We’ve just launched a new, easy-to-use interface to help you manage multiple business locations. There’s an announcement with more details on the Small Business Blog, including tutorial videos that walk you through it step by step:
Leave your feedback below, including questions, comments and any technical issues you run into. Please let’s keep this thread on-topic, focusing just on feedback about the new tool.

Is this where we should be doing all editing on listings we manage, or is it for bulk upload only?
Also, will there be a link off of our Places page to this new UI?
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||5/8/12 5:47 PM|
@Jax Bulk uploads only, and if you do manage bulk listings, you’ll be routed to the new interface whenever you click to upload or edit a data file via the Places dashboard.

Well, if its this upgrade that has caused all of the problems over the last month or so, then it is worth it.
It looks easy to use and hopefully now there will be no more 'we dont support.....' - as the correct addresses and details will all be kept up to date by business owners.
This upgrade came just in time to stop me moving all of my venues over to Yelp and Bing. Well done Google.

With this tool, is there a way to prevent the individual franchisees from "claiming" their listing and removing themselves from the "parent" corporation bulk collective? We need to lock things down for compliance. It's hard when you have 500+ locations to get full administrative compliance, so we need something more enforceable. Awesome job!

Hi Vanessa. Just tried the 'add a location' button on the new system and it seems to be greyed out or not working. Any advise please?
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||5/9/12 8:38 AM|
@Rodka - Are you managing 10+ business locations that you've gotten manually verified by our team? If not, that's why you're not able to add a new location. This interface is only for verified users managing multiple locations for the same business. You can read more about bulk uploads here:
1) Is there a way to prevent the individual franchisees from "claiming" their listing...? Nope, that's something you'll still need to coordinate with the franchisee/s.
2) Analytics? No, analytics aren’t currently supported in the new dashboard. You should be able to visit the old dashboard to see individual stats for a listing.
3) How does respond publicly as the owner work for ratings? Should work same way, log in, go to the live listing and respond to the review.

Aaaah. Thanks Vanessa. I'm a newby to the techie stuff and feel out of my depth with you guys. Will check out what youve mentioned. Fingers crossed and Thanks again.

Is it possible to download our current, filled spreadsheet to use as a starting point for updates, which are then uploaded back to the system?
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||Jessie H||5/9/12 10:30 AM|
Hey Scott, I had the same question!
I got around the issue by logging into my account @ Google.com/places, not https://places.google.com/manage/. Hope this helps!
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||Scott Clark||5/9/12 11:20 AM|
You're right... It looks like the only place to get the current file is the old places interface. Thanks!
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||Jaykill33||5/10/12 6:43 PM|
I originally had about 57 locations and bulk uploaded 15 yesterday. When I go into the new bulk listing area I am able to see all locations and edit those locations. I find this much easier to do than do it all individually. Is this ok to do?
Also is there someway to change the other 57 listings to be treated like bulk listings, as in, when I download the bulk listing file, they are all included, not just the 15 new one's I added.
I have around 450 other locations in Australia to add and potentially a couple of hundred more in the USA and Asia so want to make sure I get this right the first time.
Thanks for the changes too, I love the new bulk upload verification by email process. It is an absolute game changer!
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||5/10/12 9:44 PM|
@Jay - Are all these locations for the same business? If so — which is what the tool's intended for — you should put all the businesses in one spreadsheet and submit that for verification. (Or it sounds like your 15-location data file got manually approved?)
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||Jaykill33||5/10/12 9:52 PM|
Hi @Vanessa. Yes they are all for the same business. I have had a play around since and it seems that if I make minor changes in the bulk upload area for previously veified businesses then it works fine. I will submit the businesses in small amounts at a time as I need Managers from those businesses to verify the contact details as I am improving the accuracy (ie they give me an incomplete street address as they do not understand the importance of NAP and then I provide changes and they approve) before I upload them.
The last bulk upload was approved via email and the extra 20 I just put through got verified on the spot. So seems I have been verified bia email and everything is working incredibly well. 470 to go. This may take a while ;) But thank you for much for making these changes. Hopefully I am bringing this business into the 21st century.

Perfect -- yeah it sounds like you've been manually verified by our teams already. So any new businesses you add via that interface get verified automatically.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||royalnehal||5/15/12 5:01 AM|
it might be very bad question but it's high time to ask please, can I add only single location using this tool? AS i have business listing live for Wirral Uk, but I am looking to start by business in Liverpool UK as well.
However, I have physical address available there in Liverpool, so can I manually verify only single address or I need to create another business listing for Liverpool
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||treebles||5/15/12 5:17 AM|
no, you should still use your Places dashboard to add a single location that is not part of a 10 or more location business.
Single location businesses need to be verified as usual.
If you have a single owner-verified listing in Wirral and you are opening a single location in Liverpool, then you need to add it through the Dashboard and go through the usual verification process. Although it might be possible to add the location through the new tool the new business location will never make it to the Local listing until it gets verified through the Dashboard.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||royalnehal||5/15/12 6:00 AM|
Thanks very much for your help.
So, Should I create another Google places account for Liverpool listing or I can use the same dashboard that I currently using for Wirral listing.
Please suggest for the best .
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||treebles||5/15/12 6:42 AM|
You could use the same Places account for both locations for your business.
Keep in mind that there is no way to transfer ownership of the account, so if you plan to delegate responsibility for the management of the Places listing to other people in the future you should be using a Google account that you do not mind sharing the login credentials with other people.

I am having problems editing the Additional Details for the bulk upload. The title is not recognized. Is there any way around it? It will only accept the updates when the column is removed.
This option is not available in Edit Data File and do not want to Edit Listings individually.
Otherwise, the new dashboard has made things a lot easier.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||Caleb Ross||5/23/12 9:45 AM|
First, thanks for all you do!
Per your video posted on May 15th (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6ED6fH-nB0), you state that the bulk image URL upload feature is working. However, for all of my accounts (I manage many accounts for many different national businesses) the images still are not showing up, even when I re-upload the file with images or when I select all of the locations and bulk edit the data file with the image URLs. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the video!
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||5/23/12 10:01 AM|
@RIG - We no longer show Additional Details on Maps listings, so I wouldn't bother with it.
@Caleb - You're very welcome! To answer your question, it can take up to a week -- sometimes two weeks I've seen -- for images to appear on listings. They don't appear live instantly, so I'd upload them and sit tight.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||Caleb Ross||5/23/12 1:36 PM|
Is it possible to have a specific issue looked at? I re-uploaded the image URLs for one client in particular on May 16th (just after I watched your video) and the images are still not showing (the Places Pages show that "no smoking camera image" thing.
BTW, for curiosity's sake, is there an actual name for the "no smoking camera image" thing? If not, I think we should forever refer to it as The Forbidden Camera.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||5/23/12 2:20 PM|
@Caleb - Like I said, it can take a couple weeks before a photo might show -- sounds like you've waited a week so far. Give it more time.
No official name for it! Forbidden Camera sounds about right ;)
Sorry it's taking so long, thanks for sitting tight,

Noted. Thanks Vanessa.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||LukeHan||5/29/12 11:51 PM|
This system looks interesting. We have about 30 locations in the California Area. We've been requesting manual (PIN) verification for all of them. Half of our listings have already been approved an active .. After about a week, all of our verified listings were taken down. Is this something that I should have done via the Bulk upload process? Would the results be any better?
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||5/30/12 5:06 AM|
Are the locations for the same business? Yes, you should get verified for a bulk upload, that'll keep your account more consistent.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||Lock and Tech USA||6/1/12 9:28 AM|
Hey Vanessa, We applied for a bulk verification 2 weeks ago. Can you estimate how long it takes to get verified ? All of our listing have images and videos of our storefronts and store owners. Thanks !
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||6/1/12 10:42 AM|
The team's backed up with requests right now, I'd give it a few more days.
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||MaryBowling||6/1/12 2:42 PM|
Hi Vanessa, Yesterday I tried to create a new bulk upload for a univeristy whose locations had been claimed and verified in various accounts over the years. All I could get was a error message saying I didn't have any locations, which is true. I don't. But how can I get them without being able to get the spreadsheet to upload? Thanks
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||vanessagene||6/2/12 2:39 PM|
@Mary Can you provide some screenshots? When during the process are you seeing an error message?
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||ARKtech||6/4/12 9:16 AM|
Thanks for the link Vanessa, this brings up another question.
Early on, we had our business account on G+ (in beta) but our profile was removed. (We've used it for the biz for years.) So, now I have another G+ account but each business operation is tied to a different gmail account or app for management. What is the best practice to move these places under the one account so that when things merge they will integrate with the G+ business pages?
|Re: Launched: A new management tool for bulk listings||TaxAssist||6/8/12 11:00 AM|
I manage over 200 Place pages spread over three Google accounts. With regards to the bulk uploads, is this for first time uploads only?
