preview???||mwp880830||8/18/10 6:41 PM|
I suggest that google chrome should add in this features in printing:
just like microsoft office, it able to print 4 pages in a pieces of paper....
just add in this function. thx
|Re: Where is print preview???||QQFarmer||8/18/10 7:17 PM|
@mwp880830, you can use FinePrint.
|Re: Where is print preview???||sechaikin||8/20/10 10:58 AM|
AMAZINGLY amateurish!! With HTML, printing to paper is never guaranteed to look like anything on the Monitor. I Print Preview EVERYTHING. I can't believe that the software management actually released to market such a crippled product. It changes my whole view of the competence of the Google Management in the more mundane tools of our daily lives. I love Google Maps and Google Earth, and Google Calendar. I have loved the direct simplicity and functionality of the Google Search page since my early dial-up modem days. However, either Print Preview is a programming nightmare that Google programmers fell apart on, or the company culture is so infused with new genius that old fashioned basic hands-on practical experience is hard to merge in.
|Re: Where is print preview???||No2L||8/20/10 8:44 PM|
I found Print Preview ~ when I select Page/Print and then select the Preferences button ~ there is a box to click that says: Print Preview ...and it does the Preview after I select Print and before I select: Start Printing.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||8/21/10 12:13 AM|
I suspect that what No2L has found is a facility within the particular print driver he/she uses. Maybe certain superior printers offer such a facility within the driver, but many lower cost SOHO printer drivers do not have this option.
Certainly my HP 1022n laser does not.
|Re: Where is print preview???||No2L||8/21/10 6:05 AM|
Well...I have a Cannon MP530 ...but the Page/Print, I was referring to is in Google's Crome browser. In opening it again ~ it does appear that it comes from the Cannon printer software drivers.
|Re: Where is print preview???||andy.mesa87||8/26/10 3:29 AM|

|Re: Where is print preview???||tonyb7||9/3/10 3:19 AM|
I agree. 18 months to reply and then a mealy-mouthed 'maybe the next time we upgrade'. Might as well be dealing with Microsoft.
|Re: Where is print preview???||craigg75||9/3/10 7:18 AM|
Unbelievable. This browser has such promise and yet Google keeps missing the mark. No print preview, can't automatically open in new tab from the address bar or bookmarks. Google definitely needs to up their game big time, they are starting to act like the neighborhood slackers lately -- Microsoft.
|Re: Where is print preview???||nennof||9/3/10 2:47 PM|
Pathetic, to have that much money and no brain is inexcusable.
How hard is to use OPERA as a free R&D. Everybody else does.
Tabs, speed dials, speak, they were on opera way before others.
Now they have E-mail reader inside the browser as a side panel.
Let's see how long before they are copied again.
|Re: Where is print preview???||dlr1627||9/4/10 2:16 PM|
Whenever I need to print preview, I switch to MS Internet Explorer. Hard to believe it's not available yet from Google Chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||sootsnoot||9/11/10 10:59 AM|
Thanks Blair - I hope that when you say "building print preview functionality" you mean implementing at least all three of the commonly requested features (Preview, Page Setup, Print the Selection), and not just Preview. Just doing preview ain't gonna quiet this thread down all that much :-)
|Re: Where is print preview???||phoenixtommy||9/12/10 12:36 PM|
Print Preview is only half of the problem, and a BIG problem, too. I like to print out (in draft mode) a lot of things I read for later. Those pages are larger print and about 50% more pages than in Firefox. Not only do you need print preview, but you need a setting for the size of what on your monitor vrs. what is printed.
Lack of a good and easy print preview is not only desirable (and for me, necessary), but it saves a lot of paper in costly ink cartridges. Chrome is good in so many ways, it is unbelievable that it is missing the basic feature for so long.
|Re: Where is print preview???||avboy||9/13/10 9:34 AM|
I see I'm at v6.0.472.55 of Chrome now. Can we get an update on the print preview feature?
|Re: Where is print preview???||Telanis||9/17/10 8:25 PM|
Chrome 6 is here, and still no Page Setup for printing. FAIL
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||9/17/10 10:47 PM|
They're working on it. There must be a real reason for the delay.
It may appear in version 8.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||9/19/10 6:01 AM|
Call me a cynic but don't you get the feeling that they may be putting this off as it may slow down the browser; one of their main 'sales points' is that it is faster. Google Chrome is a really lightweight browser so it's not surprising that it is relatively quick. Best of the bunch so far, although not perfect, is Firefox.
|Re: Where is print preview???||No2L||9/19/10 6:45 AM|
I LOVE Chrome and I don't think Firefox is better. I don't have a problem
but then I set the software that comes with my printer ~ to do the print
preview. That does away with the issue. I can't believe everyone who is
complaining about this is running a printer that does not have software.
There should be a setting in there.
|Re: Where is print preview???||NewWorldMan||9/19/10 6:47 AM|
Echoing @vasa1, I too read something about v8's having it. Therefore we should expect it around Christmas/New Year given current release schedules.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||9/19/10 8:03 AM|
As has been noted before in this discussion, lower cost printers, such our HP Laserjet 1022n and Canon ip4500 printers, do not enjoy the benefits of a print preview facility in the driver.
Possibly all Google employees use only fancier printers at work and so fail to comprehend that this is a real problem for smaller office or home users.
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||9/28/10 3:45 PM|
I don't think the Chrome development team take the inability to do print preview seriously. But that is fine. I am using ie9 beta and it is very fast, faster than chrome in some areas, and it has print preview! Then again print preview was nothing special, that has been around since ie3.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||9/29/10 12:44 AM|
It's not just the lack of print preview that is the problem, it is the total lack of anything thing to do with print output apart from the print command it's self. Imagine the situation - you have a page that you want to print out and you expect to print it as it displays on the screen, click the print command and you end up with just text shrunk to fit the page with a 12mm border all around and centred. The reason for this is that Chome has set all the printing defaults for you with no way for you to change them. Many pages today are built up of background images and colours with the text content over the top; Chrome does not print background colours and images (to save your ink) but does not give you the opportunity to print them if you want to.
All the main stream browsers have printer options that allow you to change the print settings such as page margins, printing of background colours and images, shrink to fit page, printing of page headers and footers and the header and footer content etc always available via print preview as well as it's own menu command. You can install an extension that will give you this functionality but all you are doing is turning your Chrome browser in to an IE browser.
Speed is not everything, functionality and ease of use play a huge part. Whilst Chrome fails to provide the basics that other browsers do then it has little chance of being up there with them.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||9/29/10 1:14 AM|
Chrome has started wooing enterprises. Printing and previewing will surely be high on their demand lists. Otherwise ....???
|Re: Where is print preview???||Swasar||9/29/10 3:42 PM|
Until I am stumbled upon with the Print Preview / Page Setup, I had an impression, you think about a feature and it is available with Google's products. You broke it.
Google employee has answered, it will be included as part of V6. I am using V6 and it is been about 5 months after the reply yet this feature is not there... Hmm... It is disappointing...
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||9/30/10 12:53 AM|
Latest is now version 8, so based on their history of sticking to their assurances, it may??? appear in version 10.
|Re: Where is print preview???||holdibus||9/30/10 1:07 AM|
Just accept it. For some reason, for some strange reason, it will never appear.
But we should not despair! Firefox 4 will be out soon. And maybe we should also give a try to the new Internet Explorer.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||9/30/10 1:18 AM|
It is frustrating for us as we have a web site that we sell from and the end result is a printable page, without printer options to enable printing of background images and colours, alter margins, disable shrink to fit etc etc Chrome will only work with the IE extension installed. I know Chrome's usage share is very small but so was Firefox's at one stage. We want to provide our services to as many people as possible regardless of which browser they use. Currently both Chrome and Safari are out of bounds to 50% of our products and there is nothing we can do about it.
Accepting it is not an option, the more noise that is made the higher up the list it goes. Lets face it, Chrome is the only mainstream browser without print preview and printer options, how on earth can they justify that when they are competing against other fully featured browsers.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||9/30/10 3:05 AM|
Re. Accepting it is not an option, the more noise that is made the higher up the list it goes.
you can take a look at this:
especially comment #66 ;-)
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||9/30/10 3:32 AM|
There is a huge difference between spamming and posting valid gripes. If you class a whole load of different people mentioning it independently as spam then you have a point, however, my understanding of spam, in the context of a forum, is the same person posting the same thing over and over and over, which is just stupid and annoying. The more independent and genuine comments about the lack of print preview and print options will give them an indication of how important it is to their users, if they continue to ignore their users then their users will go elsewhere.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||9/30/10 5:12 AM|
Don't you agree that they're aware that people want the feature and that they're working on the issue?
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||9/30/10 5:25 AM|
They may be aware of the fact but it seems that they don't seem to attach any importance to it. On version 4, I think, they stated that the feature would be available in version 6, we are now version 6 and they say it will be in version 8. If the pressure goes away so will the urgency and who knows which version it will appear in. The thing is, it's a pretty basic and useful feature, it's rather surprising that somebody made a choice not to include it and to support that choice through 6 major versions.
|Re: Where is print preview???||NewWorldMan||9/30/10 6:01 AM|
It doesn't surprise me that it wasn't there originally. It does surprise me that it's been this low on the list of priorities. However, Chrome's market share has been steadily growing over the two years while Firefox's has been static or slightly declining so maybe there's just not the urgency, even if a few users go elsewhere?
|Re: Where is print preview???||milligan00||9/30/10 7:04 PM|
I agree about print preview. I just downloaded Google Chrome today and love most things about it. I've been able to figure out how to do everything that I liked about IE, except for that. Love the speed of this though! Print Preview is a must though. Saves a lot of paper!! Also change font size on print preview too.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||10/1/10 4:47 AM|
Yup! Up again this month: 7.52% up to 7.98%.

no its still being worked on
|Re: Where is print preview???||Geotrax||10/8/10 5:14 PM|

Too bad just for this I have to use FF or even IE instead.
I really hate to blindly print web pages more than using IE to surf web. Come on Google, save us and save some trees, please
|Re: Where is print preview???||Dinsan Francis (chromestory.com)||10/12/10 11:39 AM|
okay, finally !!
its almost here guys !
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||10/13/10 1:26 AM|
@chromestory. This is not new news and it means nothing until it actually appears. When Chrome was version 4 it was promised in version 6, we are now on version 6 and it is promised in version 8, when 8 arrives maybe ver 10 will be promised. Don't hold your breath; you'll die!
|Re: Where is print preview???||NewWorldMan||10/13/10 8:04 AM|
I think it's reasonably safe to assume that print preview will arrive - eventually. It's just that we can't predict how long the "eventually" will be! :)
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||10/15/10 9:23 PM|
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||10/18/10 2:50 AM|
@vasa1, good link. Just reading through it there still seems to be quite a lot of 'TODO''s and one stand out and in your face omission - printing of background images and colours. All the other options are included so it seems quite surprising that this one is not, maybe they just forgot to include it in the list (wouldn't have thought so) or that background printing is standard, however, with consumable savings mentioned earlier and it not being the default at the moment I can't see this being the case. On the technical side there is no problem in the generation of a background colour/image to a PDF. I know this is early days and that things change but as this is the design document from which the project is managed (?) it's a little worrying that there is such a large omission.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Toni (Googler)||10/18/10 4:26 PM|
We're still working on this feature and it has been re-targeted to Google Chrome version 9.0. Apologies for any inconvenience but there are still pieces of this that need to be fleshed out before release. Keep in mind that schedules may change as different factors come up that may affect our timeline.
In the meantime, you can star the issue linked in my reference to receive updates on our progress.
|Re: Where is print preview???||davidntc||10/18/10 7:37 PM|
Every time when I need to do any printing, I would like to know what am gonna print & how it will turn out to save on precious paper & inks. I too keen to use Chrome as my default browser IF NOT because of lack of this feature too. It's not very user friendly if I can't do anything more than Print Preview or even Google add more features on this one than what others are offerings now.
From the first time I use Google Chrome, whenever I want to print, I will go back to FireFox to open up the same page & print preview & print from there. If nothing fast being offered here on Chrome on this, I may go back to Firefox for good. Cos I print often. It's just too troublesome having to do that back forth.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||10/18/10 8:42 PM|
@davidntc: did you happen to read the post immediately previous to yours?
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||10/19/10 12:47 AM|
What did I say about not holding your breath for version 8. Due to the history of push backs on this issue, the fact that they have only just started developing it, that currently it will take three versions for it to surface and that there are omissions from the spec I would say that ver 9 is optimistic. What was ver 8, that is now ver 9 (stable beta maybe?) will probably be ver 10 if we are lucky.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||10/19/10 8:36 PM|
Google Chrome's in-tab print preview feature begins taking shape:
|Re: Where is print preview???||jrg3||10/24/10 6:58 PM|
For those of you waiting for a future version of Chrome to provide a "Print Preview" function (and there are many), I think there is a fairly good work-around Extension to Chrome named "IE Tab" already available. Here is what you need to do:
1. Open this Chrome Extensions web page: http://www.chromeextensions.org/utilities/ie-tab/ and "Add to Chrome"
2. Note the "IE Tab" icon next to the wrench icon at top-right of Chrome
4. Open any web page(s) you want to use the "Print Preview..." functionality
5. Click on the "IE Tab" extension icon and view the web page(s) in an IE Tab within Chrome
6. Now right-click and select "Print Preview..." from the context menu (hint: the easiest way to scroll pages is to use the Alt+Rt-Arrow or Alt+Left-Arrow)
You now have the full functionality of the "Print Preview" function that exists in IE... without leaving Chrome... like portrait/landscape change print size, headers/footers, page setup, etc.
Try it and see if it is a useful work-around... Once this extension is installed, it only takes three mouse-clicks to get the "PrintPreview" function
|Re: Where is print preview???||robjurd||10/24/10 7:01 PM|
@jrg3 IETab has been mentioned before but it doesn't help when you're on a dynamically loaded page (such as checking in for a flight) and need to print that page as IE will reload the URL
|Re: Where is print preview???||jrg3||10/24/10 7:07 PM|
Very good point, but there are still a lot of other webpages that IE Tab provides a useful Print Preview... function.
|Re: Where is print preview???||webshitai||10/27/10 10:39 AM|
Such a pity. I will wait for version 9 with print preview. Hope they give this priority, having to use the old fox at the moment.
|Re: Where is print preview???||klincicome||11/4/10 8:37 AM|
I would rather see an option where I can set the margins, header and footer, background, etc and forget it rather than a print preview where I must reset very time (i.e. Safari for Windows), Please make more similar to Firefox, which is what I will be using till then.
|Re: Where is print preview???||galivantstom||11/21/10 11:40 AM|
My favorits line in Chrome is on the bookmarks line. I have no line with options on it, and I can't go directly back to hoe. Not all activities allow have a home tab and there is no bottom tray with save to disk, home, print (much less print preview. I may as well go back to IE8 and Yahoo. They are much more intuitive and less complex.
The primary goal of a browser is to make it easy to install and setup to be user friendly. If it doesn't meet these criteria then it shouln't be released.
Bye, bye chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||11/22/10 1:10 AM|
What line with options on it do you want?
To go "home" can you not press the "home" button?
The primary role of a browser is to browse web pages.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||11/22/10 1:20 AM|
Official issue 173 [http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=173] , this print preview / settings dev, has now been put back to M10 (milestone 10) which is Googlespeak for ver 10 (as far as I believe)
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||11/22/10 1:30 AM|
As Alex Trebek would say, "That is correct" :(.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||11/22/10 1:34 AM|
@cave_troll the primary role of a word processor is to er 'process words', show me one popular industry standard word processor that just 'processes words'. In writing a letter would you prefer MS Notepad or MS Word, where would Photoshop be now if all they had done was stick to their original brief.
There is no doubt that the primary role of anything is to fulfil it's purpose but that does not mean that is it's only role. What would you buy for the same money, something that just about does the job or one that does the job, makes your experience enjoyable/easier and has all the bells and whistles. In this case the price is 'free' but so are all the other browsers. At the moment Chrome is a browser we use to test web site compatibility for the 3+% of our Chrome users across all of our sites.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||11/22/10 1:45 AM|
@OldAmos, let us reconcile ourselves to the fact we'll get the print preview and other print-related features when we get it and not before. It is nobody's contention that it is not of relevance. Why don't we just believe that there's some legitimate reason why they can't currently provide the features a lot of people ask for?
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||11/22/10 2:00 AM|
@vasa1 I agree, we can go round and round in circles with this discussion and it will probably make very little difference. I just did not like @cave_trolls virtual slap in the face to the contributor with the 'it does what it says it does - what more do you expect' sort of reply. We all might as well use Netscape 1.2 then!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||11/22/10 2:26 AM|
@OldAmos, but did you not get the impression that that contributor had some preconceived notion of what and how things should be, including browsers?
What if someone chooses to make a "different" browser which doesn't meet preconceived notions or standards, or lacks some perceived "essential" quality? Doesn't that someone have the right? Just as others have the right to use or not use something?
I had installed Chrome several times in the past but found it didn't have what I wanted (user stylesheets). I just uninstalled it each time but kept checking back.
To some extent, coming to this forum and threatening to go back to this, that, or the other browser unless this, that or the other feature is provided ASAP doesn't really help anyone and gets just a bit tiring to encounter for those who volunteer their time trying to help those who want to use Chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||NewWorldMan||11/22/10 2:47 AM|
@vasa1, "To some extent, coming to this forum and threatening to go back to this, that, or the other browser unless this, that or the other feature is provided ASAP doesn't really help anyone"
If Chrome does not have a feature (and there's no indication that it's being planned) I think it's fine to keep requesting it. However, if it's known that a particular feature is planned or being worked on then all we should do is be patient. If that is not an option then there's no choice but to use an alternative browser until the feature appears. Periodic whining doesn't really get us anywhere.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||11/22/10 3:16 AM|
@vasa1. This is a forum, the whole object of it is to express an opinion, some people do it better than others. The contributor expressed his (valid) opinion and, in my mind, was slapped down by @cave_troll who seems to think that the post did not warrant a considered reply.
There will always be pre-conceived notions when there is a market place full of competing vendors and I don't find it at all surprising that people talk with their feet. If the general raft of browsers provide a certain number or level of features then it is only normal to expect that the newcomers provide the same.
Look at tabbed browsing, not long ago it did not exist, now all browsers feature it, being used to the feature would you consciously select one that did not feature it.
I think the contributors point is 100% valid and that @cave_troll was out of order in the style of reply given.
I love these forums; even a print preview / setting issue gets controversial!
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||11/22/10 3:29 AM|
Apologies , but i didn't mean to "slap" anyone.
In my experience, I use my web browser to browse the web. Chrome does this very well.
Its very rare that I actually print anything out. Maybe a map or directions to a particular shop.
As this is a rare event (maybe once every couple of weeks) I don't consider it a core requirement of a web browser
Other people may well print stuff multiple times per day and as I think we're agreeing, we're just going to have to wait for preview.
My post you're taking offence to, was a reply to a post that mainly seemed to be complaining that he was missing his "options" and not able to click "home"
I asked the poster to clarify what "options" he wanted and asked why he could not press the "home" button to go "home". what's unreasonable about that?
Given this is a discussion about lack of print preview, I fail to see how my reply was any worse than an off topic complaint about not being able to "go home" or find the "options"
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||11/22/10 3:59 AM|
@cave_troll. I see and accept your point, but what you are doing (using your personal browsing experiences to form a blanket opinion) is no more than the contributor was doing. 15 months on and 287 comments later from the original post (one of many similar posts) must mean that there is an opinion that print preview and print settings are fairly important.
The problem I had was the apparent sharpness of the reply along with a lack of justification for the response. Had you elaborated in the way you did above then I would not have had any problem at all because it would have come across as a considered opinion rather than a dismissal. :-)
|Re: Where is print preview???||Davidjhs||11/22/10 7:02 AM|
What we see is that we all use a browser in different ways. For some a print preview is irrelevant. For me, and other posters to this forum, it it is an essential support for perhaps 20% of what I look at on the web. I want to be able to print and have control over the printing of parts of longer documents on the subjects I read about on the web. I like to ponder complicated items away from the screen.
We will all have different views. No one size fits us all. We just hope the Chrome developers will note these varying patterns of usage and develop facilities to cover (most of) the range of ways in which users work.
As the French say in another context: "Vive la Difference!".
|Re: Where is print preview???||ritabonita||11/27/10 9:50 PM|
Hello People: This is a hell of a way to run an airline! Before commenting on the absence of something equivalent to Explorer 8 where i have "file", "edit", "view" etc. as indispensable helpers, I have noticed on this Google web site that Google is most notable by is absence. Almost all comments are from other users and amount to nothing more than lamentations about the sad state of affairs with regard to this and other issues. Why does Google not make an entry here and explain in simple English what the deal is. Are they planning to take care of the issues raised here, when, and how are we to come in the meantime, etc.
Just because they are free, that does not mean they have no obligation to their users. I switched from Explorer to Google Chrome for the single reason, that it is a lot faster. Period. There is nothing else that recommends itself over Explorer, and what little time I save when going on line is wasted, trying to hunt down answers that are just not easy go get from Google. If it weren't for the forum, info would just not be available. I wonder what their concept of SERVICE is.
Now, someone said that the FILE, EDIT, VIEW, etc. features are now on keyboard shortcuts. I checked them out and they are not there. Are there any other kinds of shortcuts? How do I find them? I don't even know how to give a print command, safe a file, etc.
Please tell me how you are coping with all this.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||11/27/10 11:32 PM|
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||11/29/10 12:52 AM|
Click on the spanner icon top right of the window.
Here you will find all the menus that would be normally available on the menu bar, but to save space they are all under here.Speaking of shortcuts, try <alt>+F . This is the usual shortcut to drop down the File menu and it still works here.. As does <alt>+E which is the usual shortcut to drop down the Edit menu.
so you still have the menus, but you gain a little bit of screen real eastate.
|Re: Where is print preview???||JonCoffee||12/1/10 8:42 AM|
I actually stopped using google chrome because there was no print preview. I use this feature all the time for school. It's what I NEED in a browser not simply a preference.
If google chrome doesn't have this feature soon, I will lose interest. It's not worth it to keep holding out for this feature when firefox works perfectly fine and much more reliably than chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bennlexx||12/4/10 10:39 PM|
Have just downloaded Chrome and liked it until I went looking for print preview and found there was none. Agree with those above it is an imperative if it is to be a competitor. Hopefully the omission will be addressed soon!!! Until then it's back to Firefox for printing.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||12/5/10 1:23 AM|
Bennlexx, that is certainly sensible. You get the best of browsing with Chrome but, for some more time, it makes perfect sense to switch to Firefox when a print-out is required. For even greater control, I open the saved html file in a word processor for a bit of editing before printing from the word processor.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||12/7/10 8:35 AM|
Google Cloud Print is now available
How this works remains to be seen!
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||12/7/10 9:29 AM|
Hi @vasa1, So, is this the truth behind the constant push back for print preview and settings. Seems a little suspect when they have been developing a cloud print solution that just happens to fit nicely in with their browser, or I am just being sceptical? Google has it's own reasons for doing everything, mostly related to income or data collection, so I wouldn't be too surprised if the scheduled appearance of print preview gets pushed back from ver 10 to 12, 14 or even later. Don't hold your breath just watch their space.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||12/7/10 9:40 AM|
@OldAmos, on the lighter side, here's some reading in the meantime that may (or may not) make sense for much of what Google does:
Release Early, Release Often
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||12/7/10 12:59 PM|
@vasa1, yes, I can see that and the advantages of it and how Chrome benefits from this style of developing, but you missed one bit, 'Listen to your customers'. Yes, Chrome are developing the print preview and settings, which is great and shows they do listen to a point, but on the other hand they also promised it by ver 4 (I think); no point listening to your customers if, by your actions, you manage to lose the faith your customers have in you, soon those customers become ex-customers.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||12/7/10 6:05 PM|
As a generality, the part about losing customers is true. However, if Google's own data and that of a couple of other organizations is to be believed, Chrome has been acquiring users and gaining market-share quite rapidly.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bennlexx||12/7/10 7:21 PM|
That's because it does many things very well but it still needs a print preview.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||12/8/10 1:05 AM|
@vasa1. I look at the stats from our sites and there is a slight increase in Chrome (now 9%ish), fairly static Firefox (35%ish), falling IE (mainly ver 8 @ 45%ish) and the rest (Safari, Opera, phones etc) slide in at the bottom of the pile. Chrome is a good browser, it's quick and does the viewing bit just as well as any other browser and I'm sure it's (and FF's) increase is due to users swapping from IE. Look at IE a few years ago, it's dominance was 90+% but currently has only half of that, I moved from IE to FF because of it's security issues, the 'big brother' attitude of MS and it always seemed just a little bit behind everybody else and was playing catch up. Form my point of view, Chrome needs to be able to do what all the others do but better and be ahead of the game, in terms of speed (with the possible exception of Opera 10) and viewing capability they are there but at the moment fall behind with their features.
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||12/8/10 1:35 AM|
The Chrome PDF Viewer is going to be integral to Print Preview. That's why it (CPV) has been pushed out as default in Chrome 8 to get as much feedback as possible from the widest field of users --- the "Release Early, Release Often" strategy. This is my conspiracy theory coupled with what I think I remember of what I read somewhere. I'll dig it out if I can.
I don't know just how successful this strategy is turning out!
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||12/8/10 1:38 AM|
|Re: Where is print preview???||vasa1||12/8/10 1:47 AM|
If you read the document, you'll see it isn't a conventional approach and maybe worth the wait ;)
But encourage whoever you can to try the CPV and post their constructive criticism in the forum so that all the wrinkles are ironed out ASAP and you can have a bunch of happy Chrome browser-using customers!
|Re: Where is print preview???||TooMuchTimeOnline||12/8/10 7:18 AM|
You can also install a PDF print driver - I use PrimoPDF. As a bonus, you can save or email the resulting PDF file and it's tons faster than HP's print preview option.
|Re: Where is print preview???||andy.mesa87||12/16/10 3:54 PM|
I'm on version 10 as of tonight, as still no print preview... what madness.
|Re: Where is print preview???||andy.mesa87||12/16/10 4:01 PM|
Found it, it's in about:flags. Sufficiently placated.
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||12/22/10 9:28 AM|
The version in about:flags does not work for me, and am looking for settings before print preview. Adjusting margins and taking out the header/footer is a must for me. I know this might have popped up here before, but people here should flag these issues:
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||12/22/10 9:37 AM|
And according to issue 173, this feature isn't slated for release until chrome 11. So, we are on stable version 8 right now which means we won't see this feature until May 2011 at the earliest.
This bug has been open since September 2008, that puts the total time to implement this feature that is in every other popular browser is 2 years and 8 months. Awesome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Gemisphere||12/22/10 7:56 PM|
FWIW, everything i've printed out of chrome has shown up as it is on my screen. Fine by me until they implement print preview. I live digitally for the most part, so if I'm printing and it comes out legibly, great. If you just don't use Chrome because printing "might" not come out ok, try it. If you really need a high level of detail or you've tested printing and it doesn't work, use something another browser for now.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bunny38D||12/22/10 10:45 PM|
Oh you poor Mr. Gemisphere!
You live digitally? I live in a 17th floor apartment with my King Charles spaniel "boopsie".
. I don't waste my time printing documents. Is this what you mean by "digitally"?
I take boopsie for walks sometimes; the only paper I waste is for her wee-wee.
My boyfriend "Jamal" says I should use Firefox for printing. And he knows browsing (whatever the heck that is)
Is Firefox good?
My printer, a HP boublejet 520 probably needs a new ink cartridge. Maybe this is why my Chrome does not print. Jamal says I shouldn't ask here- and he is the expert. But I will wait for Chrome-11.
|Re: Where is print preview???||kkbb||1/27/11 12:45 PM|
I am changing my default browser back to Firefox then. This functionality should have been one of the first things included. Both Print Preview and Page/Print setup. And if only one is added, then it must be page setup.
|Re: Where is print preview???||kulius||1/28/11 9:55 AM|
A browser without print preview is like a new car without a radio. Or like a man without his...sport news. So, please, google, give us our...sport news! I mean, print preview, of course...
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||1/28/11 9:58 AM|
@kulius Yeah, sports news would be good.
|Re: Where is print preview???||p.t.afer||1/30/11 4:37 AM|
@toni: "We're still working on this feature and it has been re-targeted to Google Chrome version 9.0."
i am sorry, but i don't understand, how you can always postpone the release. it seems like everyone is waiting for it. but if you are not ready yet making it possible, chrome users will someday not using chrome anymore.
i would appreciate it if you tell us, when it really is available but don't make us hoping and hoping for the next version, which doesn't include this feature once again.
in the meantime i hope you really mean "Google Chrome version 9.0" and start using other browsers again.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Lecksa||2/3/11 8:41 PM|
I just updated chrome to 9 version and no print preview. WTF?!? Print preview targeted to majour release 10?
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||2/3/11 8:55 PM|
Try release 11.
|Re: Where is print preview???||kulius||2/4/11 5:10 AM|
Too optimistic, try release 89 ;-)
|Re: Where is print preview???||lilpete||2/9/11 3:27 AM|
HELLOOOOOO!! GOOOOOOGLE!! ARE YOU IN THERE??
I can not believe this is getting overlooked every time.. just ring up Mozilla.. ask them really nicely to steal there print function.. and whack it into your program.. I dont understand the hold up.. cleverest people on the planet in this firm and you cant sort this out.
Any clever people that can make a Plugin that can do a similar job, Im just clutching at straws.
Every time I print an order I waste a sheet of paper because of the header and footer, surely its simple to give me an option for that.
In the last three years Google has managed to achieve so much in so many different facets of their industry..
but no print preview.. this is so infuriating for such a small function.
PLEASE GOOGLE, sort this issue out, or at least offer an explanation for this MAJOR flaw in your software!
|Re: Where is print preview???||Al Page||2/11/11 11:42 AM|
Recently moved over to using Chrome and initially thought it was amazing - but to find that it has no print preview is just nuts - and then to discover this has been an issue for over two years is mind boggling. I won't go on. The last post says it all. But PLEASE GOOGLE!! - this is insane - constantly having to go back to IE just to print makes a TOTAL MOCKERY of your product. FIX IT - go on, you know you want to....!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||DarthRE||2/12/11 12:35 PM|
This is ridiculous Google not having the print preview in your own web browser. While you are at it, could you bring in some separators to the bookmarks as well. Nothing much... just a few little things needed here and there and I can be a loyal Google Chrome fan.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Blair (Googler)||2/16/11 5:07 PM|
Hey guys, just wanted to keep you looped in: print preview is now slotted for Chrome 11. Again, you can follow our progress by starring the issue in my references.
|Re: Where is print preview???||QenTox||2/19/11 2:42 AM|
Not only the preview is missing, I just can not turn off (at least I can not find it, where to do that) to print the source, page in footer and date and page title in header. Is there a way how can I print anything from Google Chrome without these information?
|Re: Where is print preview???||Winston Lee||2/21/11 1:24 PM|
you Googlers are a bunch of liars. on 5/12/10 you (Blair) said - in another discussion group - that it would be in Version 6; then on 10/18/10 Toni said it would be in Version 9. HA! I'll just continue to use FireFox, despite the overhead.
you've learned well from Microsoft and Apple.
|Re: Where is print preview???||thenath24||2/22/11 7:22 AM|
I am a web application developer, we've just come to add printing features and I was disappointed not to find print preview, we really want to be able support Chrome, but this makes t difficult.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||2/22/11 7:52 AM|
@thenath24. In same situation as you, very frustrating! Not only is there no print preview but page and print settings are missing so the user can't get rid of page headers / footers, set margins etc etc. If you develop sites that have print output then generally the page is designed with that in mind but at the moment Chrome (and Safari) just trash the printed output in terms of formatting. We are all focused on writing cross browser code to ensure that viewers get the best experience no matter their choice of browser but the browser developers seem to build in incompatibility and odd or missing features on purpose.
What would it be like if every company that produced a DVD disc or player decided on their own standards, formats and just left out major features??
|Re: Where is print preview???||Evin H||3/3/11 8:32 AM|
YES WE NEED A PRINT PREVIEW OPTION - it is a MUST for sure!! Most of the time I print out extras that I don't want because of not having the feature. Please provide it for us as soon as possible - thanks!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||3/9/11 1:06 PM|
Print preview has now been pushed, again, to milestone 12. This is ridiculous, please put this old feature request to rest.
|Re: Where is print preview???||tmccarrell||3/9/11 3:39 PM|
No "Print Preview"? Are you KIDDING ME? And it's not coming until Chrome ELEVEN?!? With all due respect to the Google Developers... how is it even remotely possible that a "Print Preview" feature didn't occur to someone as being important in version ONE?! And apparently it's importance had to be debated for such a long time it's having to wait for 10+ major updates to finally "make the cut". I mean seriously...this is such a scarily glaring oversight it frankly defies credible explanation as to why it wasn't included long, long, long ago... Really???? I expect this type of craziness from Apple, not Google. I'd appreciate some info as to the reasoning (or lack thereof) why this isn't in Chrome already. That would certainly help me gauge my ability to have confidence in how well-thought-out Google products are, and I mean that with all sincerity. I am very disappointed to realize that this is missing - I honestly thought I was just overlooking it. If you need some "real world" input on your solutions, I'm open to working something out because the current development, review, and product planning process is clearly missing not only "the boat", but frankly, "the ocean"...
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||3/10/11 12:44 AM|
@tmccarrell Well said, but unfortunately the situation is worse, it's M12 now. They say they want to get it right as an excuse for the delay but, at the end of the day, they don't receive any direct income from it so why should they bother to invest the extra time and effort?
|Re: Where is print preview???||marsha.ww4ww||3/10/11 8:43 AM|
Print Preview WOULD be nice. For actual printing, even of .pdf's, this may help: you can right click on the page you want to print, then click on print; once your printer window opens, you can choose "print selection", "print preview", etc. (whatever options your printer has). Long way around, but helps in the mean time.
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||3/10/11 9:10 AM|
If you look into the chromium build notes, its seems they are trying to put print preview out into a tab like the settings are in chrome 10. Awesome, great idea, love it devs! Now, please just follow through...
|Re: Where is print preview???||SteveInTheD||3/10/11 11:05 AM|
I've been trying Chrome for about a week and I think I'm going back to FireFox over this issue and the way Google is treating all of us (it's end users)... How can you ignore your customers LOUD complaints for over 2 straight years seeking a very basic feature that EVERY other program has... Maybe it's the "Google Culture" that let's the employees work however and whenever they want... or maybe they are all drowning in their billions of dollars from AdWords... someone should call 9-1-1... the developers might be in trouble... of course the dispatcher might just ignore the call for 2+ years if he is a Chrome user...
|Re: Where is print preview???||EdSF||3/16/11 4:43 PM|
Not a "violent reaction" since I've somewhat know this about webkit based browsers....its the same "issue" with Safari (at least for PC/Windows) which itself is now at version 5.0.4....
But yeah, hope to see it done for v11 - if this is the future of "the network is the computer", printing shouldn't be an "issue"...more of an "afterthought" imho...
|Re: Where is print preview???||canada414||3/23/11 11:05 AM|
Blair mentioned print preview is now slotted for Chrome 11 but I just downloaded Chrome 11 beta and there isn't print preview. So I guess it won't happen for 11 either. If Google is strategically opposed to 'print preview', they should just let users know instead of keep telling us it will be implemented in next version.
|Re: Where is print preview???||smrnite||3/28/11 1:15 PM|
Sadly, I too wish for a print preview option. Pleeeez?
|Re: Where is print preview???||Ben Turner||3/29/11 9:56 PM|
Right, I've been patient, and to be honest really enjoyed other aspects of Chrome. But yeah, on a daily basis this annoys me, and I'm tired of dealing with it. So I'm off to Firefox 4 now...
Thanks for the good browser though, but this is a commonly used feature for me, and I've wasted enough paper on bad web printouts and time reloading pages in firefox to check the preview of them that it's worth the pain of moving to another browser now.
|Re: Where is print preview???||teddydoors||4/13/11 12:59 AM|
We need "Print Preview" to eliminate messy URLs in printed pages as well as other similar things. Add "Print Prview" quick or I may label you as "stupid & stubborn developers".
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bunny38D||4/13/11 1:09 AM|
Well, I am slow, and oh so stubborn!
My print preview works well in Chrome! I have developed and excellent preview for Chrome-
on a daily basis this annoys me, and I'm tired of dealing with it. So I'm off to Windows 3.1 now.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||4/13/11 5:36 AM|
Print preview is making nice progress.
On my Canary build, print preview generates a PDF of the page i'm trying to print.you can control
Colour / black and white
page orientation etc
admittedly pressing "print" does not do anything yet, you need to save the PDF and then print that, but certainly progress is being made.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Dinsan Francis (chromestory.com)||4/15/11 7:11 AM|
ok, things are taking shape now, print preview is coming in all its glory to you, read more here, including a video
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||4/15/11 7:16 AM|
I still don’t see the ability to change margins or remove the header/footer. Isn’t that the point of print preview?
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||4/15/11 7:38 AM|
Gee Wiz!!! We can preview by PDF *** FANTASTIC ***, but wait a minute ... I can already do that by printing to my PDF print driver. Google Dev's don't seem to have any idea what is wanted, here's a short list to help them:
1. Genuine print preview as will be printed (not a converted to PDF view)
2. Print settings so that the print preview can be changed to suit
2a. Remove headers and footer
2b. Change headers and footers
2c. Adjust margins
2d. Ignore or print background images
2e. Page orientation
2f. Shrink to fit (or not)
3. Ctrl + P prints (not a short cut to a print, preview, whatever tab)
4. Print and/or Preview selected/highlighted areas of page
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||4/15/11 8:07 AM|
this is still in the Dev channel. Work in progress. chill
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||4/15/11 8:12 AM|
@cave_troll - I get that, but it's like sending a new food product out for customer feedback that both looks and tastes horrible: little or no point! Keep it under wraps until it at least does something close to it's aim.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||4/15/11 8:27 AM|
well it is under wraps. Its only on the dev channel.
If people want to be nosey and test the new features then understand that they are new features, may not be complete and may not even work properly
I've been watching PP devleop. at least it no longer causes webpages to crash.
|Re: Where is print preview???||minhtruc||4/29/11 12:22 PM|
Two years requesting for such a primitive function.. sigh!! :(
I just voted with my finger.. a simple mouse-click to go back to FF version 4.. So far, I have no complains.. :)
|Re: Where is print preview???||udtaylor2||5/1/11 6:45 AM|
If google chrome had a print preview option it will be my default. I love everything else about it.
|Re: Where is print preview???||nedraspyro||5/1/11 9:25 AM|
Good lord, how can you not have a print preview function in Chrome, Gmail, etc. Gosh even IE has it and Chrome keeps touting how wonderferul it is. Hmmm, guess I'll go back to using IE and wait until Chrome gets their act together and adds print preview.
|Re: Where is print preview???||hsawtelle||5/1/11 4:56 PM|
This is pretty amazing. I remember in my word processing class in 7th grade (1984 Apple ][e) we had print preview!
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||5/3/11 1:25 AM|
HEY GOOGLE, it's seems people are starting to vote on their choice of browser by walking away from you. Do I (we) blame them after such a ridiculously long wait for the most basic of functions, not really. Would you be happy that every single 'promise' of print preview and settings has been broken. Do you not realise you are making fools of your users (ex-users as well as potential) and most people don't like that. Get your act together and just do it!!
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||5/3/11 2:51 AM|
well print preview works pretty well for me :-)
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||5/3/11 3:51 AM|
@cave_troll, we are talking about the stable 6 weekly releases not the dev nightly's or beta versions, stop confusing matters and get on the same page as everyone else.
|Re: Where is print preview???||shyamgurung57||5/3/11 10:32 PM|
i did not see also any option that print preview in Google chrome browser. because i have to use anytime that print preview for print any kind of paper in a landscape, so please if any of you any idea for that please send me email with screen sort and picture thank you.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||5/4/11 1:14 AM|
Before anyone else says "I need print preview" - this feature is on its way. It exists already in the test releases. It needs some work doing on it so that it stops randomly crashing, but it is on its way.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Spreadborough||5/6/11 11:04 PM|
Cave Troll needs to crawl back in his F'ing cave, as print preview is still not here at the "stable" release chrome 11. "it's on it's way", or "If people want to be nosey and test the new features then understand that they are new features, may not be complete and may not even work properly" is not good enough. Chrome has been around for years and still does not have basic print preview function in the stable release. PATHETIC.
|Re: Where is print preview???||caver_tim||5/8/11 3:19 PM|
no need to be nasty.
I'm trying to let people know who are not running the test versions that its gone from "there is no print preview" to "its pretty close"
Its ok if you don't want to know how close it is... nobody's forcing you to either use chrome or hang round these forums...
|Re: Where is print preview???||xorapperxo||5/10/11 9:59 AM|
It is ridiculous that before chrome 6 was out the issue was said to have been in the works to be resolved. I am running chrome 11 beta and still the only solution is to create a pdf. what a bunch of bull and a hassle. come on guys step it up. print preview please.

1. PRINT PREVIEW IS AVAILABLE IN ALL OTHER MAJOR BROWSERS
2. YEARS OF BROKEN PROMISES AND DELAYS...(CONTINUES)
3. INDIFFERENCE/ARROGANCE TOWARDS USER FEEDBACK (CONSENSUS)
4. GROWING USER ANGER, IMPATIENCE, AND DEFECTION

|Re: Where is print preview???||hhvideo||5/28/11 4:10 PM|
WOW! I really love all the new commercials and thought this is another great product from Google but seems that as far back as a year ago (5/11/10 to be exact) "Blair (Googler) Google Employee" reported PRINT PREVIEW was coming out on "Google Chrome Version 6" but we are now on Chrome 11 which earlier this year same Google Employee reported that PRINT PREVIEW would once again be included. I'm running Google Chrome 11 but I don't see it. Please Google what are you waiting for?? Is it really that difficult to program this feature? Do go for super amazing fancy, just get in there so we can stop killing all these extra trees!
|Re: Where is print preview???||XDRAGON360||5/29/11 5:09 PM|
Guys, print preview is already out in the dev version of Chrome (13)
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||5/30/11 10:03 AM|
@xdragon360. It's been in the DEV verion for some time but, get on the same page, we are talking about the the release version. If it is only in the DEV (developers) version then it's not a feature. I don't understand people who recommend, as it seems your are doing, that the DEV, Beta, unstable (i.e. none release) version be used; if you value the data on your computer keep well clear of them - they are not stable release versions for a very good reason. Even the developers recommend that they only be used on a none primary computer for evaluation only (or some such similar warning).
Let me ask you a question, would you have installed Windows 7 on your main computer three years before it's release (when they weren't even calling it Windows 7), only and idiot would do that for very obvious reasons!
|Re: Where is print preview???||XDRAGON360||5/30/11 3:46 PM|
I have had Chrome dev for at least a year now, and I haven't lost any data whatsoever. Yes, it does crash sometimes, but it does not affect anything else on my computer.
|Re: Where is print preview???||rebelh3art||6/5/11 12:49 AM|
OMG!! it has to take a major version upgrade just for a print preview!!??
|Re: Where is print preview???||Jeweltrend||6/7/11 9:44 AM|
WOW... It is finally here... PRINT PREVIEW IN GOOGLE CHROME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now the world will probably end.
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||6/7/11 9:48 AM|
Don't hold your breath. As of Milestone 13 you can only see a pretty preview, but not do anything with it except print it. They have print settings slotted for Milestone 15, but I would put good money that it will get pushed again.
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||6/8/11 4:58 AM|
Aww, come on!! Print preview IS NOT here yet. Once it appears on the main menu (or similar) next to 'Print' then it is here. To have to go to about:flags to enable a development feature does not mean it is here. I tried it; it's crap. Try clicking randomly over the preview page and you'll notice that the text moves up or down a few pixels. In one part of the page a series of correctly coded div's were as they should be yet exactly the same arrangement of div's on a different part of the same page previewed as a large black box!
|Re: Where is print preview???||Jeweltrend||6/8/11 7:30 AM|
I guess they are trying to appease us...
|Re: Where is print preview???||lucky7s||6/8/11 10:00 AM|
V.12 "print preview" is a joke, just like all previous half-hearted "print previews" from Chrome.
The latest version of "print preview" does have some minor, mainly aesthetic, "improvements", however:
- still missing a lot of functions (adjust margins, footers/headers, enlarge/shrink/fit-to-page, etc)
- still beta and buggy
- still sucks
Yet again we have been duped into thinking the next release will finally "have it".
It is obvious that the managers, developers, engineers, etc. don't give a rat's poop about Print Preview....if they really wanted it Chrome would have it by now.
Perhaps we are not supposed to print from the "cloud"? Is that why Print Preview is not a priority? Oh sorry, didn't know that, we shall try to conform to the new paradigm shift...quick Batman, to the cloud! LOL
And what's up with the whole "if you don't like it, don't use it"....Is that really their attitude? Last time I checked they are a business, so shouldn't they be concerned about user satisfaction, market share, advertising revenue, etc.??? As a concerned GOOG shareholder, I wonder is this systemic? It's clear GOOG doesn't give a crap about its shareholders (aka OWNERS), just look at its recent stock performance (and my portfolio).
This whole thing is just retarded and quite disgusting. So I think i'm gonna switch back to Firefox (i know, good riddance to me, right?)....and just check back here once in a while. Although FF is slower than Chrome, it has all the everyday handy functions one needs in a web browser. Pity, cause Chrome does have some good things going for it....shame shame shame.
|Re: Where is print preview???||mwu4||6/8/11 5:36 PM|
With some more tests, the Chrome 12 print preview PDF output is bad compared to the PDFCreator output ( Windows XP ) or the PDF file output ( Fedora 13 ). Hence, the print preview had better be disabled. Thanks
|Re: Where is print preview???||mwu4||6/9/11 9:11 AM|
One more thing to add, in Fedora 13, the Chrome 12 print preview will show nothing if no real printer is added. However, the Firefox 4 print preview still can show the webpage to be printed. Thanks.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Bubble_Head||6/10/11 12:36 PM|
You can now enable print preview by typing "about:flags" in the address bar and enabling Print Preview on the resultant menu.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Birko||6/20/11 4:50 PM|
Just installed Chrome 13 beta and the print preview is crap! You only get to print selection by pages numbers i.e. no "current page" option. No use whatsoever if your pages aren't numbered or misnumbered. Cheesed off and not using Chrome anymore - it's like Apple control freaks "our way or the highway"
|Re: Where is print preview???||Danilo Majhenič||6/22/11 12:57 AM|
print preview is only 150px high.
|Re: Where is print preview???||S.R.H.||6/30/11 10:05 AM|
Now there is print preview in Google Chrome. It is very new and does not work the best yet. First you go to chrome://flags/ and in the print preview section enable it. Then restart Google Chrome. After that when you are on a website that you would like to print, click the wrench icon and then in that menu click "Print". There are many options on that page to change the settings for the print job. Even thought there is now a print preview function it does not function well. The print preview only works on Google Chrome version 12 and up. A main problem I noticed is that in some sections of the page the print preview and printing does not display the parts of the page and it just displays and prints the page or pages in black (in just some sections of the page but sometimes it affects the whole page or pages).
|Re: Where is print preview???||QQFarmer||6/30/11 6:29 PM|
Print Preview on the latest Chrome 13 beta seems to work better.
|Re: Where is print preview???||williamthrilliam||6/30/11 6:30 PM|
Try out Chrome Canary, its on 14 and is pretty decent. But again, it doesn't do anything other than show you a pretty preview.
|Re: Where is print preview???||WRXChris||7/6/11 12:08 PM|
Come on Google, how dare you skimp us on such basic features like print preview for so long? I used to put up with Chrome's lacking feature set because it was the fastest browser, but now that your competitors have surpassed you in terms of speed, it wouldn't make much sense to continue using your dated, behind-the-curve software, now would it?
|Re: Where is print preview???||Toni (Googler)||7/13/11 9:44 PM|
Print preview is still a work in progress, which is why it's not on the Stable channel yet and still has kinks/issues that we're working out. We're aiming for the first version of it to be on Chrome 13 Stable on Windows/Linux, and Mac is on the way. Since it's the first version, it's going to cover the basic settings first, and then we'll continue building on for additional settings, etc.
As mentioned, you can star the issue below to follow progress on the feature:
|Re: Where is print preview???||flowerdazzle||7/15/11 2:19 PM|
I just realized this was a Google problem.. I thought it was just my new printer, but after calling HP- clearly it's not. Please fix this issue I don't want to have to use Internet Explorer as my browser or switch back and forth.. Please work harder to implement this feature. Thanks.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Printer Driver||7/22/11 7:14 PM|
A temporary solution is to print to a vitual PDF printer like doPDF to have a print preview: http://www.dopdf.com
|Re: Where is print preview???||Toni (Googler)||8/3/11 4:40 PM|
I'm happy to announce that Chrome 13 Stable has arrived this week, and with it comes Print Preview!
If you're not on Chrome 13 yet, you will be automatically updated soon. You can also trigger this update by going to Wrench -> About Google Chrome.
As mentioned, this first iteration of print preview includes basic settings. We'll continue building on it to provide additional settings and enhancements. If you have any feedback on it so far, please let us know in the thread in my references below.
Thanks for your patience while we worked on getting this out!
|Re: Where is print preview???||WinstonSew||8/9/11 3:08 AM|
I'd like to report a problem.
Chrome Version: Latest.
OS System: Windows XP
Printer: Epson LQ 2180 (Dot Matrix)
- I'm displaying PDF documents in an iFrame within a Webpage.
- This problem is related to the 'new' PDF Viewer print preview function. All was good in an earlier version.
Problem: Printing. After changing the orientation via the 'ADVANCE' link, the printer prints the entire webpage instead of the PDF document.
Additional information: Printer is OK if you don't go to the 'ADVANCE' link. It prints the PDF document (but in the wrong orientation). So if you try to print again and go to the 'ADVANCE' link, it pulls up the printer settings. You select the proper orientation and print. However, instead of printing the PDF document, it prints your Webpage.
|Re: Where is print preview???||K-S-2||8/9/11 1:33 PM|
Print preview - A very convincing argument to go back to Microsoft Explorer. Well done!
|Re: Where is print preview???||OldAmos||8/10/11 1:23 AM|
@K-S-2 Noooooo, not MS Explorer, the worst browser there is, try Firefox (or Opera for a good standards compliant browser).
|Re: Where is print preview???||Tom Angus||8/11/11 1:52 AM|
This printer function does not work, it does not remember my preferences and I have to select it everytime. Fix this or have an option to remove it as I don't want to use someone else.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Vanima81||8/11/11 6:56 AM|
This new print preview and it's settings are just too anoying. I use chrome on my work PC and the new print preview means that I don't get my emails printed correctly, and that the images within my emails are often cut off and not usable.
I understand this is a work in progress, but maybe it should be a setting we can turn on or off, because printing before was way better than printing is now.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Toni (Googler)||8/11/11 5:13 PM|
@Vanima81 - Thanks for your feedback. When you say emails don't print correctly, can you tell us what email programs this is happening with so that we can address this issue?
Aside from issues such as these, can you tell us what about the feature itself you find annoying?
|Re: Where is print preview???||TexasMike||8/22/11 8:46 AM|
Print and Print Preview are two different functions. Tying them together is annoying. I liked the way printing worked before. Would I like to be able to preview? Sure. Sometimes. Forcing users to go through print preview in order to print is onerous. Add to that the fact that the preview screen looks like a college student's proof of concept and you have a very unflattering and un-google-like addition to the Chrome browser.
In the fickle end user market, these are exactly the kind of annoyances that will prompt users to move off of Chrome.
|Re: Where is print preview???||j.hubar||9/2/11 6:02 AM|
Bye Bye Chrome - Missing Header/Footer keys for me is the end. Nice try at creating a better browser but you've failed.
|Re: Where is print preview???||freshp||9/10/11 4:46 PM|
Try Chrome Canary and you will find headers and footers. It is coming.
|Re: Where is print preview???||lilpete||9/12/11 9:06 AM|
Print Preview now exists in V13.. I can now remove blank pages from my prints.
Still waiting on the finer details like margins, headers and footers etc, but it is there (at last) Thank You!
If you dont want to use the Print Preview you can click 'Advanced..' and it will just give the printer dialogue box as before.
I have had no glitches in using the print preview, although I agree it is a bit of a 'bolt-on' feature as opposed to the usual sleak flowing user-friendliness of Google software.
|Re: Where is print preview???||Pugsleysr||9/18/11 10:17 AM|
Print Preview is great, but there are times it does not work, but have been able to get around this. However it appears there is not a way to adjust basic settings, ie: always comes up to print in Black & White, would like to adjust the default to Color.
|Re: Where is print preview???||mark49607||11/19/11 3:38 AM|
How do I turn off "Print Preview"?
"Print Preview" doesn't work for me in many cases.
1. When I try to print using the "Print Page" or similar button
on some pages I the "Print" tab for chrom://print is mostly grayed
out and where the page should be is the message:
"Print is unavailable because the page you were tying to print has been closed."
The "Print using system dialog,,," is also grayed out.
2. many cases the page is displayed in black and white (possibly because my
default printer is B&W.) However, when I change the "Destination" to a
color printer the page remains B&W. The page remains B&W when I
use the "Print using system dialog..." method.
