Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) nathanziarek 12/15/09 7:28 PM I'm tracking my full allotment of custom variables, and using spaces and pipes( the | character, whatever it is called) to separate data within each variable. I've also named my variables with spaces (nothing ever said not too!). The end result is I
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) nathanziarek 12/20/09 10:16 AM Interestingly, of the 20,000 or visits that have included a page-level custom variable of "Site Area", 7 of them are labeled "Site Area" and the rest "Site%20Area". Nothing has changed on my end. These 7 visits all came from IE6, which is typically 2
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) nathanziarek 12/22/09 7:30 AM I'll bump this up one last time on the off chance some Google employees are slacking off before the holidays by browsing their help forums (OK, very off chance). Would love some acknowledgement of the "issue" (and whether or not Google sees it as a p
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) nathanziarek 12/23/09 8:50 AM Just to close out this question ... I talked to a rep at Google who said they knew of the issue and were working to resolve it. In the meantime, they offered the advice to use a filter to replace the errant characters. As of this writing, custom vari
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) D-M-C 12/29/09 1:22 PM Thanks for following up nz. I just started using Custom Variables and I am seeing the same %20 problems. Adding my name to the queue. - V

Is anyone else having the following issue: I can only see the Custom Variable report data when I create a custom report with the desired metrics. When I go to the Custom Varia

Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) nathanziarek 3/6/10 5:48 AM It being March now, I'll give it another bump. I can understand that the filters section might be difficult, but the URL encoding seems like a simple issue. If it isn't being touched simply because it isn't seen as important, hopefully this thread ca

Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) Matti.Järvinen 3/16/10 8:36 AM Try campaign named Äitienpäivä (mothers day) not so farfetched right? Most of google devs dwelling in US so US-ASCII must be enough for rest of the world, right? :p
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) mikefris 3/22/10 9:00 PM Does google ever reply to these popular threads?
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) Dmitry_Russia 3/31/10 7:29 AM Have same issue. We trying to send characters in Russian through CustomVars, but reports are url-encoded. It's April... Hey! Google?!
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) nathanziarek 4/1/10 8:20 PM I attended a recent webinar on GA and Custom Variables, and they are stating that the best practice is to use under_scores instead of spaces. I can't imagine that is the solution, given the global nature of Google as a company and the international l
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) macateem 4/22/10 7:13 AM Underscore is fine as a replacement for spaces, but what about all the other characters?  In my case, I am setting custom variables containing "@" which is being rewritten as "%40".  Any ideas? I'm also having the problem of not seeing the data unde
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) mikefris 4/22/10 12:22 PM i would like to see some movement on this from google. Analytics has so much else that is nice. Is this really that hard to fix?
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) solo.polvo 5/13/10 11:45 PM Hello Google, are you there? The people are speaking. Is the %20 problem a problem or not?
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) Jan Tichý 5/14/10 6:37 AM Hello, I have realised the same problem. Url-encoding of spaces, pipes or at-signs is very confusing error. Google, please fix it!

Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) Max Meier 5/18/10 1:49 AM I have a German website under UTF-8. German umlauts such as öäüÖÄÜ or ß will mess up the display of cusom variables (_setCustomVar...) in the Google Analytics interface too. Google, please fix!
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) ani2010 5/19/10 12:41 PM I do have the same problem when I set the custom variable with == characters. I am not able to retrieve the data as google is already encoding the custom variables with == sign. It's returning null if I send the variable without encoding.
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) primerano 6/16/10 2:13 PM no word from google on this one eh?    I'm fine with naming my variables with underscores but the values need to be flexible. Google url-encodes the data when building the utm.gif as the custom variables are in the URL (utme) but it should decode th
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) sturgeon_dps 6/18/10 11:21 AM It would appear as though Urchin used to have a "Decode URL" filter: http://www.google.com/support/urchin45/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=28472 I wonder why Google dropped it ... as it appears that would solve our collective issue. - S
Re: Custom%20Variables (and URL encoding) elizabeth.cassell 6/25/10 12:53 PM Same problem here. I'm using several search and replace filters to replace eg %26 with & and %40 with @, but the search and replace filter will not let me specify a space character in the replace field, so I have to replace %20 with _
